83- Closing
Rebeca
Sebastian left the mansion in the early evening with the intention of ending the conflict once and for all. When I heard that Anastasia had been killed on her brother's orders, I was genuinely surprised; apparently, they were just using each other to achieve their goals. Dante was with him and had a determined look on his face, he just nodded and left with his brother. As I'm pregnant, I couldn't go along and I missed out on all the fun.
I really wanted to catch the son of a bitch, but I have priorities.
I stroked my belly and smiled. I've been doing that a lot lately. Now I'm more used to the idea of being a mother, although it's still a bit unreal.
I lay down to sleep after talking briefly to Ward, who was coordinating the operation remotely and passing on the necessary information. I was a little worried about Sebastian, as he is always impetuous and usually not at all careful, although he had promised me he wouldn't get hurt, you never know what might happen and that worried me. When I heard that he was fine and that everything was going according to plan, I breathed a sigh of relief and went to sleep. I woke up to very familiar little noises, not loud enough to frighten me, but very familiar and as I was a light sleeper, it was easy to wake up.
They're gunshots with a silencer.
It sounds like there are strangers in the house. How the hell did they get in?
I got up hastily, grabbed the pistol from the drawer, gathered the pillows and made it look like I was lying in bed and hid in a place overlooking the door, but covered enough so that someone else wouldn't see me.
The door opened slowly and a dark figure entered silently and went straight for the bed, without pulling back the sheet, he threw knife blows in quick succession and I didn't wait for him to notice the absence of blood, I aimed and fired even in the dim light. The man immediately fell onto the bed holding his arm and I ran over and shot him in both hands, he couldn't grab anything that way, I also shot him in the legs so he wouldn't try to run away.
The man groaned in pain and I approached cautiously.
\- Who sent you? - I asked.
\- Fuck you, bitch. - he curses.
I bend down and pick up the knife he was holding and slice right through the tendons in his arms, turning them into useless parts.
\- How many of you? And you'd better answer, or you'll wish you were dead with what I'm going to do to you. - I warn you.
The man screams and I stuff a piece of sheet into his mouth, completely suffocating his suffering. Knowing that he doesn't intend to speak, I make a decision, quickly grab the sheet and throw it over him, close the bedroom door and go to my closet, open one of the drawers and take out a sniper rifle and night vision goggles.
I don't know where Ward might be right now and whether he's okay or not, but I need to help in some way and if the enemy is large in number, it could be a difficult problem to solve.
I assembled the gun with great skill and headed for the balcony, it was cold, so I went back inside and grabbed a coat, thanks to the garden lights, I didn't need my glasses and started shooting at the men in similar clothing to the one who attacked me. I took down the targets in quick succession, most of Sebastian's men had been taken by surprise and were dead and the few that were left ran into the house.
When the garden was clear, I ran back into the bedroom and out into the corridor with redoubled caution. On my way to the office, I encountered men here and there, I didn't ask, I simply shot them in the head and moved on with the utmost care, when I ran out of ammunition, I picked up the fallen pistols and moved on. It took me longer than I expected to get there and when I opened the door, I found Ward lying behind the desk, I ran to him hoping he was alive, there was also another man inside the office, this one dead, his pupils dilated and his gaze empty, staring at me from a corner, a bullet hole in his forehead. I went to Ward and although he was unconscious, he was alive, but needed urgent care, the problem is that I'm alone and I don't know if there's anyone else lurking in the corridors. Ward's cell phone had no signal and mine was in his room, I can't waste time like this.
I tapped Ward on the cheek and he opened his eyes a little.
\- Keep your eyes open, Ward. - I say firmly and he just nods.
I opened his shirt to see where he was hurt and found a wound on his shoulder and another on his thigh. With his own shirt, I did my best to stop the bleeding and got up in search of something to help with the pain. I grabbed a bottle of tequila from the office and poured it on his wounds, but I didn't give it to him to drink, he needed to stay awake. He's too big and I can't move him anywhere else on my own.
I'm covered in his blood and that of other people. The house is silent and you can't hear any more noise, I think all the men are gone or dead. I was very lucky, if I had woken up a minute later, I could be dead now.
