Chapter 90 Ms. Nelson
Chapter 90 Ms. Nelson
When Donna walked in, Isolde, who had just been talking in the kitchen, came out.
Beatrice didn't look too pleased, but seeing the two of them face each other, she still made introductions.
"This is Edward's aunt, Isolde. She married and moved away, and she's been back visiting family recently. You two haven't met yet."
Isolde was over forty. Although she dressed very fashionably, her face still showed signs of age. It was all because her husband was useless - she had to help with a lot of the family business. With all that hard work, she didn't have much time for beauty salons, so naturally her face had lost its firmness.
Donna greeted her politely.
"Aunt Isolde, hello. I'm Edward's wife, Donna."
As soon as the words left her mouth, Beatrice grabbed Donna's hand and pulled her toward the sofa, cutting Isolde off mid-sentence.
Beatrice had never liked Isolde to begin with. When Isolde married Tristan, Isolde wasn't married yet and would follow behind Beatrice's mother-in-law, giving her a hard time at every opportunity.
It wasn't until after Isolde got married and received the same treatment that she started trying to get on Beatrice's good side. Beatrice just couldn't stand her troublemaking ways.
Isolde knew Beatrice didn't like her, and Donna was the wife of Edward, Beatrice's favorite. It was only natural that Beatrice would value Donna and give her the cold shoulder.
Beatrice sat on the sofa, warmly chatting with Donna and completely ignoring Isolde, which actually saved Donna some trouble.
"I don't know when Edward will be back from his business trip. If it's inconvenient for you to be home alone, you can move in and stay with me. The two places aren't far apart anyway, and when Edward comes back, he can take you home."
In Beatrice's view, Edward's own place was cold and empty. A young woman like Donna living there alone would be even more lonely.
Donna politely declined.
"I'd better not disturb you. Besides, that place is closer to where I work."
Beatrice didn't insist. She was finding Donna more and more likable.
Before she could speak again, Isolde sat down next to Beatrice.
"Beatrice, why didn't anyone tell me Edward was getting married?"
Beatrice gave her a sidelong glance.
"Why would I tell you? As long as Edward is happy."
"Listen to what you're saying. Didn't you ask me to help find potential matches for Edward before? I finally found someone and was just about to suggest bringing her to meet Edward, and today you tell me he's already married. How am I supposed to explain that to her?"
Saying this in front of Donna was really awkward.
Beatrice was very unhappy. First of all, she had never asked Isolde to do anything for her, and even if she had, could Isolde actually get it done?
Whenever there was something good, Isolde always prioritized her own family first. Saying she was helping Edward find a match was just using Edward's influence to handle her own business.
Anyone with basic manners wouldn't bring up past matters on an occasion like this.
"What's there to explain? We never agreed to anything."
After Beatrice finished speaking, she gave Isolde a warning look. But how could Isolde be afraid of her glare? She was about to speak again when a light cough came from upstairs.
"Isolde, you've been talking so long, you must be thirsty."
Tristan came out of his study, and Donna quickly stood up to greet him.
The serious expression on Tristan's face broke into a smile. Donna was really so young, she seemed almost like his grandchild's generation. Naturally, he should be kind to her.
"Donna, you look like you've lost weight recently. Make sure to eat more at dinner."
Watching these two people fuss over Donna, Isolde felt a bit jealous and quickly walked to Tristan's ear to whisper.
"The girl I found for Edward this time is from the Nelson family. Tristan, why don't you reconsider?"
She looked down on Donna, thinking Donna was completely unworthy of Edward.
Tristan spoke sternly.
"Don't mention this again. I don't care which family she's from. Right now, I only recognize Donna as my daughter-in-law."
Isolde couldn't help but complain.
"You were such a sharp person when you were young. How come now that you're old, you can't see the situation clearly?"
Tristan's cold gaze swept over.
"If you still want to stay, shut your mouth. Otherwise, leave right now."
Knowing Tristan was angry, Isolde quickly shut up. Even at the dinner table, whenever she was about to speak, she was stared down by both Tristan and Beatrice at the same time. Isolde could only lower her head and eat.
Donna actually found this meal quite pleasant.
After dinner, Beatrice wanted to keep Donna a while longer. Donna sat for a bit more before leaving.
Before she could start the car, someone knocked on the window. Donna turned her head to find it was Isolde.
Donna rolled down the window.
"Aunt Isolde, is there something else?"
Isolde looked Donna up and down again, the disdain in her eyes completely undisguised.
"With your background, you're not worthy of Edward at all. I advise you to divorce him quickly and stop holding him back."
Donna didn't get out of the car, just looked at her from inside.
"And then let him marry that girl you have your eye on?"
Hearing the contempt in her tone, Isolde didn't get angry. Instead, she took on a superior attitude, educating Donna about the other woman's background.
"Ms. Nelson is the most distinguished lady in Sunset Ridge Town. Only she is worthy of Edward."
Honestly speaking, the fact that the other party had approached her was quite surprising.
Although Isolde's city was near Sunset Ridge Town, the Nelson family was way above her reach. It wasn't that she hadn't tried to find connections - she just couldn't find a way in.
But just a few days ago, Ms. Nelson suddenly sent word that she wanted to meet Edward.
That's when Isolde rushed to The Russell Manor to tell the Russell family this news, only to be hit with this bombshell as soon as she arrived.
The only person in the Russell family worthy of Ms. Nelson was Edward.
But fortunately, Edward's marriage hadn't been made public, and Donna wasn't from any powerful family. At worst, they could just get divorced.
"Whether he's worthy or not isn't for you to say."
Donna didn't want to waste words with her. She rolled up the window and stepped on the gas, and the car drove away.
Isolde was made to cough by the exhaust from her car. After recovering, she angrily tried to call Edward, but got a busy signal.
Donna returned to Grandview Estates and went to bed early. In her sleep, someone hugged her waist from behind. Smelling the familiar scent of pine, Donna mumbled.
"You're back?"
Edward had already washed up in the next room and was holding Donna through her pajamas.
"Yes. Did anyone bully you when you went to The Russell Manor today?"
Edward looked like he had rushed back to back Donna up. But Donna was really too sleepy right now. She mumbled a couple of words and fell back asleep, not answering his question at all.
