Chapter 68 Chapter Sixty-Eight
Chapter 68 Chapter Sixty-Eight
Leilani looks a little sad, but she nods her head. "It's probably nothing." She whispers as we walk up the steps leading to Samina's front door.
I kiss the top of her head. "You are probably right Angel, let's see what Samina found." I say, giving her a reassuring smile as I knock on Samina's door.
Samina opens the door, and smiles at us. "Good morning Malakai." She says, giving me her usual sweet smile.
"Good morning Samina." I say, returning the smile.
Samina turns to Leilani, giving her a smile just as big and bright "And good morning to you, Alpha Leilani. Thank you guys for coming over here."
Leilani smiles. "Good morning Samina. Thank you so much for inviting us, we are excited to see what you found."
Samina takes a step backward, holding the door open wide. "Come on in here. Would you guys like something to drink?" Samina asks as she leads us to the kitchen.
"I'm fine for now, thank you for asking though." Leilani says.
Samina turns to me and I smile. "I'm fine too. Thank you."
Samina motions to the table. "Have a seat, we can get started." She says, as she grabs a stack of journals. "Before we get started I just want to say I don't know how much of this is fact and how much is legend. From what I read, this is just information passed from family member to family member. It could be helpful though." Samina says, obviously trying not to get Leilani's hopes up.
I nod my head, smiling gratefully. "Any information is helpful."
Leilani nods and opens the journal Samina set in front of her, turning to a bookmarked page. Leilani reads over the page, eyes going wide. "Does this mean what I think it means?" Leilani asks, sounding shocked.
"What is it baby?" I ask, looking at the page.
She points to a line in the journal. Super healers steal energy from other wolves, allowing the super healer to seem indestructible. "Is that what I am?" She asks, sounding worried. "Am I a super healer? Do I steal my energy from other wolves? Is that why everyone was avoiding me?" She starts rambling and I put my hand on her arm to try and calm her.
"I don't think you steal anyone's energy, when me and you were fighting you healed instantly and I still healed normally baby." I say, trying to reassure her.
Samina clears her throat. "Alpha Leilani did you say everyone was avoiding you?" She asks, sounding like she already knows why.
Leilani nods her head. "Not everyone, but on our walk over here it felt like the majority of the pack members we passed were avoiding me." She says, sounding sad. "Did I do something to hurt them or scare them?"
Samina sighs. "Micklin isn't healing as quickly as he should be."
"What do you mean?" I ask. "He should have already been healed."
Samina shakes her head. "You are right, he should be healed already, but it seems the process is taking much longer. He still has cuts and bruises, a couple of broken bones. Micklin is in quite a bit of pain and the healing process is slow."
Leilani gasps, eyes welling with tears. "Oh my God, it's my fault. I did that to him. I had no idea he wouldn't be able to heal or I never would have fought him." She says, as the first tear streams down her face. "No wonder why our pack members are terrified of me. I probably would be too."
I wrap my arm around her shoulder, pulling her close to me. "It's not your fault Angel, you didn't know. I'm sure Micklin is going to be okay, it will just take a little longer."
Samina gives her a reassuring smile. "Legacy Wolves are very powerful dear. From what I have read about the stories and facts my mom had in these journals, their powers can be very dangerous. Only if they are not used properly though."
Leilani wipes away a tear streaming down her face. "Is there anything I can do to help Micklin heal?" She asks, sniffling a little.
Samina nods her head. "Most of the wolves in these stories found ways to use their powers for good. There are stories Legacy Wolves healing other wolves and creatures. Some were able to see the near future, protecting their packs from danger. Other wolves were able to put a protective barrier around their pack lands. Your powers haven't fully developed yet Leilani. We won't know what you are fully capable of until your powers finish developing."
"Let's read some more of the stories Angel, maybe we can find something in there about healing other wolves. That way you can try to help Micklin." I say, trying to look on the bright side.
It's hard watching Leilani go through this without knowing how to help her. I wish I knew more. I wish there was a way I could help her develop her powers. I know she is scared, and it hurts me to think the only thing I can do is stand by her side while she goes through these changes.
"Okay." Leilani whispers, flipping to another page in the journal.
We stay at Samina's house for several hours combing through all the journals looking for anything and everything that would help us with Leilani's situation. Although we didn't find anything that would help her heal Micklin, we did find lots of other useful information.
"Thank you for sharing all of this with us." I say to Samina when we are finally done.
Samina smiles. "Of course, I wish I was more help."
Leilani shakes her head. "You were very helpful, thank you." She says, smiling at Samina.
With that me and Leilani make our way back across town. "I think I need to at least apologize to Micklin." Leilani whispers after a long bit of silence.
"That sounds like a great idea baby." I say, pulling her into my side, as we walk.
"I also think I need to hold a pack meeting. I don't want my pack to be afraid of me. I want them to feel like they can trust me. I want them to know I will protect them." Leilani says, sounding like she already has her mind made up.
