Chapter 219 Who We Can Never Be
Chapter 219 Who We Can Never Be
Bianca's POV
The front door had barely been shut five minutes after Hilda and Julian left when I heard another round of knocking start again.
I jumped off the floor, ready to call 911 on that witch if she showed up at my doorstep again.
I didn't care what offer of help she had on the table, I wasn't going to let her intimidate me anymore.
I walked to the door with my phone pressed to my ears just dialing 911, that's when I looked into the peephole and froze.
It wasn't Hilda and her boy toy this time.
Leon was standing on the porch impatiently pacing as he did.
I watched as he knocked again and then called out my name.
"Bianca, open the door," he sounded worried. "Are you okay? Please, open the door."
I backed away silently, my legs almost giving out beneath me.
Frankly, I could not face him right now.
Every fiber of my being was calling out to him. I wanted to hug him, to cry on him, to tell him what had happened just like old times.
Leon had become the pillar of my existence and imagining life without him was painful.
But I wasn't a stupid high school girl. I knew he was the enemy right now, and I couldn't keep running back to him.
“Bianca?" He called again, “I know you're in there."
I ran back upstairs into my room before I did something stupid like open the door and jump into his arms.
Safely away, I climbed onto the mattress, pulling the duvet over my shoulders and praying that sleep would come.
It was impossible.
I slept there, listening and waiting for the sound of his car engine rumble off. But it didn't come.
Leon was still standing at my front door and only the thought of that was enough to make me not sleep.
Finally, knowing I couldn't just pretend to sleep for the whole night, I swung my feet off the bed and actually marched downstairs to face him.
But first I opened the curtain in my bedroom and sure enough, Leon was standing by his car this time, his hands folded and his face staring directly up into my window.
For a second, I felt a shiver run down my spine. Did he see me? Has he seen my face? It was so dark that I couldn't be so certain.
Throwing on a sleeping robe over my nightdress, I walked downstairs and inhaled deeply before I pulled open the deadbolt on the front door and swung it open.
Leon instantly walked up the steps.
He was wearing a shirt and his work trousers and I knew the shirt wasn't ideal for the cold.
It was pretty chilly inside and just standing here for seconds made me wonder how he could stand in that driveway for so long without freezing.
“Are you okay?" He asked as soon as I opened the door but I noticed that he didn't try to come in.
“What do you care?" I snapped, folding my arms. “Are you going to just stand in my driveway all night or are you going back home?"
I closed his eyes for a second before he spoke and I knew it was the habit he had when he was damn frustrated and just trying to keep his calm.
Good for him. He deserved the misery.
"Can I come inside?" he asked softly.
I realized his lips were slowly getting a little blue and I couldn't allow him to freeze out there with just his shirt.
"You have five minutes, Leon," I said, stepping aside without meeting his eyes. "I am going to bed soon, I'm exhausted."
Leon stepped into the living room room, and I pushed the door shut behind him, leaning my back against it and crossing my arms.
He didn't move deeper into the house thankfully, he just turned to face me.
"What were Hilda and Julian doing at your place?" he asked calmly.
"I don't see how that is your business. It's my private life.”
"Private?" Leon’s eyes widened slightly in disbelief. "Private with my ex-wife and her boy toy? Bianca, you know what kind of woman she is. What were they doing inside this house?"
"Yes, private," I shot back angrily. "I am an adult, Leon. I can associate with whoever I want. I am not your daughter, and I am certainly not your wife. You do not get to dictate who visits me."
Leon looked at me as if I had slapped him. "Why are you doing this? Why on earth are you teaming up with my enemies?"
"Really? Enemies?" I laughed bitterly. "A few months ago, you were so eager to keep her living in your mansion and let her torture me every single day. And suddenly she is your enemy? You know what? I don't have any words for you. Get out of my house."
Leon didn't move. "Bianca, listen to me—"
"Get out!" I raised my voice, taking a step toward him. "Get out or I will pack my things tonight, walk out that door, and you will never lay eyes on me again! Just because you paid for this place doesn't mean you get to barge in whenever you feel like it.”
"Bianca, why do you have to fight me every single time? You know that's not why I'm here. I saw Bianca drive here and I wanted to make sure you're fine, I gave the house to you and I don't want it back.”
