When I came out of our house I immediately looked for Duncan, I turned to the left he was leaning against the light pole while smoking. I walked closer to him.
"Do you smoke?" I asked when I could get close to him, because I had just seen him smoking.
"Yes, when I can't sleep." he replied.
I rolled my eyes because he was staring at me, why would he look like that? I couldn't look straight at him.
"W-where are we going? Because look at what I'm wearing. I'm asleep." I said and he laughed softly and I smiled even though I didn't know why.
"Why are you laughing? Oh, you're more handsome when you laugh," I joked to him, but deep inside it's true that he's really handsome.
"Nothing. But you're cute wearing that."
He answered and then he turned his back on me and started walking. I chased after him and walked with him.
"We're just going to walk to make us sleepy because I can't sleep,"
I went in front of him. I looked at him carefully, after that he looked at me too. Later, I rubbed his forehead and neck and wrinkled him before I did.
"Do you have a fever?" I laughed when I asked him because I changed with him now, because he was always angry, now it's different.
"Nothing." he smiled back at the same time he held my hand. "Let's go." he pulled me.
"Wait, don't even touch me lest someone see us." I was suddenly nervous and looked around.
"Tssk! Let them go!"
He said angrily, I kept quiet because that's not really what I was thinking, I just couldn't really feel when he held my hand. Because I feel a strange heat and you think it's electricity flowing through your whole body. And another reason why I should be worried that someone will see, eh, I'm even proud of it with me, it looks like I've won.
"What are you thinking? You still have a smile there?"
I turned to Duncan who was smiling. "I just don't remember anything," I replied with a smile but my mind was far away, that's where I first met him.
"Crazy," he said softly.
I just laughed at what he said. Really! I'm crazy about you! Shout of the mind. Many of us are distracted because we really grab attention apart from being very handsome now, also because of what I'm wearing. Imagine you have a handsome man holding hands and then I'm in pajamas, this is a serious trip.
"Balot! Pinoy! Delicious!"
"Pinoy, Balot! Delicious!"
We stopped when we heard the man walking with a basket bit by bit. I didn't realize that here we were going up the road and then through the church, because the church was close to us. I motioned to the wrapper and sat down at the back of the church. There's a stone chair here, Duncan just stands there as if he doesn't want to sit down.
"You can sit down, it's free." I smiled at him, Manong was approaching. Duncan sat down slowly next to me which made me laugh.
"Manong, please buy us," I said when Manong approached, he was all smiles.
"Ilan po mam?" he replied as Duncan and I looked around.
"Four, Manong," I answered enthusiastically, digging into my pocket. 'Fool, I don't have any money. I scratched my head and looked at Duncan who was smiling.
"Ah ... Daniel .. did you bring any money there?" I asked hesitantly, I saw that he grabbed me when he reached out to me and my eyes widened.
"One thousand?" Even Manong was surprised, while looking at the money.
"Mam, I don't have a coin of that value. I just came out, you're still my first customer," Manong shook his head.
"Don't you have a small amount?" I asked him and I saw that he seemed irritated.
"There's nothing like that in my wallet, it's good that I have cash with me."
I don’t know if he was pissed or bragging. "Yabang naman, oh you don't have a lot of money." I'm hard on him
"Tssk! I'm just telling the truth, ok?" He answered in English, Manong was a tulaley.
"Mom, will you buy more?"
I turned to Manong who was waiting for us. "How is that, our house is still a bit far away. I really want to eat that," I said sullenly, Manong's face was laughing.
"How much is all that?"
My eyes and Manong's suddenly widened.
"Ho? You'll buy everything?" Manong's face was shocked.
"What did I say?"
I became angry with Duncan, since his bad habits had returned.
"How much?" he said again.
"Ah, Man, how much is it all?" I groaned because Manong didn't seem to understand.
"It's all about 750 pesos because it's all fifty pieces, fifteen to one." its answer stuttering.
"Take this!" Duncan took the money from my hand and handed it to, Manong.
"Eh, sir I don't have a pen there."
"That's you," Duncan's words were emotionless. Manong couldn't believe it and his hands were still shaking when he reached for the money.
Duncan reached one thousand again so I was surprised at what he did.
"Add it first, with the basket you brought."
Manong and I both look stupid, we really can't believe it.
"All right sir, thank you very much, this is a big deal because my son is sick." Manong spoke tearfully.
I felt sorry for him because I know this feeling. I turned to Duncan who grabbed his wallet again, then he peeked at the contents, he just took a few cards there and then he handed his wallet in full to Manong.
"What's that for sir?"
Manong asked confused, I was also stunned suddenly.
"Just accept it later and change my mind." the language is, Duncan.
"Take it, so that your child can be healed." I cried because I was happy for Manong and Duncan.
"Many, many thanks to you." Manong said goodbye and we were looking at him as we walked away. But suddenly Manong returned.
