Chapter 339 She Is a Very, Very Good Person
Chapter 343 Silent Apology
Rachel gently shook her head: "Amy, you don't need to do this. What I want is just the part my father left behind, what rightfully belonged to me and my mother. That's what we deserve. Beyond that, everything else in the York family—whether it's what Yale earned through his own business later or anything else—has nothing to do with me, and even less to do with you. You don't owe me anything."
"No!" Amy was unusually insistent, tears welling up again. "I have York family blood running through my veins! I'm responsible for what my parents did! Rachel, let me repay you, otherwise I'll feel guilty for the rest of my life. I'll feel like everything I've enjoyed was built on your suffering."
Rachel held her cold hands, gripping them a bit tighter, looking directly at her: "Amy, listen to me. You are you, they are they. Their sins are theirs to bear—the law will judge them, and so will fate. But you're an independent person with your own life and future. I don't need your compensation, and I definitely don't need you to carry a burden that isn't yours for the rest of your life."
Rachel paused, her tone softening but becoming more serious: "If you really feel uneasy, then just live well, live as yourself, be an honest, kind, and valuable person. That's the best way to repay me and my mother. As for the York family's assets, what's rightfully mine, I'll take back. What isn't mine, I won't take a single cent. Your share, as the York family's daughter, is rightfully yours. No matter where it came from, it's yours now. Don't talk about repaying with interest anymore—I won't accept it."
Amy stared at Rachel blankly, tears silently streaming down her face.
Amy had never felt so clearly the powerful yet embracing strength that Rachel possessed.
It wasn't condescending charity, but true protection and guidance based on principles and family love.
"Rachel." She threw herself into Rachel's arms again, sobbing uncontrollably.
Rachel gently patted her back, but her gaze turned once more toward the ICU.
Yale and Anna's terrible condition was probably related to Rachel.
But Rachel wouldn't say anything about it.
She could only silently apologize in her heart to Amy, who was innocently caught up in all this.
Then, she would use more concrete actions in the future to protect Amy as much as possible and help her grow.
The court's verdict finally came down.
Yale was sentenced to twenty-five years in prison for multiple charges including intentional assault, embezzlement, and misappropriation of funds.
The massive fines and civil compensation nearly emptied his already frozen and investigated assets.
Yale, once so successful, was now in prison, facing a long remainder of his life behind bars.
At the same time, with Brandon's team's strong push and the legal facts, the civil portion regarding Frederick's estate inheritance was also settled.
The court determined that Yale's embezzlement of Frederick's estate was clear and well-evidenced, ordering most of his assets to be returned to the legal heirs Rachel and her mother Elodie.
After calculation and division, Rachel and Elodie recovered what rightfully belonged to them, an amount far exceeding their initial expectations.
The remaining parts of the York Group were liquidated, with some quality assets acquired and integrated by Original Aspiration, and the rest disposed of according to law.
After several rounds of development, Original Aspiration was no longer just a clothing brand, but an emerging small conglomerate.
As for the York Mansion, after appraisal, Rachel chose not to reclaim it for personal use but instead commissioned agents to sell it. Part of the proceeds was donated to charity, and part was set aside as reserve funds for Elodie's future living expenses.
Everything seemed to be moving toward both an ending and a new beginning.
City A First Prison, visiting room.
The metal tables and chairs were cold, the air filled with an oppressive atmosphere.
Amy sat outside the glass partition, looking at the man across from her—her father, Yale.
In just a few months, Yale seemed to have aged twenty years. His back was somewhat hunched, the airs he once deliberately maintained completely gone, leaving only the dejection of someone whose spirit had been drained.
"Amy, you came to see me..." Yale's voice was hoarse and dry. He tried to force a smile, but it looked worse than crying. "Your mother, how is she?"
"Still recovering. She can recognize people, but she can't talk or walk. She needs constant care." Amy's tone was calm, revealing little emotion.
She had brought Anna's latest photo and showed it through the glass.
In the photo, Anna sat in a wheelchair, her gaze vacant, completely different from before.
Yale looked at the photo, his lips trembling, his eyes filled with both resentment and regret, but soon covered by another, stronger emotion.
He suddenly looked up, emotionally agitated:
"Amy! You're my daughter! You have to believe me! I was framed! It was Rachel! She did this to me!"
Amy's brow furrowed slightly as she looked at him quietly, saying nothing.
Yale thought she was wavering and became even more agitated, leaning forward, almost pressing against the glass: "It's true! She hates me! Hates me for taking her family's assets! She and Brandon worked together to set me up! Pushed me into a corner!
"And that night, that night I was wrong, I'd been drinking, I was under pressure, but Anna, she was having an affair! She and that homewrecker were scheming to get the family's money! I just lost my head for a moment!
"But how could I have been so violent? Someone must have tampered with something! Drugged me! Made me lose my mind! Yes! That must be it! It was Rachel! She wanted me dead! Wanted both Anna and me to suffer! So she could take everything from the York family!"
Yale's voice grew louder and more incoherent, his facial muscles twisted, his eyes bloodshot and filled with paranoid light.
In a sense, his guess had some merit.
Unfortunately, Yale guessed the wrong mastermind. He would never imagine that the one who harmed him was Graham, an old acquaintance he hadn't seen in years, and the reason was actually to avenge Frederick.
Watching Yale like this, the last ripple in Amy's heart caused by blood ties completely settled, leaving only cold disappointment and complete detachment.
Amy thought of Rachel's care, understanding, and unreserved support these past days; thought of Anna's breakdown when lucid, unable to face her current situation; and also thought of the long-standing conflicts and scheming between Anna and Yale that she had personally witnessed.
"Dad," Amy spoke, her tone unprecedentedly cold, "the judge ruled based on evidence. Your embezzlement of Frederick's estate—the evidence is solid. You injured Mom—that's also a fact. There were eyewitnesses at the scene, and Mom's injury assessment. As for the drugging and framing you mentioned..."
Amy shook her head, even more disappointed in Yale who dared to act but not take responsibility. "If Rachel wanted the York family's assets, she could have gotten them back through legal channels long ago. Mr. Saunders has plenty of ways to ruin your reputation—he wouldn't need to use this kind of method. Rachel would never hurt my mother to achieve her goals, because she knows that would cause me pain."
"She's faking it! She's being hypocritical! She's fooled you!" Yale growled.
