Chapter 21: The Abode of Blood

Chapter 21: The Abode of Blood
I packed my valuables into two suitcases, one carry-on and one with wheels, and filled them with my best summer clothes. I also grabbed my college backpack and filled it with everything important, my documents, some cash, lipstick, blush, nail polish, and other good-brand cosmetics.

I was a vampire, but forever a preppy girl! If I'm going to live in darkness, then I might as well be the most beautiful.

But as soon as we arrived at Blake's house, sadness set in. My heart sank when Blake showed me one of the largest guest rooms in the house. Everything was beautiful. It was a mansion! But... there were no windows. Unlike stupid Ashley, the white vampire covered all of them, which clearly made him feel safer. He didn't have to worry about someone accidentally opening a curtain.

But I had a certain claustrophobia. And that room seemed to suffocate me. I don't know, it seemed like when the door closed, I would die from inhalation. As if all the air would disappear with the first deep breath.

“Didn't you like your room?” Blake asked, noticing my strange expression.

“The room is great! It's almost the size of my house. I'm just not used to... you know... completely closed rooms. It'll take me a while to get used to it.”

“If you want, you can sleep in my bed with me…”

What’s up, Blake?! Just because you kissed me with blood on your face, why don’t you take me to bed to take a nap with me? Let’s take it easy, I snore and fart. I didn’t want to ruin our friendship.

“No! That’s not what you’re thinking! I mean sleeping together…you know…as friends!”

“Blake! Let’s take it easy! I just want to sleep here to survive in this new condition of mine. OK?”

“Okay. I’m sorry. I…you know…I’m worried about you. I put you in this dark situation. Now I feel responsible. Make yourself at home. I’ll give orders to the employees and my colleagues, if you need anything during the day, you can ask one of them to take care of it. And if any of them mistreats you, talk to me, and I’ll fix it.”

“Thanks Blake, you’re a sweetheart!… I mean great man… I mean hot…”

Holy shit. What the hell was going on in my head saying that shit?

Lucky for me, Blake didn't take it seriously. He just smiled awkwardly and left. God! Was I liking Blake? Having a man... or rather a vampire, like him protecting me made me want him. Damn it! Ashley was right, I stole her love... but he's asexual. So no chance for me.

He left the room. And I was alone. I looked at the walls of that claustrophobic room. At my bags. I burst into tears. I lay down on the bed and fell asleep.

I spent the whole day sleeping, my body wanted it. I only woke up to the roar of motorcycle engines.

The sun was setting on the horizon and Blake and his friends were starting their motorcycles and doing tricks with them... in the back of the Mansion where Blake had a huge Motocross track.

I got up and took a shower. Then I went downstairs and went to the kitchen. I was hungry, inviting me to eat, but it wasn't food...

The strange people around the kitchen table saw me arrive and remained in an absurd silence. Everyone already knew that Blake was getting me... so they were afraid of me.

“Where’s Blake?”

“Outside training on his bike.” A dark girl replied, “That’s goth!”

“I was wondering if there’s anything to eat here…”

The goth woman, named Milena, smiled kindly and walked over to the double-doored refrigerator, which looked more like a safe, and opened it to reveal a large bowl of ice cream.

“Vanilla ice cream, filled with blood! Blake said you’d like it. He threatened to cut off the hand of anyone who touched his ice cream.”

Wow! I love vanilla. Filled with blood? No! But I was already getting used to the horrific, that is... I was no longer human.

I eagerly took out my jar. I grabbed a spoon and dug deep, as much as I loved vanilla, it was the red part that covered it that I felt the urge to taste.

Ah! The taste of blood. It brought vital energy to my entire body. And since it was my own human blood, it gave it a tastier pink flavor...

As I devoured the jar, I noticed that everyone in the kitchen was looking at me. I felt ashamed. I was starving and forgot my manners.

“Do you want some?”

“No, you can go ahead, it’s all for yourself!” Milena, the goth, said.

After I got my fill of ice cream, I didn’t eat it all, just half. I left the mansion. Blake’s backyard was unique. Full of lights, a rough dirt track, with mounds of dirt, where the motorcycles jumped and took flight. Each one did their own stunts. The white biker did deadly pirouettes, sometimes giving the impression that he was defying gravity for pure fun.

When he saw me, he left the flow of motorcycles and came towards me, like a white knight, took off his helmet and said to me:

“How are you?”

“I’m fine, Blake!”

“Do you want to ride a motorcycle?”

“No! Last time was enough of a trauma.”

Blake laughed awkwardly.

“I see you liked the ice cream.”

He pointed his finger to the corner of his mouth. I noticed that mine was dirty. I felt ashamed.

“Sorry, I was just too hungry.”

“It’s the blood! It does that. All the transformed people I’ve met feel euphoric for the first few days, then they calm down.”

I nodded. Milena appeared behind the door and said: “Blake! There’s a visitor coming to see you.”

He nodded, not caring who it was. Then he turned to me.

“So you’re going to stay at the mansion?”

“Sleeping in a room without windows is disturbing for me, it feels like I’m suffocating. But I can handle it. I just want to make it clear that I intend to live here forever, I just want to stay for a few days, and then I’ll find another place for myself.”

“I’d like you here so much…”

“Why?”

“Because I like you…”

I looked at him, he looked at me, we kept looking at each other, there was a vibe between us. But that moment was broken by a scream, which unfortunately I recognized!

“Blaaaakeeee! My love!” Ashley had arrived at the Mansion, and since she was facing away, she didn’t realize who I was, thinking I was just another one of his goth friends, but when I turned around and she saw me… All the joy of her extroverted presence disappeared immediately. She looked me up and down with great disgust.

“What is that creature doing here?”

Blake replied:

“She’s living here with us.”

The look of astonishment on her face was even worse.
