CHAPTER 067

CHAPTER 067
«Jarvis Point Of View»

"Kid," a voice called, sharp enough to make me groan and roll over, wishing whoever it was would just disappear. "Jarvis, Levi is here."

Almost instantly, my eyes shot open, darting around the room, but there was no Levi in sight. Only a grumpy Sean, standing there with that unimpressed stare that made my chest tighten and my mood dip. I couldn’t help but pout. I couldn’t believe he used Levi on, as if the bastard wasn’t across oceans.

"You know Levi?" I blinked at the doctor, but Sean pinned me with a cold gaze.

"Personally? No. Didn't care to find out who," he blurted, blunt as ever. I crossed my arms over my chest, eyebrows knitting together. Why is he always so… intimidating?

I tilted my head, trying to read him, but Sean’s expression gave nothing away, just that silent, sharp kind of judgment that made me want to either run or avoid him like some plague. How did Tristan even put up with him being so cold?

"You're so blunt… how does Tristan put up with you?" I growled, but he just shrugged, like it was nothing.

"I wonder too," he muttered aloud, and I stared at him, unsure whether he was joking or seriously questioning his own existence. Then, without warning, he grabbed the back of my sweater and yanked me up from the chair.

"Your shift is over. Go eat," he said, sliding into the seat I had just vacated like it was his throne.

I let out a long, heavy sigh, my gaze drifting helplessly to Tristan’s still bloodless face. More than two weeks had passed, and still no real sign of life, though he had moved a finger once. Sean hadn’t been there to witness it; he had returned to LA to request leave before returning.

He said Tristan needed familiar faces around him… familiar presence… but there was no sign of him waking up, my heart inside twisted. Graduation was in less than a week. I sighed, the weight of helplessness pressing down.

"He will be fine. Go get yourself a drink," Sean assured, his voice calm but firm.

I hesitated for a moment before asking, "Do you want anything?"

"A bottle of water. You need money?"

I shook my head, a small smile tugging at my lips. Patience, Jarvis. I told myself, and with that, I turned and made my way to the hospital canteen.

~~

I admired how Sean was handling things, even though he wasn’t the doctor in charge. He carried himself with maturity, and then, of course, he was years older; of course, he had to handle things compared to me. Tristan was lucky to have him. I silently hoped that idiot would wake up soon.

I smiled faintly as I carried two bottles of water and approached Tristan’s room, but froze at the sound of voices inside. I peeped through the small gap and immediately stiffened. Tristan’s dad—Mr. Dan—was there. That man always made my skin crawl. He radiated frantic energy; the sharp, acrid stench of alcohol clinging to him made me tense. I recalled once catching him using hard drugs, something I’d used before, but it never stopped being unnerving. In stark contrast, Tristan’s stepmom, Mrs. Benita. The woman had always been kind and welcoming. She visited almost every day, showing no malice, even while quietly mourning the loss of her son. I let out a quiet, shaky breath, feeling a mix of relief and dread.

I turned to leave, intending to give them privacy, but the words that left Mr. Dan’s mouth stopped me cold.

"I need you to leave Tristan. I want you gone by the time he wakes up."

My eyes widened, shock rooting me to the spot. Sean, however, let out a bitter, almost mocking laugh and retorted.

"You’ve got to be kidding me, Dan. You are one funny man."

"Look here, Sean, I don’t care what you have with Tristan, but I don’t want you near my son or anywhere close to my family ever again. It was your fault Tristan pushed Dean, and because of you, my son is dead!" Mr. Dan spat, eyes blazing with anger and something darker I couldn’t quite place.

Sean didn’t flinch; he stared blankly. "It’s not my fault your family wants the same man who wants nothing to do with them," he countered.

"Have you ever wondered how Tristan would react knowing you knew how his mother died but kept it from him? How would he react knowing you’re some murderer, Sean? It’s in your blood. You can never change who you are, especially while still part of that damn syndicate. I don’t want my son with a bloody murderer," Dan continued, each word sharp and venomous.

"Tristan already knows who I am. I have nothing to hide," Sean replied confidently, his tone chilling in its certainty. I could almost feel the weight of it pressing down.

"But does he know you’re still one?" Mr. Dan’s voice dripped with a smirk, and my eyes widened. Well, Tristan certainly wasn’t unaware of that.

"Don’t make me kill you, Dan. Trust me, Tristan won’t cry at your funeral," Sean threatened, his stare like steel.

"I’m warning you, Sean. Leave my son. If you don’t, I’ll make his and your life a living hell. Don’t forget, I still have your daughter; don’t test me."

Suddenly, the sound of rushing steps, followed by a crash against the wall, shattered the moment. "Don’t you dare bring my daughter into this!"

I instinctively rushed forward, heart pounding, only to find Tristan’s father pressed against the wall, Sean’s hand tight around his neck. Mr. Dan’s cocky smirk didn’t waver; it almost made my stomach turn.

"Does Tristan know you’ve hidden your daughter from him? He only knows half your bloody secrets," Dan spat, his voice venomous. "But I can tell him the rest… or, if you leave, your secrets stay safe with me, and we can be together again." He smirked like it was some twisted joke.

Sean’s grip relaxed instantly, and he stepped back, his eyes flashing with disgust. "You are disgusting. ¡Me arrepiento de haberte conocido!"

Mr. Dan’s smirk widened, confident and poisonous. "Solo estamos comenzando. Si yo no puedo estar contigo, nadie puede, especialmente mi hijo. Será mejor que cuides tu espalda, Sean."

I froze for a moment, realizing just how far this was going to go. The tension in the room was sharp enough to cut, and I couldn’t tell who would make the next move as they stared at each other while every instinct of mine screamed danger.
