Chapter 57 Brother Complex

Chapter 57 Brother Complex
I stared at my phone screen before picking up Henry's call. Since he returned on Tuesday, we'd met at the office and hadn't spoken. He greeted me as usual, which worried me because it was unusual for him not to contact me every time he returned from out of town.

Usually, I was the first person he called when he returned. He would have asked me to wait for him at the penthouse so we could meet up to relieve our longing. But now it was Wednesday afternoon, and I was about to head home.

"Hello?" I said quietly, checking to make sure no one was nearby who might overhear my conversation with Henry.

"Are you still at the office?" He asked, as matter-of-factly as usual. His voice was far from warm, as if he were angry with me.

"Yes, I'm still at the office."

"Can you come to my office room now?"

"Now? You haven't come home yet?"

"Yes, come over now. I'm waiting for you!"

"Okay," I said. I felt uneasy. But I hoped he still didn't know about what I'd been doing with Keith, Leonidas, Xavier, and Aiden while he wasn't there.

After making sure most of my coworkers had gone home, I cautiously entered Henry's office.

Knock...knock...knock...

"Mr. Henry, may I come in?" I asked, knocking on his office door.

A few moments later, the door opened, and it was Jake. I was a little surprised to see him there too. I started to feel anxious, wondering if Jake had already told Henry about my affair.

Jake and I looked at each other. Unlike me, who was shocked and slightly wide-eyed, Jake looked cool and calm. I really hoped he hadn't said anything yet, because if he had told Henry everything he knew, it would truly be the end of my relationship with Henry.

It's impossible for Henry to forgive me for what I did, because even if he let me do it with Jake, he definitely wouldn't be able to accept me having sex with other men too. I'm sure he wouldn't be that crazy.

In his office, Henry sat on the sofa in a relaxed pose, taking off his jacket and wearing only his work shirt and tie. He looked at me with a faint smile that made me feel a little uncomfortable.

"Why did you ask me to come here?" I asked, suppressing the unease he probably sensed.

"Sit down! Don't you miss your boyfriend?" He asked, motioning for me to sit beside him.

I approached him and sat down right next to him. Henry put his arm around my shoulders, touching my face before kissing me on the lips. For some reason, I couldn't enjoy his kiss as much as usual. I sensed a different atmosphere.

He broke the kiss after realizing I wasn't enjoying it. Henry gave me a cold look that made me realize I'd made a mistake.

"What's wrong, honey? Why do you look so nervous? Is something bothering you?"

"No! It's nothing, I'm just feeling a little tired. I had a lot of work today, so—"

"Is that so? So, why didn't you welcome me home last night? Didn't I tell you I'd be back on Tuesday?"

"I-I forgot. I'm so sorry. I totally forgot you were coming home on Tuesday!" Damn, I totally forgot Henry was coming home yesterday. Now I must look like a woman who doesn't care about her boyfriend.

I glanced at Jake, who was still standing at the door, still unmoved. As I recall, he told me he would keep the crazy party I threw at Xavier's a secret. I really hope he didn't mess things up by telling Henry.

"Is that so?" Henry asked, raising an eyebrow. He was clearly skeptical of my confession.

"Yes, I was really busy yesterday that I forgot something this important. I'm really sorry, honey!"

"Okay, I hope you didn't forget it on purpose. Let's just forget about it. Last night, Jake was the one who welcomed me home, and I guess it wasn't that bad, my cousin and I spent time together. But of course, it would have been so much more fun if you were there, honey!" Henry said, his voice softening and calming. Just like his emotions that change so quickly.

I smiled awkwardly because I still couldn't fully grasp the meaning of her statement that Jake had visited her at her house last night and that they'd spent time together. Although it sounded simple, I somehow felt a little uneasy.

"Thank goodness you have Jake, right? I think he's much more suitable to be with you than I am."

"What are you saying, honey?"

"Well, I think Jake has some kind of brother complex that makes him so obsessed with you, his cousin. Don't you, Jake?" I said with an awkward laugh. I couldn't explain what their relationship was like, and the term 'brother complex' was just a random conclusion I'd come up with to avoid the cold, cruel glare Jake would give me if I upset him.

"Hahaha...brother complex, huh? So you think Jake has some kind of brother complex, is that it?" Henry laughed at the term I'd given his extremely possessive and jealous cousin.

"Yeah, I think so."

"Hmm... maybe you're right, but Jake seems to be on the extreme end of things."
