Chapter 91 Wallpaper
Chapter 91 Wallpaper
When Donna woke up in the morning, she immediately felt the hot chest pressing against her back.
Sensing that Donna in his arms was turning around, Edward loosened his grip a bit to let her turn over.
"I thought last night was a dream."
Edward looked down at Donna with a slight smile.
"Do you know it's real now?"
Donna nodded, pulled out her phone, and checked the time.
"Aren't you going to the office today?"
"No."
Edward had just come back from a business trip. There wasn't really anything to do at the office anyway, so he decided to just stay home and relax.
During breakfast, Edward chatted with Donna about what happened yesterday.
"You were in such a hurry yesterday. Did something happen?"
If it wasn't something she couldn't handle herself, Donna would never bother him.
"Actually, it wasn't that big of a deal. I guessed that Peter wanted to sell Maya for money, but when I got there, I found another woman in the room."
She glanced at him as she spoke.
"You know that woman too. It was Chloe, the one who came to your office looking for you last time."
Speaking of Chloe, Donna watched Edward's expression carefully.
Edward looked genuinely confused for once.
"No idea who that is."
"I got there a bit late, so I don't know if what was happening in the room actually went through or not, but the scene was pretty shocking."
Donna had seen too little of the world—she didn't know people could get into such weird stuff.
"Next time something like this happens, don't go up there alone. Make sure you're safe first."
Although the hotel was owned by the Russell Group, Edward wasn't there at the time. If there had been a lot of people on the other side, Donna could have been in real danger. He could get revenge afterward, but the harm done to Donna could never be undone.
"Got it. Peter's plan probably failed last night. He still needs money, so maybe he'll try to send more people to Dino's bed. Do you think Maya will be next?"
Watching Donna think seriously, Edward put down his utensils.
"Do you want to save her?"
This question stumped Donna.
She had rushed up there today wanting to save Maya. She felt that no matter how awful Maya was, she was still a woman, and being sent by Peter to an old man was just too pitiful.
But thinking about it now, Donna felt it was the Peter family's own business. What if Maya was actually willing?
"Let's respect other people's choices."
Thinking it over now, Donna realized that even if she had actually saved Maya, Maya probably wouldn't have been grateful. She might even think Donna went there to watch her humiliation.
Edward nodded seriously. His voice sounded especially nice this morning.
"Not everyone is as kind as you. She saw the hotel situation last night too. If she still doesn't take precautions, that's just stupid on her part."
Donna realized something belatedly.
"So were you just complimenting me?"
"Aren't you worried I'll cause trouble for you out there? Dino's status is way higher than Peter's. If you really fall out with him, your hotel business will be affected too. After he finds out about my relationship with you, he'll come after you too."
Edward spoke up, "Why should I be afraid? You didn't do anything wrong. With my current position, very few people can actually cause me trouble. I've climbed this high so that the people I want to protect can act without fear, haven't I?"
Edward's words made Donna blush.
But what he said was true.
The Russell family had absolute power over Silvermere. Dino was just a businessman from out of town—how much trouble could he possibly stir up in front of Edward?
Edward didn't go to the office all day. He either worked in the living room or went to his study for online meetings.
Donna had a very relaxing afternoon. Around four o'clock, she suddenly felt sleepy. She turned off her phone, lay down on the bed, and fell asleep. When she woke up again, it was already past seven in the evening.
Edward was still in his study. Having the servants cook at this hour would be a bit late, so Donna changed her clothes and knocked on the study door.
Edward looked at the head poking through the doorway.
"What's up?"
Donna had a smile on her face.
"Let's go out to eat."
Edward nodded, then said to the computer, "Let's end today's meeting here. Everyone go rest."
After Edward left, the people in the online meeting room breathed a sigh of relief. They thought they'd be in a meeting until late again tonight, but someone actually called Edward over—and it was a woman's voice.
Quite a few people had already guessed who this person was, since Donna had been to the Russell Group before.
Edward didn't like having too many people at home, so none of the servants he hired lived in. The chef had already gone home, and the driver was off duty too.
Donna walked to the driver's seat but was stopped by him.
"What are you doing?"
Donna pointed at the car, confused.
"Driving. You don't want to walk there, do you?"
Edward strode over to her side and tugged at her shoulder, pulling her away from the car door.
"I don't have a habit of making you my driver."
Donna nodded blankly, silently marveling at his manners, then opened the passenger door.
Edward and Leo were on completely different levels. Leo could get drunk in the middle of the night and call her to pick him up. Leo didn't care if you were a guy or a girl—when he could use you, you were his driver.
After getting in the car, Donna turned her head to look at Edward's profile. It was already dark now, and in the dim light she could see Edward's sharp features. Good thing she cared about looks—she had picked him out at first sight.
Donna's gaze was quite infatuated, until Edward held his phone in front of her and asked with a smile.
"Where to? Just set up the navigation for me."
Donna snapped out of it and took his phone.
She'd looked at Edward's phone a few times before—default wallpaper, minimal apps, totally an old person's phone style.
"Your wallpaper is so ugly."
She complained while entering the location into his phone. After finding it, she remembered to ask him.
"Do you mind eating something not so fancy?"
"Don't mind at all. Eat whatever you want."
Edward started the car, not forgetting to answer her.
"If you think this wallpaper is ugly, you can change it for me."
Donna didn't think much of it and opened his photo album.
There were only two photos in it, and they were the garden photos she'd sent him last time. Hard to imagine someone's phone album having so few photos.
Donna opened his WhatsApp again and used her own phone to send a recent photo of hydrangeas from the garden.
The green was very soothing to the eyes.
"The flowers in the garden are all blooming. I'll cut a few branches tomorrow to put in the house."
