Chapter 13 Chapter Thirteen
I shrug my shoulders. “I already know what I want.”
Malakai smiles at me. “What do you want Angel?”
I give him a quick kiss once more, this one on his lips. “I want you.” Malakai’s face reddens.
“I meant what do you want to eat?”
“I know.” I laugh. “I am going to get the triple cheeseburger with extra bacon and extra curly fries.”
Malakai’s brows furrow in confusion. “I didn’t see a triple cheeseburger on the menu.”
“It’s not on the menu, they make it special for me.” I say in a smug tone.
Malakai chuckles. “I think I’ll have one too.”
I squeal with excitement. “You are going to love it.”
Roxanne returns with our drinks, shooting us a weird glance when she sees the new seating arrangement. She doesn’t say anything though. I tell her to bring two of my usual. She smiles. We watch as she leaves the back room, closing the door behind her.
Looking around the room fills me with happiness. There are several family portraits spread throughout the room; including a picture of my father, my mother, and me just a few months before my mother’s passing. Malakai follows my gaze. “I miss her too.” He says quietly as he gently squeezes my arm.
I smile half-heartedly and grab his hand. “Thank you for bringing me here.”
“I would do anything for you angel. We will have to go home after this. We don’t want your dad to find out I took you out shopping when you’re supposed to be at home.”
Laughing I say, “Yeah I know.” Roxanne brings our burgers and I watch eagerly as Malakai takes the first bite. “What do you think? It’s amazing right?” I ask enthusiastically.
Malakai nods slowly as he finishes chewing. “It’s very good. Now eat.”
I clap excitedly and take a bite. Every time I come here the food gets better if that’s even possible. We eat in silence, except when Roxanne comes to check on us. After finishing I tell Roxanne to keep this between us and Malakai leaves her a huge tip. She thanks him several times and promises not to tell my father.
Once we’re back at the house Malakai helps me carry my bags up to my room. I thank him several times to which he simply places a soft kiss on my lips before heading downstairs to call the school. He insisted he call the principal for my assignments, even though I could have easily got them from Lucas.
Lucas is one year older than me, he was held back in the first grade. We share all the same classess. He’s really my only friend. Everyone at my school is afraid to talk to me since I am the Alpha’s daughter and future alpha of the pack, not Lucas though. I remember my first day at high school, I was nervous being younger and not knowing anyone. Lucas marched straight up to me and said, “Oh my God honey, I love your boots.” To which I laughed and thanked him. From that moment on I knew we were going to be friends; he took me under his wing and made sure everyone liked me. He’s the star football player so everyone wants to be his friend.
About two weeks after I met Lucas, he told me he had a crush on a boy named Carter, a musician in the school band. He also made me promise not to tell anyone because he isn’t out to his parents or anyone really besides me and his older brother Logan.
A few minutes later Malakai returns with a short list of assignments for me to work on. “They aren’t due until the first day back from winter break.” His tone tells me he had something to do with the extremely long amount of time to work on these assignments, but I won’t complain.
“Thank you, Malakai.” I smile sweetly as I continue hanging up my new clothes. Malakai watches me as I hang the assortment of dresses and blouses in all different colors and materials.
“When am I going to get to see you in your new clothes?” Malakai asks in a flirty tone.
“I guess you will just have to wait and see.” I wink.
Malakai groans with disappointment. “Fine.”
I laugh. It’s cute when he acts like this. “Hello, is anyone here?” My father calls from downstairs.
“Shit that’s Tiberius.” Malakai says with wide eyes. He rushes out of my room and down the stairs to greet the alpha. From my room I can hear them exchanging pleasantries. I finish hanging my new clothes as fast as I can and hide the bags in case my father comes in here.
I race down the stairs to greet my father. “I missed you dad.” I say pulling him into a tight hug.
“I missed you too mija.” My father kisses the top of my head.
Nova and Nora come out of the kitchen waiting patiently for Malakai and father to finish their conversation. “Sirs, ma’am, dinner is ready to be served.”
We head into the dining room, taking our usual seats at the table. Nora and Nova place each plate of food, starting with my father, then me, then Malakai. Tonight, we are having roast beef, with potatoes, and baby carrots. Still full from our late lunch I just pick at my plate.
The dining room is silent besides the clinking of forks against glass, until my father breaks the silence. “Leilani did you break up with the man you call your boyfriend?”
Malakai stops eating and glances at me. I flash him a quick smile as I turn to my father. “Yes father, I did what you asked. Isn’t that right Malakai?” Malakai glares at me for bringing him into this.
He clears his throat “Yes that’s right.” My father nods in approval then goes back to eating.
The rest of the dinner is mostly quiet. My father asks about my school assignments, and if I am excited for Christmas. He knows how excited I get for Christmas.
Every year on Christmas my father and I go to the children’s shelter to deliver presents. On Christmas Eve we have our annual pack Christmas party at our house, the majority of the pack members drop off a present for the shelter. Those gifts always seem so impersonal to me though, it’s just a random toy they picked up on their shopping trip. When I was about ten years old, I told my dad I wanted to buy presents for the kids there, he thought it was a good idea. Ever since then I call the shelter about two weeks before Christmas and ask for the children’s ages, sizes, and what kind of toys they like. I get each kid a toy and a brand-new winter coat. The majority of the clothes at the shelter are donations, but every kid deserves a warm winter coat. I love the look on their faces when they open their presents.