I decided to venture outside the office and carefully moved back to my room, if I can get my cell phone, I'm sure Sebastian will come for me as soon as possible, it's almost morning and my white shirt is now crimson, the smell of blood accompanies me.
I opened the door slowly and just as I was about to go in, I noticed that the sheets weren't the way I'd left them and I pointed the gun at the figure by the bed, he did the same, but then lowered it.
\- Rebeca? - calls out and I recognize Sebastian's voice immediately.
I dropped the gun and ran towards him.
And to think I almost shot him.
\- Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere? - he asks, groping around my body in search of any injuries.
\- I'm fine, I don't have any scratches and this isn't my blood. But you have to help me, Ward isn't well at all and he needs help right now. - I say hurriedly.
As we moved with Ward, I briefly reported what had happened and just as I started to take care of Ward and Vincent, whom Sebastian had brought along, a medical team showed up and took charge. Walter and Dante were with them and I told them again what had happened. I sat tiredly on my husband's lap and sighed with relief that I had come out of it in one piece.
It was close, but it was over.
***
Months have passed since that day, Vincent and Ward managed to survive thanks to the speed of the doctors, Sebastian controlled the whole situation and managed to hush up the case so that ordinary civilians wouldn't suspect anything, Dante took over the leadership of the maternal family, or what was left of it and promised not to interfere in our lives and that was the start of a new relationship between the brothers, although they weren't close, there seems to be a silent truce between the two and that's enough. I haven't seen Vladimir since the day he planted the bomb in my house, he left the country the next day with no return date, I haven't been able to contact him either, which is a shame. My family is currently living in the mansion with us and actively cooperates with Sebastian to expand the business and Ben helps me with some issues that I can no longer take care of. Strangely, after the sixth month, my belly grew at breakneck speed and finally everyone was convinced that there really was a baby. My parents were overjoyed at the news of their new grandchild's arrival and Sebastian couldn't have been happier.
I've discovered a much more affectionate side to him and he never tires of stroking my round belly.
\- I love the way you smell. - He kisses my neck and strokes my huge belly.
I smiled and was about to reply when I felt a liquid trickle down my legs. We knew what it was, Sebastian stared at me wide-eyed and jumped up at the same moment.
\- We have to go to the hospital. - he said.
I tried to get up, but I felt a sharp pain and closed my eyes.
What the hell?
Are these really early contractions? How can it hurt so much if it's only just beginning?
Within a few minutes, the uncomfortable twinges turned into terrible pains and I thought I was being ripped in half. With every moan, Sebastian hurried faster and almost ran over some people on the way to the hospital. I was sweating profusely and the pain was tearing me apart. At the hospital door, as I was about to enter, I began to feel the urge to push, an instinct telling me so.
\- Damn! He's going to be born now! - I screamed and Sebastian made a fuss, the nurses took me inside and I was breathing fast with one wave of pain after another and as soon as I was laid down on a bed, I heard everyone running around, at some point Amelia appeared and serenely encouraged me to push with all my might, I did as she asked and pushed as if my life depended on it, I lost track of time and just moaned, breathed and pushed until a loud cry filled the room and I felt a huge relief in my chest.
My son was born.
\- That was too fast. - I mumble weakly as Amelia places the baby on top of me and smiles.
\- Consider yourself lucky for that. - she says.
I don't understand what she's saying, nor do I care, my eyes are on the baby and I feel my chest warm and filled with a love as vast and full as I've ever felt before.
I was taken to a room and soon Sebastian was by my side, he was nervous, since he hadn't had the opportunity to accompany the birth, there just wasn't time, he said it was too fast, it hadn't even been an hour since the bag burst, even though for me it was an eternity.
When the nurse brought the baby in, Sebastian picked him up carefully and a little clumsily, approached me and showed me his serene little face. I smiled with emotion and put my finger, which he held firmly in his little hand.
\- Our son, Gael. - Sebastian said.
\- Yes, our greatest joy. - I agree.
\- Thank you for making me so happy. I love you, Rebeca. - He professes it and I can only thank him, even though I considered him an enemy, I never stopped loving him.
He was always my beloved enemy, until the moment he proved to be my true love.
Our happiness has only just begun, we have a lifetime ahead of us.
THE END.
