Chapter 116 Wedding Day

Chapter 116 Wedding Day
Brielle's POV

The next two days passed and now we were getting married. The courthouse wasn’t anything grand or extravagant. There were no flowers, no music, no aisle lined with candles. But standing there in my simple, short white dress, with my hair loosely pinned up, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect moment. I felt the cool breeze brush against my bare legs as I adjusted the hem of my dress, trying to shake off the nerves fluttering in my stomach.

Rick stood on one side of me, tall and protective, while Natalie stood on the other, her warm smile radiating a calm that I desperately needed. They were our witnesses, our chosen family for this intimate moment, and as I glanced over at them, I felt grateful to have them by our side.

Daylan stood a few feet away, looking impossibly handsome in a tailored suit, his eyes fixed on me like I was the only person in the world. His expression was soft, full of a love that made my heart swell. The judge cleared his throat, signaling that it was time for us to begin. But all I could think about was how surreal this moment felt. I was about to become Brielle Hart.

“Are you ready?” Daylan asked, his voice low and soothing as he reached out for my hand. I placed my hand in his. The warmth of his skin against mine calmed my racing heart just enough to steady my breath.

I nodded, squeezing his hand. “More than ready.” I smiled.

The judge began speaking, but my focus was solely on Daylan. His eyes held mine with such intensity that I felt like we were the only two people in the room. Then it was time for us to exchange vows, and Daylan took a deep breath before speaking.

“Brielle,” he began, his voice a little rough around the edges, “From the moment I met you, I knew my life was never going to be the same. You’ve challenged me, stood by me, and showed me what it means to love someone with your whole heart. You’re my strength, my home, and I promise to love you fiercely, every single day. No matter what comes our way, I will be there. I will protect you, stand beside you, and remind you of the incredible woman you are. You are my forever, and I’m so honored to be yours.”

Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes, and I had to blink them away as he finished. There was a lump in my throat, but I knew I had to speak, so I swallowed hard and took a deep breath.

“Daylan,” I started, my voice trembling just slightly, “You came into my life when I wasn’t expecting it, and you turned my world upside down. But in the best way. You have shown me love in ways I didn’t know were possible. You have been my rock, my heart, and my everything. I promise to stand by you, to fight for us, and to love you unconditionally. No matter what challenges we face, I know we can get through them together. You are my forever too, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life by your side.”

His eyes softened, and I saw the emotion flicker across his face as the judge continued with the ceremony. The words blurred together in my mind, a soft hum in the background of the moment that felt like it was ours alone.

When the judge finally declared us husband and wife, Daylan pulled me into a kiss that was both gentle and filled with an unspoken promise. The world melted away, leaving only the two of us in that shared moment. "I love you" Daylan said against my lips.

"I love you too," I replied as I pulled back, smiling. I looked at our witnesses but yet Tabitha wasn't here. She didn't show up and that was a disappointment. She only texted that she couldn't make it, but I knew it had to do with our situation even after she had apologized, and I knew there was still more to it that day.

When we finally stepped out of the courthouse, Rick and Natalie were right behind us, both beaming. “That was beautiful,” Natalie said, her voice filled with emotion. She hugged me tightly, her smile wide. “You both were perfect.”

Rick clapped Daylan on the back, grinning. “You did good, Dad. She is one hell of a woman.” He got that right, yet he couldn't even handle me.

“I know,” Daylan replied, pulling me close to him again. His hand rested on my back, and for a moment, everything felt perfect.

As we stood outside of the courthouse in the afternoon sun, I felt it again, the familiar tightness in my chest. It started slowly, just a light flutter, but within moments, my heart was racing, pounding against my ribs. I tried to steady my breathing, but the palpitations wouldn’t stop. I pressed a hand to my chest, willing it to pass while Daylan was chatting to Rick and Natalie. We were about to go somewhere for our honeymoon and just relax away from everyone else.

“Brie?” Daylan’s voice was soft, but there was a note of concern in it. He could always sense when something was wrong, because it was his instinct with years of practice to know what to look out for.

“I’m okay,” I lied, forcing a smile. “Just... it’s been a lot today.”

He frowned, his eyes narrowing as he studied my face. “Are you sure? You don’t look fine.”

I shook my head, not wanting to worry him, especially on our wedding day. “It’s just... the excitement, I think. I took my pills this morning, so it’s probably nothing.”

He didn’t look convinced, but he let it go, pressing a gentle kiss to my forehead. “Alright,” he murmured. “But if it gets worse, I’m taking you to the hospital.”

I nodded, but deep down, I knew he was right. These episodes had been happening more frequently since that meeting with Mark at Tim's company, and even though I had been taking my medication, the palpitations weren’t going away. I just wanted to enjoy the day, but the pounding in my chest wouldn’t let me forget.

“We should get back to the apartment,” he said softly, still watching me carefully. “You need to rest.”

“What about our honeymoon?” I teased, trying to lighten the mood, though I knew he wasn’t buying it.

“Our honeymoon can wait,” he replied, his tone firm but loving. “Right now, I just want to make sure you are okay. We can always celebrate later.”

I smiled, feeling a rush of gratitude for him. “Okay. Let’s go home.”

Rick and Natalie gave us their congratulations once more before we parted ways. They were both so happy for us, and I hated that I wasn’t feeling one hundred percent. I wanted to celebrate, to enjoy this moment with Daylan, but my body was telling me otherwise.

When we got back to the apartment, I was exhausted. The adrenaline from the day had worn off, and all I wanted to do was crawl into bed. Daylan helped me out of my dress, and I slipped into something more comfortable before collapsing onto the bed.

“Are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital?” he asked again, his voice gentle but full of worry.

I shook my head. “I’m just tired,” I assured him. “I will be fine. I just need to sleep.”

He sighed, clearly still worried, but he didn’t push it. Instead, he pulled the blankets up over me and kissed my forehead again. “Alright. But if you’re not feeling better in the morning, we are going, okay?” he gave me a stern look.

“Okay,” I mumbled, already half-asleep. The weight of the day had finally caught up with me, and I could feel myself drifting off. The last thing I heard before sleep claimed me was the sound of Daylan moving quietly around the room, making sure I was comfortable.

Despite the tightness in my chest, I felt a sense of peace wash over me. I did feel bad that I ruined our honeymoon this way. My palpitations were now starting to subside as that peace washed over me. I never told him about it in hopes that it would go away on its own, but it could be my condition. What if it got worse? Darkness kept pushing me further away from my thoughts. All I wanted was to have happy thoughts. I was married to the love of my life, and that was all that mattered, right now.
