Chapter One Hundred and Fifty-Nine - Something Is Going On
***Alyssa***
We have been back for a couple of weeks. We have settled back into our daily routine, but something hasn’t been right with Wyatt. He seems off, unfocused. He isn’t off with me; he has been fine with me. It is more with work or everything in general to do with business. He seems unhappy and more stressed than usual. I can’t help but feel that he is keeping something from me.
I haven’t brought it up or pushed him on it. I wanted to see if he would talk to me about whatever has been going on, but so far, he hasn’t. I will need to be the one to bring it up. I don’t want him to keep it all locked up. It took him a while to let his walls down, and I don’t want him to start putting them back up.
I plan to chat with him tonight. He will be home soon. He is out having a drink with his dad and brother. I am making dinner for us and have a nice bottle of wine for us to drink. If he is relaxed, he may have a better chance of opening up. I swear if he tells me nothing is wrong, I will be annoyed.
I place the chicken casserole in the oven to cook. It will take about an hour. It means we can have some wine and chat while it cooks. I hear the front door open, and he soon appears. I smile, standing up to greet him.
“Hello, my love.” I smile and kiss him softly.
“Hey, sweetheart.” He replies when we part.
He pulls me against his chest and hugs me tightly. I happily hug back. I sense he needs it. He steps back after a minute.
“Are you okay?”
He nods and kisses the top of my head, “Yes, I am all good.”
“Would you like some wine? Dinner is in the oven, but it will be at least an hour.”
“Sure. I am going to change. I will be back in a minute.”
He disappears to the room, and I get us a glass of wine. I sit down on the sofa and wait for him to return. When he does, he has joggers and a hoodie on. He always looks damn good in casual clothing. He takes the spot next to me, and I hand one of the glasses to him. He takes a sip, sighs and rests back against the sofa.
“Wyatt, please talk to me. I know something has been going on with you since we returned. You seem unhappy and more stressed than usual when it comes to business. Has something happened? And please don’t tell me it is nothing.” I say softly and rest my hand on his knees.
Wyatt takes another drink and turns to face me. “There is something.” He says softly.
“Tell me, my love. What is going on? Why do you seem so miserable at work?”
He places his hand over mine and links our fingers. “I am. I am not enjoying it the way I used to. I need a change. It is something that has been on my mind for a while, even before we went on our trip.”
“What kind of change?”
“I want to take a step, maybe work at another position in the company, somewhere in the background.”
I am taken aback by his words. He has been business, business, business since I have known him.
“Really? Why? You are all about business usually.”
“I used to be, but things have changed. I have you now. I don’t want to spend all my time working and have to go away for business at times. I want to be able to focus more on you, on us and our future. Business isn’t my priority the way it used to be. You are.” He replies honestly.
“Wyatt, please tell me I am not the only reason for you thinking this. You have worked so hard for everything.”
I don’t want him doing all of this for me. He needs to do it for him, too.
“You are the main reason, but I am unhappy at work these days. I haven’t decided what I want to do because I wanted to discuss it with you first.”
I set my glass down and take his too. I climb into his lap. “Wyatt, if this is something you want to do, then do it. I want you to be happy. If you want to try something new or even take a break from work, I will support you all the way.” I smile and kiss him softly.
I don’t want him to be miserable.
“I think it is. I don’t want to waste my time working, especially when I don’t have to. Of course, I won’t stop completely working, that would drive me crazy, but I need some sort of change. The thought crossed my mind that maybe we could start a new business. I have no idea doing what, but it is an option I have been considering.”
“Maybe we can open a sex club,” I smirk.
He smirks back, “Hmm, that isn’t a bad idea. I won’t be down with that.”
I snicker, “I thought you be. But back to our conversation. Wyatt, whatever you choose to do, I promise I will be right by your side.”
He smiles brightly at me, “I know you will be. As I said, I haven’t made a decision, it is something I am considering. My father said if I decided to take a step back, I have not to worry about the clients, he will deal with them. There is still a lot to think about.”
I nod. “Take all the time you need. You need to make the right decision for you, my love. Whatever makes you happy.”
“Thank you for understanding. As long as I have you, I will always be happy.”
I reach in and press my lips to his in a gentle kiss. He places his hand on my cheek and kisses back. It lasts only a moment before we part.
“I love you.”
“I love you too, angel. I am sorry I didn’t talk to you about it before now.” He sighs.
I caress his cheek, “It is okay. I knew you would eventually.”
He hugs me to his chest, “I promise you will be the first to know when I make my choice.”
I nod and nuzzle my face in his neck. Hopefully, he won’t be so stressed now that he has spoken to me about it. I had a feeling it had to do with business, but I don’t believe I knew just how unhappy he was. He will make the right choice. He always does.
