Adeline's profile was nearly ten pages long.
Jasper looked at it for a long time but still couldn't find any flaws.
Feeling somewhat annoyed, he got up and went to the bathroom.
"Alright, you take care of yourself over there."
As soon as he stepped into the bathroom, he heard a crisp child's voice. Jasper stopped washing his hands. The company had a strict policy of not allowing children at work.
Why would there be a child in the office at this time?
The man furrowed his brow and followed the sound. He eventually found that the sound was coming from a cubicle.
Just as he approached the cubicle door, before he had a chance to knock, the door swung open with a loud bang and hit him in the forehead.
"Ouch!"
Jasper instinctively covered his forehead.
Bennett walked out of the cubicle, a hint of cunning in his eyes.
The next second, he looked apologetically at Jasper and said, "Sorry, sorry! I didn't know there was someone outside, so I opened the door! I'm sorry!"
Jasper removed his hand from his forehead and glanced down at the little person who was barely taller than his knee.
Although he was short in stature, his features were delicate, and at such a young age, he exuded an undeniable air of dignity.
He had never had a good impression of children before.
But at this moment, as he looked at this little person in front of him, realizing that he should be about the same age as Lauren, he couldn't bring himself to speak harshly.
The man furrowed his brow, his voice icy, "What are you doing here?"
"That's a strange question to ask," Bennett shrugged. "I came to the bathroom... of course, to pee."
He called it taking a leak, but he wasn't really here for that. He deliberately waited here when he saw Jasper come out of the office.
He wanted to bump into him! Who let his mistress bully Lauren!
Jasper furrowed his brows, his voice even colder, "I mean, why are you in this building? Who are your parents? Where are they?"
The seriousness in the man's expression made Bennett pout, tears starting to fall.
"My dad is dead... my mom is working hard to support my little sister... she's having a tough time..."
Jasper took a deep breath and raised his hand to stop Bennett.
"Since your parents are not here, why are you here?"
"I'm here with my aunt," said Bennett as he pouted. "My aunt is here for business."
Jasper's tightly furrowed brow slightly relaxed. Bennett glanced from the corner of his eye at the serious face of Jasper.
"It's all my dad's fault for dying so early! If he had lived a few more years, my mom wouldn't be in this situation today!" He cried louder and his words criticizing his father became harsher.
Jasper felt uncomfortable in his heart when he heard the boy curse his father.
Maybe it was because he recognized Lauren as his daughter, he became more compassionate towards children. The man squatted down and gently patted Bennett's back.
"The dead cannot be brought back to life. We can only mourn the loss."
Bennett forced back a smile and wiped his tears with his hand.
"You're right, the dead cannot be brought back to life. I hope my heartless dad will be a good person in his next life!" This child was becoming more outrageous.
Jasper stood up. "It's better for children not to discuss adult matters."
"Okay." Bennett stopped crying obediently. He took a deep breath and turned to leave the restroom.
"Bennett!" Violet had been waiting outside the restroom for a long time. When she saw the little guy come out, she waved excitedly, "Over here!"
Just as she spoke, she caught sight of a tall and cold man following behind the little guy.
That was... Jasper? Violet's body stiffened slightly.
"My aunt is waiting for me. Uncle, I'll be leaving now!" Bennett smiled and bid farewell to Jasper, then ran over to Violet.
"The Foster Group does not allow children to come to work."
Just as Violet was about to pull Bennett to escape, she heard the indifferent voice of the man behind her, "Although you are not an employee of the Foster Group, please try not to bring children with you next time you come." After the man finished speaking, he turned and walked away. Bennett silently rolled his eyes at his retreating figure.
Scoffing at him, Violet was startled by his audacious move. She quickly pulled Bennett aside, lowering her voice, "How did you end up coming out with him?"
"Of course, we went to the restroom together."
Violet raised her hand and tapped his head, "You know I'm not asking about that."
Taking a deep breath, she grabbed Bennett and strode into the elevator, "Let me tell you, that was Jasper! The wealthiest man in Denver! He owns this entire building! Not only is he rich, but he's also dangerous. If we mess with him, we won't be able to survive in Denver! Stay away from him in the future!"
Bennett nodded, "Got it."
Originally, she didn't intend to get close to him.
...
During dinner, Lauren, wearing a pink dress, blinked her watery eyes and asked softly.
"Daddy, doesn’t Auntie cook exceptionally delicious food?"
"It's alright."
Jasper lowered his head, frowning as he ate, "It tastes somewhat familiar."
It tasted like the food Adeline used to cook back then.
Clearly, this Adeline had done her homework to get close to him.
The man looked up, glancing coldly at Adeline who was standing beside him, his voice indifferent, "Did anything happen today?"
"Yes," Adeline nodded, speaking frankly, "This afternoon, when I was buying groceries, I ran into Miss Molly. Miss Collins approached me and asked if I... had improper intentions towards Mr. Foster."
As she spoke, she lifted her head, looking earnestly at Jasper, "I feel that Miss Collins has a deep prejudice against me. In order to not affect the relationship between you and Miss Collins, I propose that I come here to take care of Miss Lauren during the day, and then return home at night."
She lifted her head, staring intently at Jasper, "Is that alright?"
She doesn't live here, so she'll have spare time to look after Bennett.
Adeline wanted to take care of Bennett not because he was too helpless to take care of himself.
Rather, she felt that Bennett's mind was too active, and if she didn't keep an eye on him, he might do something outrageous.
"You don't have to," Jasper elegantly picked up his spoon, eating leisurely as he casually replied, "She doesn't have a say in who I let stay here."
Adeline smiled, "But isn't Miss Collins your fiancée? Mr. Foster, there's something I don't understand. According to the news, you and Miss Collins have been engaged for over five years. Why, after more than five years, have you neither married Miss Collins nor let her move in?"
"Do you still love Adeline?"
