Chapter 171
Chapter 171
Helen
I woke up the next morning feeling just as shitty as the day before. What did I expect that when I wake up all my problems will suddenly be gone. I can only wish for that. Johnny wasn’t in bed anymore but I heard in in the bathroom. I got up but as I walked to the bathroom my stomach was rumbling from hunger. I can wait another few minutes before I eat something. Johnny was stepping into the shower as I walked in. “Morning babe.” “Morning Johnny.” “How are you feeling this morning?” “Like shit.” “Go get something to eat we neat to talk when I get out.” “But I’m going to be late for court.” “Babe please just this once listen to me and go to the kitchen and get something to eat.” I was too hungry to argue with him so I just said. “Okay.” And walked to the kitchen. Andreas was in the kitchen busy with preparations for dinner when he asked. “Mam, can I make you something?” “No Andreas I’m good.” I took out the lasagna Johnny brought home and took a bite of that. It was like heaven on earth. I saw Andreas looking at me funny but this was what I was in the mood for and I won’t take any judgement, so I took my lasagna and coffee and went to sit at the dinning room table, a table we don’t use very often.
After a while Johnny came looking for me. “What are you doing in here?” He asked. “Andreas was looking at me like I was crazy to eat lasagna for breakfast so I decided to sit in here.” Johnny just smiled “I’m sure he didn’t mean anything by it.” “I wouldn’t know.” I said a bit sarcastically. Johnny didn’t go on with that conversation he rather went with another one another I didn’t like much. “Babe, I don’t think you should go to court today.” I was quiet for a second before I asked “And why not, I’ve been in court since the trial started why wouldn’t I go today?” “Because your sister will be on the stand today….” I interrupted him “You mean my half-sister.” “Yes, your half sister will be on the stand today and we don’t know what she’s going to say.” “I didn’t know what my mother was going to say either but I went to hers.” “Helen stop being difficult I’m trying to make things better for you and going to your sister day of testifying is not a good idea, she’s going to drag you through the mud and I don’t want you to listen to the crap she’s going to say.” “I know she’s going to blame me for everything Johnny that is normal Antoinette’s behavior you don’t have to shield me against that, I mean my father never did and I’m his own blood.” “Babe please.” Johnny begged me. “No Johnny, I’m going this will be the last time I listen to her crap and the last time I’m going to see her, so I’m going.” “Please Helen, it’s not good for you.” “Come with me, I promise you this will be the last day I go, after today I’m done with my mother and my sister I promise you that.” “Okay but if its get’s bad we are leaving, promise me that.” “Yes, fine I promise.” “Okay then.”
Johnny
I wished I could have convinced Helen not to come today because it was exactly like Geoff said, Antoinette blamed everything on Helen, telling the court she was always her fathers favorite and she got things Antoinette never got. She also told the jury she thinks Helen killed her husband which was “absurd” off course but she said it. When we took a break Helen finally decided it was time to go home, she had enough. Thank God because I couldn’t sit there and listen to the bull shit Antoinette was speaking anymore. “You want to go home?” I asked her. “Can we go and walk in a park somewhere?” “Yes, off course.” We ended up at Millennium Park and started to walk, Helen didn’t say a word she just looked at everything around her and took deep breaths. I didn’t want to ruin her moment of finding peace so I kept quiet and walked with her. After about 30 minutes she said. “I’m done with them Johnny this time forever.” “You talking about your mom and your sister?” “Half-sister and yes I’m talking about them.” “I’m happy to hear that, what made you come to that conclusion?” “I’m just done with people that don’t bring me happiness anymore. I want to live my life in peace and be happy with you. Those who don’t fit into that, I’m done with.” “What about your dad?” “No, he made a mistake with not telling me but I still love me and still wants the best for me so I’m good with him.” I pulled her towards me and hugged her. “I’m right there with you babe.” “Good, now we can go home.” “Just like that?” I asked her. “Yes, just like that I started to make peace with the idea from last night and now I’m at peace I can live my life now.” I picked her up and turned her in a circle making her laugh as we twirled. When I finally put her down, I looked her in the eyes and told her “I’m so proud of you. You are the strongest person I’ve ever met.” “I’m not but thank you for saying that.” “Oh no babe you are.”
