Chapter 108 Disaster in Need, Disaster Indeed

Chapter 108 Disaster in Need, Disaster Indeed
The safe house was a small, nondescript cottage tucked away in a quiet corner of the city. Inside, the atmosphere was tense. Rick is still trying to talk to Mia, who insists she wants to be left alone in one of the rooms. The baby, having finally been fed and soothed, lay sleeping on a couch nearby. Carol could hear what was going on, but she didn't interfere.

Rick, unable to bear the silence any longer, took a deep breath and faced Mia, his voice tentative. "Mia, we need to talk."

Mia stood from where she was seated; she made to leave the room, but Rick pulled her back. He quickly cautioned himself as if Claus was still there. The few punches he received the other time have reset his brain.

"Why did you even come to save me if you are not going to talk to me?" He snapped.

Mia's eyes, filled with a mixture of anger and hurt, met Rick's gaze. "Oh really, that is what you have to say now. Incredible." She uttered in disbelief.

Apologetically, "Mia, please, we need to talk," he pleaded.

"Talk? Now you want to talk?" Mia fired back, anger taking control of her.

Rick sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I know things have been difficult between us, but we can't keep avoiding this."

Mia's anger flared as she paced the room, her voice trembling with emotion.

"Difficult? Rick, you cheated on me. You betrayed our trust, our marriage. And you think it's just 'difficult'?"

Rick winced at her words, his guilt weighing heavily on him. "Mia, I never meant for any of that to happen. It was a mistake, a moment of weakness."

Mia's eyes welled up with tears as she confronted him. "A mistake? Do you even know how much that hurt me? How much does it still hurt? How much is it going to continue to hurt me?"

Rick moved closer to her, his expression pained. "Mia, I can't change the past, but I can promise you that I regret it more than anything. I love you, and heavens know I do. Please, let's find a way to move past this."

Mia's tears spilt over, and she wiped them away angrily. "You say you love us, but your actions spoke louder than your words, Rick. You were distant, and I complained about it. You claimed it was work, Rick. I believed you. You were not even there when we lost our baby. I mourned alone, but you blamed me for it. Not knowing you already had a child with another woman. This child."

Mia walked to the couch and pointed to the baby in anger. You made a child with another woman. What I craved the most with you. I don't know if I can ever trust you again."

Rick's voice broke as he pleaded, "Mia, I'll do anything to make this right. Please, give me a chance to earn back your trust."

Mia's anger seemed to be mingling with sadness now. "Rick, it's not just about trust. It's about us. About our family. How do we move on from you having a child outside wedlock?"

Rick nodded, his own eyes moist with tears. "You're right. I've hurt you badly, and I'm so sorry. I promise to do whatever it takes to make things right. I'll go to therapy; I'll do whatever you want. Just please, don't give up on us."

Mia's resolve seemed to waver as she looked into Rick's eyes, searching for sincerity. "Therapy? Why do you need therapy? Why are you playing victim here?"

"Mia, I am just trying to please you," Rick exclaimed.

"Don't please me. Rick, please. Just do right by me.”

Silence took over and then Mia resumes again "Rick, I need time. Time to heal, time to figure out if we can ever repair what's been broken."

Rick nodded, his voice filled with determination. "I'll give you all the time you need, Mia. I won't pressure you, but there are things I need to know, questions I need answers to."

Mia was quiet, so Rick continued. "Where did you get all these men? How did you know them? What did you do for them to come save me? Why is one of them so worried about you that he hits me, your husband? What is going on, Mia? Who are these people? They are dangerous."

Mia sighed. "Rick, they truly seemed dangerous, but if they saved you from the hole they put you in such that even the police couldn't find you, then trust them enough to get us home safely." Mia said.

The argument between Rick and Mia showed no signs of abating. Tensions had flared, and their voices grew louder as accusations flew.

Rick, frustration evident in his voice, pointed an accusatory finger at Mia. "You knew all these bad men, Mia! Claus, Carol, Sergio, Daniel... they're all criminals! How can you expect me to trust them?"

Mia's eyes blazed with anger at Rick's choice of words. She folded her arms defensively, her voice laced with indignation. "Bad men? You're calling them bad men? Rick, they risked their lives to save you! They put everything on the line to protect your child, to protect me! And you dare call them bad?"

Rick's temper flared as he shot back, "I'm not ungrateful, Mia. I appreciate that they helped us get out of that mess, but that doesn't change who they are. Criminals, Mia. They're criminals!"

Mia clenched her fists, her voice trembling with emotion. "You know what, Rick? I don't care if they're criminals or not. They were there for us when we needed help, when our lives were in danger. I trusted them because I knew they would do whatever it took to keep us safe. Can you say the same for yourself?"

Rick's expression shifted from anger to frustration as he realized Mia's unwavering stance. "Mia, it's not that simple. We can't just overlook who they are."

Mia's eyes bore into Rick's, her voice unwavering. "And I can't judge you solely by your pasts. What did you do? Hmmn?"

Rick's shoulders slumped in defeat as he realized the futility of their argument. He knew he couldn't change Mia's perspective, not when she had seen these so-called "bad men" risk their lives to protect their family.

Mia's anger began to give way to sadness as she continued, "Rick, I love you, and I want us to get through this together. But you need to understand that my priority is our safety. I won't let anyone, not even you, threaten that."

Rick's eyes softened as he heard the fear and determination in Mia's voice. He knew she was right, and he couldn't fault her.
