Chapter 58 Kiss My Forehead
Chapter 58 Kiss My Forehead
Henry smiled after saying that, and his smile made me feel uneasy. Had something happened to those two while I was gone? Or maybe they were planning something?
"So, why did you ask me here?"
"You don't like it when I ask you to come to my office?"
"No, it's not like that. It's just that you rarely ask me to meet at the office. That's why I thought you might be planning something."
"You say that as if you're suspicious of me. Are you starting to feel uncomfortable?" Henry asked, his gestures starting to become intimidating.
"Henry, I think I should go home. I don't feel well."
"Do you have a fever? Does your throat hurt?" Henry touched my forehead, trying to check my temperature.
"I'm fine, I just—"
"You're warm, you have a fever. I'll take you to the doctor!"
"No, Henry! I'm fine. I'm just a little tired and have a cold. I just want to go home and rest," I said. Henry sighed and nodded slowly. I hoped he understood that I wasn't in the mood for sex today, because he would most likely ask me to.
"Okay, Jake will drive you home! I have some work to finish in a bit."
"It's okay, Jake doesn't need to drive me because I'm driving. I'll go home alone."
"No! I don't want you to go home alone with a fever! Jake, please take Amy to the clinic, and then take her home!"
"Okay!"
"But-"
"No ifs and buts! You hear me? I don't like being contradicted! Jake will take you to the clinic before taking you home!" Henry gave me an ultimatum that left me unable to argue.
I simply nodded slowly, letting out a heavy breath. I got up from the sofa and walked to the door, where Jake still hadn't moved from the front door.
He opened the door and let me out first before finally following behind me. I was unsteady, even though I hadn't felt this weak before entering Henry's office.
"Are you okay?" Jake asked. Dial immediately took my hand.
"Yes, I feel a bit feverish. I want to go home soon."
"Let's go to the clinic first, then I'll take you home!"
"I don't want to bother you, Jake! I can go by myself!"
"Absolutely not! Besides, you heard what Henry said earlier, right? He asked me to, so I can't argue with him."
"What if he doesn't ask you to?"
"I'll still take you! Whether he asks or not, I won't let you go home alone like this."
I opened my apartment door, feeling increasingly weak. Jake was still by my side, keeping me company even though I was already in my apartment. I wanted to change clothes and lie down in my warm bed.
"Thank you, Jake! You can go home now!"
"Is it okay for you to be home alone?"
"I'm fine, I'll go to bed right away."
"But you haven't had dinner yet, so you should eat something before taking your medicine and going to bed."
"My throat is a bit sore, and it might be hard to swallow. I think a glass of water will be enough, so don't worry. I can take care of myself."
"I'll make you some cream soup. Can you still swallow soft foods?"
"No, Jake! I don't want to bother you. You already took me to the hospital, and I'm already grateful. It's okay, I can handle it! When I wake up tomorrow, I'll be better," I said, my voice starting to crack. Jake asked me to sit on the sofa, while he knelt on the floor between my legs.
He gently touched my face with his hand, and I could feel the softness of his touch. I didn't know why I wanted to cry, but strangely, I didn't know why.
"It's okay, I'll be here with you, okay?" His voice sounded so soft and sincere.
"But-"
"Shhh...don't say anymore! You just need to rest and let me take care of everything, do you understand?"
I nodded slowly, my body feeling so weak and helpless. Jake picked me up and carried me to the bedroom. He lowered me onto the bed and helped me undress. He grabbed a nightgown from my closet and put it on me.
"Lie down! I'll go to the kitchen to make dinner!"
"But I don't think there's anything in the fridge to cook. It's okay, Jake. I can eat tomorrow morning when I'm feeling better."
"You don't have to worry about that! I can go shopping for a bit. Go to bed and get some rest!" He said, kissing my forehead.
Jake was so warm, his kisses so gentle. Just one kiss from him made me feel a little better.
Jake left, leaving me alone in the still, silent room. When he left, I immediately felt lonely, even though I'd asked him to let me rest alone. But now, I missed him.
I tried to wait for him while lying down, my body shivering, and the fever making my head feel even dizzier. I felt so scared, this was the first time I'd ever been alone. The silence and emptiness made my chest feel tight.
"Jake?" I should be calling Henry. The person I want to be near and with me right now should be Henry. But why is it Jake I'm thinking about, and what I need? Why not Henry?
"Amy? Amy, wake up!" I heard Jake's soft, faint voice. I struggled to open my eyes, which felt so heavy. As the light began to fill my vision, I saw Jake's calm face before me. He was looking at me with a sad look, as if he was worried about me.
"Jake?"
"How are you? Do you have a headache? I made some cream soup, come eat! I'll feed you!"
