74- Harmless lies

Rebeca

I woke up the next day to the annoying sound of a cell phone ringing, the sun was already high in the sky and to my surprise, Sebastian was still sleeping next to me. From what I'd heard from Walter and Ward, Sebastian had always slept very little and very badly, a direct effect of never being able to trust anyone enough and not even being able to sleep peacefully in his own home. I'm the first woman to have entered Sebastian's room and slept in the same bed as him, although I didn't let it show when we first met, since he never ordered me to leave, on the contrary, in some cases he was the first to ask me to stay and sleep with him. I noticed that he started sleeping much better after we got married, which means that he trusts me completely, even without knowing me properly, he put all his trust in me from the very first moment, I was the only one who distrusted him at all times and that embarrasses me a little, but I always preferred to sin by excess than by lack, besides, he was a strange and dangerous man, I couldn't afford to rest peacefully by his side, even though I slept, I always tried to stay alert to anything, the slightest noise.

I'm glad to see him calm like that, even in the current scenario.

\- Damn cell phone, it never seems to stop ringing. - I grumble that I can't spend any more time sleeping peacefully next to Sebastian, who seems so adorable right now.

I giggle like a teenager. What's so adorable about a big, muscular, tattooed man with a few scars and a dangerous appearance? I don't know, but in my eyes, he looks extremely adorable.

It can only be love.

The cell phone stopped ringing at some point and I happily sighed and prepared to return to dreamland cradled in Sebastian's arms, but the moment I closed my eyes, the damn thing started ringing again insistently and so that Sebastian wouldn't wake up, I decided to get up and go after the annoying sound myself. I got up slowly and made my way to the living room, where the device was lying on the sofa. I saw Ward's name on the display and realized that it must be something important.

\- Ward? - I pick up.

\- Oh, Rebecca. Where's Sebastian? - He asks.

\- Sleeping. Any news? - I ask, interested in finding out the current progression of the situation.

\- Well, we have some news, but nothing big. - he says.

\- Can you tell me, or is it just something for Sebastian's ears? - I ask.

\- No, not at all. What we know so far is that the fire started in the wing where Anastasia lived with her son and any visitors who came to the mansion. There's also a suspicion that it wasn't accidental but planned. - says.

Great, just what I wanted to know.

\- Do you think Anastasia had something to do with it? - I ask, trying to sound worried.

\- It's possible, since she left this house against her will. Perhaps it was a way of getting even and she would have succeeded if it hadn't been for you. - she says sincerely.

Yes, I know what I've done and I shouldn't lie to these people, they're always by Sebastian's side at all times and it's very important to have their trust, however, I thought it prudent to keep the Graham brothers away from this situation, the fewer people who know about it the better and the more truthful my performance becomes.

Sorry, Ward.

\- Do you need Sebastian to come over? - I ask.

\- No. I was just calling to inform you of the suspicions and to let you know that an investigation will be conducted at Anastasia's new home. - he says.

I try to control the smile that threatens to spread.

Everything is going according to plan and I couldn't be happier. It's perfect.

\- Do this, accompany the police and let them look everywhere, if Anastasia did this, she can't get away with it this time. This has threatened the lives of many people and I won't allow her to behave like this any longer. - I say seriously.

\- Don't worry, I'll do everything as you wish. As soon as I have any more news, I'll call you to let you know. - you say.

\- All right, Ward. And if you need to rest, ask Walter to help, you've worked too hard since the night, rest as soon as possible. - I say.

There's a moment of silence on the other end of the line and for a few seconds, I think the call has dropped, I even glance at the screen to make sure, but he's still on the line and he's quiet for some reason.

\- Yes, ma'am. Thank you for your consideration. - he finally says and then hangs up.

\- What did Ward say? - Sebastian's raspy voice startles me and I jump a little.

\- Damn, you scared me. How long have you been there? - I ask.

\- Since the moment you shamelessly said you wouldn't allow Anastasia to hurt anyone else. - You come closer.

\- I don't see anything brazen in that, I meant it when I said it. - I say.

\- Yes, I believe you. However, it was you who started the fire. I'm worried about how well you can fake it and for how long. - kiss my hair.

\- Don't worry, it'll be over sooner than you think. And if I start lying wildly, don't worry. - warning.

When you're acting in a situation, the most common thing is to improvise in the event of something unforeseen, as always, I've thought of all the possible situations where I need to improvise for whatever reason, although I want to get this over with as quickly as possible, I don't see a problem with adding another layer of lies to this set-up, as long as I can remember all the aspects and don't get caught lying, everything will be fine.

\- All right, I should have expected that from you. - you say.

After an invigorating hot shower, I find some clothes for myself, I find out that Sebastian has prepared this apartment in case the situation became unbearable in the house and I wanted to leave, so it contains everything I need and then some, which makes me extremely happy, apparently Sebastian's biggest concern has always been my well-being and that makes me happy. I never have to worry about anything because he's always looking after my every need, even when I don't need him he's there.

We went out to find somewhere to eat, it was almost lunchtime and we opted to have lunch all at once. We found a lively restaurant, where we ordered a small lunch and ate like an ordinary couple, chatting about amenities, unimportant things and ignoring any real situation that was happening in our lives at the moment. For a while, I felt like any other woman walking around with an attentive husband and that made me very happy and sure of my choice to stay by Sebastian's side.

When we'd finished lunch and Sebastian had paid the bill, we returned to our reality and made our way to Anastasia's new house, it wasn't as opulent as the mansion, but it's certainly a nice place too, spacious, airy and beautiful, it's unfortunate that she won't be staying here long enough, I need to urge her family to make a move, as soon as they make the first move, we can finally start knocking down the pieces one by one, like in a game of chess, I've already got all the moves covered, no matter what they try, I'm in front and I can fight anything and the moment they get careless because of desperation, Checkmate, their heads will be mine.
