Bitter Revelation

Bitter Revelation
CHAPTER 60
OLIVIA;

“What?” Wendy’s high-pitched voice resounded through the office. Her eyes went wide in disbelief—it felt like the ground shook under the force of her shriek.

My heart was pounding hard and fast, and for a split second, my vision blurred. My ears rang, like someone had placed a fog inside them.

I shook my head to clear the buzz, just as the door to the office opened.

Marcus.

He stood there, and right behind him was Kimberly. They didn’t even knock. The moment his eyes met mine, he froze. His face turned pale instantly—like he already knew what I’d just done.

“Get in here, Marcus,” Mr. Kingston’s gravelly voice filled the air. From the corner of my eye, I saw Kimberly trying to quietly step back toward the hallway.

“Both of you,” he added sharply.

Kimberly froze mid-step. She hesitated for a moment before forcing herself inside. She cast me a filthy look, her lips pressed into a thin line.

I rolled my eyes. Fucking hypocrites. They were all talk earlier, acting untouchable. Now they looked like they were about to shit their pants.

They definitely weren’t expecting this.

Wendy’s gaze bounced between them, speechless. Her mouth parted but no sound came out. It looked like she was searching their faces for any sign that what I said wasn’t true. Marcus wasn't even looking at her direction. Her daughter, Kimberly, was blinking too fast while trying to keep a composed expression. I could smell the guilt from where I stood.

I could feel Marcus’s burning stare at the side of my head, but I ignored him. There was no saving this. I'm putting myself first.

“That… that can’t be true, right?” Wendy stammered, her voice trembling. “Kimberly?”

Mr. Kingston slowly reached for his glasses on the desk. After sliding them on, he stood, his movements calm but deliberate. When he turned his gaze to Marcus, the air shifted—heavy and thick.

He pointed to the space in front of him. “Come here.”

Marcus exhaled sharply. His fists clenched at his sides, his shoulders stiff. He threw me a venomous glance before stepping forward to stand beside me.

He was angry. But beneath that anger, I saw something else—something I didn't think I'd seen before. Fear.

“Repeat what you just said, Olivia,” Mr. Kingston said, his tone measured. “I didn’t quite catch it earlier.”

“Dad—” Marcus started quickly, his voice rising. “You don’t have to listen to—”

“I believe the question wasn’t directed to you, Marcus,” his father cut in smoothly, not raising his voice once. “Or was it?”

Marcus’s mouth snapped shut instantly. His father turned back to me, eyes sharp and unreadable.

I swallowed hard. My throat felt dry. For a split second, I wished I didn’t have to do this—to be the bearer of this information—but there was no other way. I wasn’t going to carry their shame anymore.

I swallowed a huge lump and then turned to face Marcus. His eyes carried a silent warning, a...threat? But I wasn't scared of him.

I maintained eye contact with him as I responded to his father, "Marcus and Kimberly have been having an affair."

The silence that followed was deafening.

You could almost hear the clock ticking on the wall, the air conditioning humming faintly in the background. Wendy’s hand went to her mouth, horrified eyes darting between them.

Kimberly’s face turned as white as a ghost. Her lip quivered, and she looked down at the floor. Marcus’s jaw flexed hard, his nostrils flaring.

Then—

“AND YOU’VE BEEN SLEEPING WITH MY BROTHER, YOU FUCKING—”

Whack!

Marcus’s head snapped to the side. He stumbled back, his shoulder slamming into the table behind him.

I froze, stunned.

The backhanded slap came from his father, who I hadn’t even realized had moved from behind the desk.

Marcus blinked, disoriented, his cheek already red and swelling. His lips parted in disbelief as he looked up at his father.

For a moment, no one dared to speak.

Kimberly gasped softly, her hand flying to her mouth. Wendy had tears welling in her eyes, her whole body trembling. She looked at her daughter and Marcus like she didn’t recognize them anymore....

I knew just how much Marcus regarded his father. I knew just how much he'd tried to make sure he did everything good in his father's eyes. How he tried to not disappoint him, especially business wise though.

But I was past caring about that at this point. I just need to get over this and get married to the man i truly love. Hopefully, this would maybe make him less upset with me. I just needed this to be done with and be with him. Nothing less.

And I wish he was here to see this.

"Dad..." Marcus choked out, cutting through the loud tension in the office.

"She's not wrong, is she?" Mr Kingston asked Marcus, his authoritative tone filled with disappointment.

I don't think I had ever seen Marcus look this vulnerable as he did now in front of his father. He had his jaw clenched tightly but I could see his hands trembling at his sides.

It's ironic, that he didn't ever consider he would ever get outed for his shameful acts.

"I'm...sorry, Dad." Marcus said.

"YOU ARE SORRY FOR COMMITTING SUCH ABOMINABLE ACT, OR YOU'RE SORRY BECAUSE IT WAS EXPOSED?"

"I..."

"Um..." Kimberly interrupted, "I'm sorry that you had to find out this way Mr Kingston, Mom. But...to be very honest, I do not see anything wrong with what we did. It's not like we're... real siblings. I love Marcus and I don't think this should be an issue for us. He could still get married to her, I don't mind...."

The horrified gasps followed immediately. I could hardly believe her audacity.

Marcus had his eyes wide as he stared at her in disbelief, and in a 'are you crazy' manner.

"Kim...Kimberly?" Wendy whispered brokenly, as she stared at her daughter, who, at the moment, didn't have an iota of remorse on her face.

"We'll take it from here, Olivia," Mr Kingston said as he gave me a reassured look. "Continue with your wedding preparations. We don't have much time left."

I nodded. "Thank you."

And without another glance back, I turned and walked out of the room.

A huge sigh of relief escaped my lungs as I exhaled. It felt like I just had a huge weight lifted off me as I leaned on the wall beside the door.

Damon's face flashed in my head and I stood upright, needing to see him immediately, to talk to him. I brought out my cellphone and suddenly realized I didn't even have his cellphone number.

FUCK!!