"And I already told you I have a repayment plan for every single dollar!” I retorted harshly, "so you're going to have to discuss that with my lawyer!"
"Bianca, Hilda cannot be trusted.”
"And who are you to tell me who to trust?”
"I care about you!"
“I don't want your care, you pathetic liar!"
Leon froze, squinting at me. “When have I ever lied to you?"
My mind went to the pictures and I almost felt tears falling. I couldn't allow him to see me like this. “Leave, leave my house right now!”
Leon threw up his hands. “Talk to me, Bianca and stop avoiding whatever is causing you to behave like this!"
“I hate you!"
“What?" Leon looked genuinely surprised and I had to give it to him. He was either a really good actor or he never thought I'd find out about his escapades.
“Get out of my house this minute!" I walked to his face almost like I wanted to drag him out by the collar.
But who was I kidding? Leon was way too big for me to drag out. He was twice my size and at least a foot taller.
“You know you can't fight me,” he said as I got closer.
"Really?" I snapped, staring right into his eyes. "Because you think you are a billionaire, I cannot fight you? You think you can just oppress me, use me, and discard me like the rest of them?"
Leon looked confused again. "The rest of them? Who? What on earth are you talking about, Bianca? I feel like you are executing me for crimes I never even committed!"
"Really?" I snapped. "How do you know it's a crime, then? Come on, Leon! I am tired of your lies! Get out of my house!"
When he still stood there, staring at me like a stone statue, I grabbed a sofa pillow and threw it hard right at his chest.
"Get out, you son of a bitch!" I screamed, the tears finally running down my face. "Leave my house, you pervert! You... you monster!"
As I lunged at him desperately and swung my arm, the loose sash of my robe fell open and I was just standing in my short negligee before him.
Leon didn't fight back, he just stood there as I hit his solid chest over and over again.
He didn't even budge, almost like my punches weren't affecting him.
Angry, I grabbed his face, scratching, but he just pulled me away gently and held me at arms length.
“Hey, hey, Bianca, stop," he said calmly, grabbing both of my arms and pinning it behind my back until I couldn't move.
I was crying now and screaming but all he did was hold me and try to embrace me.
“Get off me!" I cried out and yanked my hands away from him when he finally let go.
Immediately, I crumpled straight on the floor, curling into a ball and sobbing so violently that my entire body shook.
I knew my robe was open now and my thighs, breasts and entire body was on full display. But I didn't even have the energy to care. I felt so ashamed and small that all I could do was cry.
Leon dropped to the floor immediately and pulled my robe around my shoulders gently, covering me up.
"Bianca, please," he murmured tenderly. "Please talk to me, you're hurting and it's breaking my heart. Whatever it is, let's figure it out together.”
I shook my head and scooted away from him, “Don't come closer."
"Bianca, please, you know I'll never hurt you."
"No, I don't know that," I wept, clutching the robe and refusing to let him pull me into his arms. "I don't know anything anymore, Leon! I am not a child! I am not one of your playthings! You cannot lie to me anymore, okay?”
“I've never lied to you, Bianca! Stop accusing me of things I don't…”
“Leave! It's either you give me a quit notice and I leave or let this be the very last time you ever show up at my house, or I swear to God I am getting a restraining order against you!"
Leon pulled his hands back, looking hurt.
"What we have is a strictly professional work relationship," I choked out, wiping the wet streaks from my cheeks with trembling hands. "And right now, you are stalking me."
"I am sorry," Leon said softly. "I shouldn't have come but I saw Hilda's car turning into your neighborhood. I thought she might hurt you."
"I don't think she can hurt me!" I cried, looking up at him through blurred vision. "You are the reason she is coming after me in the first place! Don't you realize that? Your son, your ex-wife, all of them, they are driving me crazy! And it is all your fault! Stay away from me, Leon! Ever since you came into my life, my entire life has been a complete mess!"
I had to admit that those words didn't come up exactly how I expected.
Somehow, I knew I had hit him really hard and Leon stared down at me with such vulnerable eyes that I regretted my words immediately.
He swallowed hard, his throat moving as if trying to force down the pain.
He slowly pushed himself up from the floor. "I am glad you are okay," he said flatly. "I will s
ee you at work tomorrow, Miss McIntyre. Please, lock the door behind you."
Then he turned on his heel and walked out.
I crumpled on the floor again, crying like a baby.
