Chapter 62 Chapter Sixty-Two

Chapter 62 Chapter Sixty-Two
I glance over at Malakai who looks just as confused as I do. Is she talking about my mom? Does Samina know about my mom being a Legacy Wolf? Mom said she kept it a secret in her letter. Who would Samina know?

"Who are you talking about?" I ask, voice shaking a little.

Samina smiles. "I'm talking about your mother, Leilani. Our Luna. One of the kindest, most beloved members of our pack."

Everyone in the room falls silent, the sound of hearts beating and people breathing is the only thing you can hear. "If you have never seen a Legacy Wolf how do you known Leilani's mother was one?" One of the council members asks.

Samina shakes her head. "I wasn't sure before, but after seeing Leilani. I know. I know what I saw." She turns her attention to me. "I was out in the woods one afternoon for a run and I came across your mother and an injured wolf. I didn't say anything and she was so lost in what she was doing, she didn't even notice me."

"What was she doing?" I ask, heart beat speeding up as my anxiety starts to take over. I want to know more. I want to know everything I can about my mom and her abilities.

Samina takes a deep breath. "At first I thought she was just comforting the injured wolf. Your mother cared so much about all living creatures, human, werewolves, wolfs it didn't matter. She would have taken care of a bird if it needed her help. I was just about to turn and leave, but I caught a glimpse of her eyes. They were glowing bright red, same as yours."

Samina pauses laughing a little. "I honestly thought I was starting to go crazy, until this day I thought I was seeing things. I know now, your mom was special and so are you Alpha Leilani." She says, putting extra emphasis on Alpha.

I honestly have more questions about my mom now, than I did before. There is only one that I truly need an answer to though. "Is that why my mother was killed? Do you think they knew what she was?" I ask, both needing and dreading the answer to my questions.

Samina frowns, and looks down at the floor. "I wish I could say no honey, but if I had to guess I would say yes."

I nod my head slowly, and I suddenly feel like I swallowed a baseball. "Thank you Samina."

Samina smiles. "Of course, Alpha Leilani."

Before I can say anything else, one of the bastards that was with Graylor earlier decides to speak. "So, just because Leilani is some strange, rare wolf that no one has ever heard of. You just expect us to what? Accept this child as our Alpha? Allow her to be in charge of the safety of our pack?"

I can see the muscle in Malakai's jaw ticking as his whole body goes rigid. "What I expect is for you to show me some respect!" I answer, even though he wasn't talking to me. "I expect you to do your part in helping me keep our pack safe. If we don't all work together to keep the pack safe, then we will end up at war with our enemies."

The older man shakes his head, chuckling like he just heard something funny. "Well, one thing is for sure. Male, female, Legacy Wolf or not, there can not be an unmated Alpha. An alpha without a mate is pretty much useless and since you won't even be able to find our maybe for another three years, you can not be our Alpha."

Samina laughs, catching everyone off guard. "Our young Alpha already has her mate, don't you Leilani?" She asks.

"That is impossible!" The older man say, shaking his head in disbelief.

Malakai walks over behind me, putting his hands on my shoulders. "This is going to hurt a little babygirl." Malakai says it through our mind link and I was going to ask what he means but then I feel it.

The hot searing pain radiating from the spot where my neck and shoulder meet. Malakai's teeth sink deep into the sensitive skin and I bite my tongue so hard I think it might bleed. I don't scream, I don't howl in pain and I don't pass out. Which is apparently the most common thing that happens when mates mark each other. The pain is so overwhelming they almost always pass out. Not me though.

Maybe it's because of my gifts, but almost as quickly as the pain appears it disappears. Malakai retracts his teeth and I feel myself healing immediately. Most marks take weeks to heal.

Everyone gasps, staring at me with wide, surprised eyes. My whole body heats up and I feel stronger than ever. I guess it's true what they say, the mate's mark and bond is the strongest bond in the world.

I grab Malakai's hand and it feels electric like everything is ten times more intense than before. I feel like I can feel his heart beating inside me. Why did we wait until now for him to mark me? With as good as I feel, I wish we had done it the second we found out we were mates.

"Does anyone else have anything stupid to say?" I ask, speaking loud enough for everyone to hear me.

When no one else says anything I look around. "Good. Now can we please finish the ceremony? Or is there anyone else with more made up excuses why I shouldn't become the Alpha?" I ask.

Samina smiles, clapping once. "Let's get you sworn in honey!"

Some of the pack members cheer, others just look pissed off. I couldn't care less. Being the alpha is my right and I will do everything in my power to make sure this pack is just as good, maybe even better than when my father was Alpha.

The rest of the ceremony feels like I'm being sworn in at court to testify. It's a lot of swearing to do this and promising to do that. The only thing missing was a bible. By the end of the ceremony I am truly exhausted and I don't even know why. I do know I'm glad it's over. Everything is official. I am officially the alpha. Alpha Leilani. That just doesn't even sound right.

My first real order as Alpha was for everyone to keep silent about what I am and about my mate until I get a chance to talk to my father myself. I don't want him to hear it from someone else. Especially since I'm still not sure how he is going to take it. I guess we will know tomorrow.
