Chapter 60: Keep Going

As Sebastian arrived at the heart of the Moonlit pack territory, he was met with a scene of controlled chaos. Pack members moved with purpose, their faces drawn with worry as they worked tirelessly to help those affected by the contaminated water. There was a simmering panic in the air, but beneath it all, there was a sense of unity and determination that filled Sebastian with a profound sense of pride.

Enora stood at the center of it all, her commanding presence a beacon of strength amidst the turmoil. She directed the doctors and nurses with authority, her voice firm as she organized the efforts to treat those suffering from the effects of the wolfsbane poisoning. Sebastian felt a surge of admiration for her as he watched her work, her unwavering resolve a testament to her dedication to the pack. But as Sebastian approached her, a pang of guilt gnawed on his insides. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he had let Enora down, that he should have been there for her when she needed him most. He had been too preoccupied with Seth and his demands, too distracted by own worries to be there for Enora in her time of need.

“Enora.”, Sebastian called out, his voice hesitant as he approached her. “Are you okay?”

Enora turned to face him, her expression unreadable as she met his gaze. “I’m fine.”, she said curtly, her tone clipped as she turned back to her work. “We have more pressing matters to attend to right now.”

Sebastian felt a stab of hurt at Enora’s dismissive tone, his heart sinking in his chest as he realized just how much he had let her down. He opened his mouth to speak, to apologize for his absence, but the words caught in his throat as he watched Enora turn away from him, appearing too busy to entertain his questions. With a heavy sigh, Sebastian turned away from Enora, his shoulders slumped with defeat as he made his way over to Adam. His other mate stood nearby, his brow furrowed with worry as he surveyed the scene before them. “Adam.”, Sebastian said quietly, his voice tinged with regret. “What’s the status?”

Adam glanced up, his expression troubled as he met Sebastian’s gaze. “It’s bad.”, he said grimly. “We’ve already treated many pack members, but there are still more who need help. Enora’s doing her best to coordinate the efforts, but we’re stretched thin.”

Sebastian nodded, his heart heavy with guilt as he thought of Enora bearing the weight of the crisis on her shoulders. He knew that he needed to do something to help, to make amends for his absence.

“What can I do?”, Sebastian asked, his voice determined. “How can I help?”

“Warn the other Alphas, and get us more medical supplies, doctors and nurses.”, Adam answered with a slight sting in his voice.

Sebastian sighed and walked up to his office. He pulled out his phone and dialed the first number on his list, his heart pounding with urgency as he waited for the call to connect.

“Alpha Reynolds.”, came the voice on the other end of the line, gruff, and authoritative.

“Alpha Reynolds, this is Sebastian from the Moonlit pack.”, Sebastian began, his voice steady despite the turmoil raging within him. “We’ve discovered wolfsbane in our water supply. I’m calling to warn you to check your own water sources and take precautions.”

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line before Alpha Reynolds responded. “Thank you for letting me know.”, he said, his voice tight with concern. “I’ll have my pack members check our water supply immediately.”

Sebastian moved on to the next Alpha on his list, making call after call as he worked tirelessly to warn the neighboring packs about the danger they faced. With each call, his sense of urgency grew, his determination unwavering as he fought to protect not only his own pack but the entire werewolf community. After completing his round of calls, Sebastian turned his attention to the other task. He reached out to his contacts outside of the werewolf community to get necessary supplies and for assistance.

As he worked, Sebastian couldn’t shake the feeling of guilt that gnawed at him. Adam’s words echoed in his mind, a reminder of his failure to support Enora in her time of need. He knew that Adam was right; he should have been there for her, should have done more to help her find a pack doctor. The weight of his guilt threatened to overwhelm him, but Sebastian pushed it aside, focusing instead on the tasks at hand. He was determined to make things right, to prove to Enora and the rest of the pack that he was willing to do whatever it took to support them in their time of need.

Sebastian walked up to Adam. Adam regarded Sebastian for a moment, his expression thoughtful as he considered the best course of action. “We need to focus on cleaning the water supply and getting rid of the wolfsbane in it.”, he said finally, his voice tinged with concern. “If we don’t, more pack members could be affected.”

Sebastian nodded, his mind already racing to come up with ideas. “Do we have any leads on how the wolfsbane got into the water supply?”, he asked, his brow furrowed with worry.

Adam shook his head. “Not yet.”, he admitted, his tone grim. “But Mia’s been going over the footage from the security cameras. Maybe she’s found something.”

Sebastian’s heart sank at the thought of their security expert tirelessly poring over the footage, searching for any clue that might lead them to the culprit behind the poisoning. He knew that Mia was skilled at what she did, but he also knew that their enemy was cunning and elusive. It wouldn’t be easy to uncover their identity. Together, Sebastian and Adam made their way over to where Lucas and Mia were stood, their eyes fixed on the laptop screen as they reviewed the footage. As Sebastian approached, he could see the lines of exhaustion etched into Mia’s face, a testament to the long hours she had been helping out.

“Any luck?”, Adam asked, his voice hopeful as he joined Lucas and Mia around the laptop.

Mia sighed, her frustration evident as she shook her head. “Nothing.”, she admitted, her voice tinged with disappointment. “Whoever did this was careful. They knew how to avoid detection.”

Sebastian felt a surge of frustration rise within him as he watched the footage, his mind racing with the possibilities. He couldn’t understand why anyone would want to harm their pack, to put innocent lives at risk for their own twisted agenda. “We need to find them.”, Sebastian said firmly, his voice filled with determination. “We can’t let them get away with this.”

Lucas nodded in agreement, his expression grim as he turned to Sebastian. “I agree.”, he said, his voice tense with anger. “But right now, we need to focus on cleaning the water supply. We can deal with finding the culprit later.”

“I already called some experts that can help us with cleaning the water supply. They should be here shortly, because we can’t have no water.”, Sebastian said. Lucas was grateful that actions were already taken.

“Did you let Enora know that already?”, Lucas asked. Sebastian shook his head defeatedly.

“No, she was too focused on caring for the injured people.”, Sebastian said. It was not what he wanted to say, but it sounded better than the truth.

Lucas grinned. “She blew you off? She was quite angry that you didn’t pick up your phone and that dealing with this emergency was on us completely.”, he replied. Sebastian only nodded solemnly. His heart sank at Lucas’ words. He truly did want to make it right with her.

“I’ll go talk to her.”, Sebastian said determinedly, his voice tinged with resolve. “I will make things right.”

Lucas nodded in agreement, his expression sympathetic as he watched Sebastian make his way towards Enora. She glanced up as Sebastian approached, her expression guarded as she met his gaze. Sebastian swallowed hard, the weight of his guilt pressing down on him as he tried to find the right words to say. “Enora, I…”, Sebastian began, his voice faltering as he struggled to articulate his thoughts.

Enora regarded Sebastian for a moment but put her hand up to him. “Whatever this is, it can wait. We need to get through this crisis first.”

Sebastian felt a surge of disappointment wash over him at Enora’s response, but he knew she was right. They had more important matters to attend to, and he couldn’t let his own feelings get in the way of helping the pack. “I understand.”, he said quietly.
