Chapter 265 Hypnosis
Chapter 265 Hypnosis
When Lyra and Ryker returned to the clinic and the nurse allowed them into Rex's room, Lyra almost cried.
The room was a mess.
Rex was sitting cross-legged in the center of the mattress, her hair tangled and falling over her face like a veil.
She was clutching a torn piece of leather from a destroyed book, her fingers scratching repetitive circles into the rough material. Her silver eyes were wide, glassy, and completely unfocused.
"I have to find it," Rex muttered and looked at the torn book, her eyes twitching.
“Rex?" Lyra called out carefully as she stepped in with Ryker right beside her protectively.
"The answer is in the books, I have to find it or he will never wake up from the ground. The cure... the cure has to be written in the books,” Rex kept rambling on.
Lyra sat on the edge of the chair. "Hey, Rex. Look at me. It's Lyra. We came to tell you some good news. The ritual worked, and I'm going to have a baby, Rex. The pack is going to have an heir."
Rex stopped her scratching fingers for a second.
Her head snapped toward Lyra and a smile broke across her dry lips. "A baby... a little wolf for the IronFangs. That’s nice. That’s very beautiful for the pack line. But I have to find the cure for him! For him! The pages are burning, Lyra! I have to find the cure for him!"
She began to thrash her limbs against the sheets again.
Ryker stepped forward protectively and made sure Lyra was far away from her grasp.
With his arms crossed over his chest, he watched her with a frustrated scowl. "Rex, stop it. Who is 'him'? Give us a name, or the doctor is going to keep you sedated."
"He doesn't have a name!" Rex screamed back. "He just holds the key! Let me go back to the archives!"
That was the exact moment the doctor stepped in and saw them.
"You're back?” He asked.
Lyra nodded, "we came to check on Rex. She's not improving, I see.”
The doctor nodded and then sighed.
"Alpha, Luna, please let's speak alone in the hallway for a moment," the doctor said softly. "We just finished the secondary brain-wave panel in the lab, and the results are very alarming."
Ryker and Lyra followed the doctor out into the quiet corridor, leaving Rex to chat inside alone.
"What do the results say, doctor?" Lyra asked quickly, her fingers nervously gripping Ryker’s. "Is it a curse from the witch village? Did Sylvester pass the infection to her before he escaped?"
"No, Luna," the doctor stated firmly, shaking his head as he held up the sheet. "There's no trace of foreign witch magic or blood toxins in her spinal fluids. In fact, this isn't an infection or madness like I thought.”
Lyra frowned, "then what is it? And how can we help her?”
The doctor sighed, "It looks exactly like a deep hypnosis that Rex is under right now."
Ryker’s eyes narrowed. "Hypnosis? Our wolves have a strong mental shield, doctor. A basic human trick cannot breach her like that."
"This isn't a basic trick, Alpha," the doctor explained. "This is a specialized neural block. It was placed directly into her subconscious by someone who knows exactly how to manipulate a wolf’s mind. Her mind is fighting against a direct command that she cannot physically fulfill, which is why she’s throwing these violent tantrums and talking about a cure. And the only way to free her from this mental cage is the exact person who placed her under it in the first place. If that person doesn't speak the release phrase, her mind might never recover anymore.”
“What?!" Lyra gasped, “we have to help her."
"And quickly,” the doctor added, "from all my study, she only has a week."
"But who could have done this?" Lyra asked, her voice shaking as she looked through the glass window at Rex’s shivering frame. "Sylvester was locked in prison. None of this makes sense, who had that kind of intent towards Rex?"
While they were standing in the corridor trying to figure out what to do, a young pack maid named Maya stepped into the hallway.
She was wearing a simple grey service apron and she looked nervous as she stared at the doctor and then Lyra and Ryker.
"Alpha... Luna..." Maya whispered, her voice trembling so violently she could barely articulate the words.
“What's wrong?" Lyra asked softly.
She took three slow, hesitant steps toward them, then dropped onto her knees on the tile floor, her head bowing low in submission. "Please... I am so sorry. I have something to say. I’ve been terrified to speak up because of Commander Dax's guards, but I cannot sit in the kitchen and watch the library girl die."
Ryker stepped forward as he looked down at the kneeling servant. "Stand up, Maya. What are you doing down here? What do you know about Rex?"
Maya didn't stand up. "It happened three nights ago, Alpha! While you and the Luna were away in the human town. I was assigned to serve her dinner because Rex was working overnight."
She was shaking as she continued. "I reached the library, but the handle was locked from the inside. When I looked through the small glass gap in the frame, I saw him.”
"Saw who?”
"It was your brother, Dax. He was standing right over her desk and he had a silver vanguard medallion swinging in front of her face. I couldn't hear anything he said but I'm sure she began to scream after that and then she slumped. I was so scared he would kill me if I screamed, so I ran back to the kitchen and stayed quiet!”
"Are you sure of what you're telling me?” Ryker asked, "you could get in big trouble if you're lying.”
Maya shook her head. "I swear on my life. I saw it, I saw him do it and then the next day, she went crazy and started speaking to herself. It was Dax, Alpha!Your own brother did this to her!"
