Chapter 205 DNA II
Chapter 205 DNA II
“Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!” Eva crashed out as she flung a bottle of alcohol across the television.
“He made me sign divorce papers. How could Maverick do that to me?!!! I thought Havilah was a strong leverage, but no!!!!!” She pulled at her hair.
“But no, instead he took her… and left me.” She laughed like a maniac.
“Why is everyone so obsessed with sending me out of the country? Why??!!!” She wailed like a kid.
“I guess you can answer that for me.”
She turned to Killian. He had his eyes open now, the gag still in his mouth. He remained tied to the chair, probably tired of trying to set himself free.
She stood up and ungagged him.
He coughed violently.
“E-Eva,” he called, his voice hoarse.
“What have you done?”
He stared at her mascara-smudged face.
“I haven’t done anything yet. Except tying you here and sending my daughter to her father,” she said, scratching her hair.
“When I heard you and Butler Rose saying to keep me indoors and Maverick might be searching for Havilah because he thinks she is his…” She touched his cheeks. “That’s when I decided to use that to my advantage—”
A phone call interrupted. Eva walked to it; it was Butler Rose. “Your mother is calling,” she laughed. A text followed.
“She has seen Havilah already. Wow, nice.” Eva typed something and switched off the phone. She used a flower vase to hit it until it shattered.
“I just need to keep her away for a few days.”
Killian sat there weakly, saliva dropping from the sides of his mouth.
“I-I don’t feel good. Take me to the hospital, please,” Killian said.
Eva pouted. “Why should I? So you can threaten me again?” She raised her eyes to the ceiling. “Where was I?… oh yeah… your conversation with your mother. I wanted to make you let your guard down… and you did… I wasn’t seeing my period, though.”
Killian threw up on himself.
Eva’s face twisted in disgust. She tossed a cloth to cover the mess from her view. “I spiked your drink with enough painkillers. It worked fast… voilà! Now we are here!”
Killian didn’t recognize who stood in front of him anymore. She wasn’t the little, innocent girl he grew up with, not the girl who got married. Did she change? Or had she always been like this?
“Poisoning me and still getting rejected must be hard. I’m sure they are one big happy family—Maverick, Heaven, their son, and Avi. Havilah won’t even look back for a manipulative mother like you. Heaven will be the best mother for—”
Eva tumbled a whole table to cut him off.
“You think I let my child go with him and signed those goddamn papers without a plan?” She laughed out loud. “They don’t know what’s coming.”
She bent close and whispered into his ears.
“You have gone insane, Eva. You should stop now!”
Killian closed his eyes. Maybe his mother had been right. She was the end of him, and yet he loved her deeply and truly.
“I heard your mother say something about us being siblings. You mean my father fucked the butler?… You look at me like I’m crazy, but you are the craziest one—knowing I’m your sister, yet you enjoy being in my pussy…” she slanted her head to the side.
“Disgusting.”
She opened her purse, brought out pills, and crushed them into powdered form with a bottle.
Killian knew what she wanted to do. He tightened his jaw, but she forced it open and poured it into his mouth. She clamped her hand over his mouth and nose tightly so he would swallow.
He began to feel weak. “Why?… all I did was love… you.”
“All I am doing is getting the man I love, because nobody will get him if I don’t… I’m not killing you… I just put you to sleep. I have to start my plan.” She pulled back from him.
“Someone has to get on the private jet my husband made me sign.” She laughed hysterically.
Maverick sat in a quiet, dim spot in the bar. He poured himself a drink, then another.
A brown file lay just beside his drink on the table; it read: DNA RESULTS. He had come straight from the hospital to this place.
“What’s up?” Collins said, taking the seat next to him.
Maverick didn’t spare him a glance. “Why are you here?”
“You beeped me. A quick one. Did you need a friend and were too shy to say it?” Collins teased. “Well, I tracked your phone and found you.” He took Maverick’s cup and drank from it.
Maverick shot him a threatening look.
“Well, you’re not one to call… I thought you were in trouble, so since I was working on tracking someone down, I just checked your ID…” He looked at the file on the table.
“Why did you do it?” He pointed at it for Maverick to see.
“Do you have to be blood-related to someone before you can be family?” he asked again.
“Like, I’m gay, and I can’t have kids with my partner, and we can adopt a kid and become a family. I see it as unnecessary doing DNA tests. Blood doesn’t define family,” Collins said, patting his back.
Maverick didn’t respond. He just kept pouring himself a drink until he was wasted. Collins drove Maverick home.
Havilah lay in her room, her eyes staring at the ceiling. The servants had tucked her into bed and left. She couldn’t sleep.
She got down, holding her plush toy and a book. She pushed her door open, peeked her head out first, then padded toward Liam’s room.
She entered and found him on his phone, playing games. “Liam, can you read me a story?”
“Are you a baby?” he asked her.
“Well, I can’t sleep… and I’m sad…” she pouted.
Liam kept his phone aside and shifted to the side, making enough space for her. Havilah lay down beside him.
“Why are you sad? You were happy before.”
“Because I saw you. Daddy said we can’t leave with mummy anymore.” Her vision blurred. “But I want to leave with both of them.” Her lips quivered.
Liam cursed the adults for being complicated and hurting the kids’ feelings. He reached out and wiped her tears.
“Don’t cry. I will always read you bedtime stories. I promise.”
Butler Rose went to Havilah’s room holding a plate of cookies and warm milk. She wanted to ask her some questions. But she opened the door and found it empty.
She went to Maverick’s room; it was empty. After searching for some time, she stopped at Liam’s room and saw the door slightly open. The little heir was adjusting the duvet over a small frame with blonde hair—it was Havilah.
She was already asleep. “Little master, I thought you would be hungry and brought you this,” she said, smiling and offering the cookies and milk.
She kept it on the table. “I will take her to her room.” She reached for her.
“She just fell asleep. You will wake her up… thank you for the snacks, but my mama doesn’t like me eating late at night,” he said, lying down and closing his eyes.
Rose stared for a few seconds, her face tight, before she left.
Maverick entered the house late at night. His mother, Eleanor, was in the living room waiting for him.
“Did you do it?” she asked immediately.