"Ah, I forgot to give you the vinegar, it's delicious vinegar from the province."
Manong smiled after handing me the bag of mineral water filled with vinegar and lots of chili and whatnot. Then he left.
I looked at the basket I was holding and this bottle of vinegar. It's really hot -tempered, I'm going to bring it with so many wrappers and Filipinos? Fifty pieces?
"What the heck?" Duncan suddenly asked as he looked at me.
"Balot and pinoy." my simple answer, I heard nothing from him so I took two and handed it to him.
"No, thanks you." He refused my reach.
"What are you, it's just an egg, it's delicious especially when you sip the soup." I tried to reach him.
"I don't want it to be dirty, look at that vinegar." The look on his face was shaky.
"As for the art of it, you won't die here. And it's another favorite of men, especially my dad, never mind I'll just give it to others." Suddenly he took a wrapper from my hand.
"Ok, but only one."
I smiled at him when he took the package.
"Okay, that's how that food needs to be beaten lightly so that we can peel it. The hole should be small because if you're proud, the soup will be thrown away." I showed it to him and he guided me.
"There! Then add vinegar or salt to make it tastier,"
"Ok, and choice salt." he chooses salt.
He added salt and looked at me as I sipped the soup. He, on the other hand, seems to be tasting it before actually sucking it. When he finished eating I thought he didn't want to but he was wrapped up four times.
"What's delicious isn't it?" I said laughing. "But it's said that too many are bad so that's enough, you're four," I stood up.
He just smiled at me. When he stood up, he took off his jacket and placed it on my shoulder.
"It's a little cold, let's go back." he was there and stood up.
"Thank you," I replied. "Let's go home," I said to him as we started to walk but he still didn't remove his hand from my shoulder, because he was hugging me while we were walking. I, on the other hand, felt as if my chest would explode with the force of my heartbeat and the tremor.
We are here at home again, the people here are still sound asleep because it is only past three in the morning. Dwane and I had a good night's sleep because they were all snoring and I just smiled.
"All right, go upstairs," Duncan shooed me away. I was just looking at him.
"Are you waiting for someone?" he asked, suddenly looking mischievous.
"Hey! No ah! I'm going to go up," I was about to turn around when he pulled me in front of him and hugged me very tightly.
"I really miss you so much, I can't afford not to see you for a long time. If only you could just be here every day by my side,"
I couldn't answer what he said because I couldn't believe it.
"All right, go to sleep," he said again.
He quickly kissed me on the forehead and it just touched my lips but it had a different effect on me. Stupidly, I climbed into my room and fell to my knees
Suddenly I screamed, at the same time I covered my mouth because I remembered how much more sleep. Hala! It's embarrassing that he might have heard me, but I was really thrilled until I kicked my bed and I fell. My body fell to the floor the pain of my elbow. Ouch!
"Son why? What happened to you?"
I raised my face because I was lying here on the floor, Mama's face was still sighing.
"I'm fine, ma," I whispered to my elbow that was hit.
"Are you sure?" Mom asked again and helped me get back to my bed.
"Yes ma," I replied with a smile.
"All right, go back to sleep, what time is it now," Mama came out and even though my hip was still sore, it was okay because I was really having fun.
The next day I woke up to the noise, so I got up and looked at the time before ten o'clock in the morning. When I came down I immediately heard Allen's voice, they were in the kitchen
When I entered the kitchen I was stunned because five men were eating with their hands and then still fighting over the dry food?
"Oh, son, you're awake. Come and join your friends."
I just smiled at mama as I watched and couldn't believe their arrangements.
"Come on sweetheart! Este! Mazel, by the way," Jex yelled at Allen and mama looked at me.
"There's nothing! Is there any more food? Looks like you've already eaten," I told them laughing while looking at the messy table.
"Hey! P're give me some tomatoes there! Your trick is that you've already dried the tomatoes, you still have the tomatoes," Allen complained to Duncan and I laughed at Allen.
"It's because you're slow," Duncan replied.
"Mom, do you still have rice?" Dwane and Vincent asked
"Nak ng puta! P're three dried ones that Vincent and I ate, one and a half dried ones? You ate more rice ah," Jex commented to Dwane, still laughing.
"Imitate me with your map dish and the rice you will eat," Vincent laughed at us all, including mama.
"We'll just buy it again when there's not enough, they don't even have anything to eat, son, they're already hungry. I said they just have it." mama's story
"There's as much as one of them! Earlier, after tasting it, it was disgusting and even beat the one who competed in eating sports,"
We looked at Duncan, he looked at Allen, he suddenly laughed when he saw what he looked like.
"What are you, pare? It's just a joke. You still seem to be short of money," Allen said laughing.
"Are you just scared?" Dwane's teasing.
Fun filled our whole house because of them and now I just had this experience.
