Ariana’s POV
Lucas's eyes softened as he tried to explain. "The Black Moon Clan is a very dangerous place, and we need to keep you safe. Your mom and I will do everything we can to find the antidote and come back to you. I promise."
Elara wasn't convinced. She looked at me, her eyes pleading. "Mommy, can I please go with you?"
I knelt down beside her, brushing a strand of her hair away from her face. "Sweetheart," I said softly, "I wish you could come with us, but it's too risky. We don't want anything to happen to you."
She looked down, her disappointment palpable. Lucas, not one to give up easily, extended his pinky finger towards her. "How about this?" he suggested with a warm smile. "We make a pinky promise that I'll come back for you, and we'll have a big adventure together."
Elara's eyes lit up at the idea of a pinky promise. She wrapped her tiny finger around Lucas's, sealing the pact. "Okay," she said with a small smile, "but you have to come back, okay?"
He nodded solemnly. "I promise, my dear. I'll come back for you."
But Elara wasn't done yet. She turned to me with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Mommy," she said, her voice hopeful, "can I ask for one more thing?"
I raised an eyebrow, curious about her request. "What is it, sweetheart?"
She beamed at me. "I want a little brother!"
Lucas chuckled at her unexpected demand and looked at me, seeking my opinion. With my parents present, the situation was quite awkward, to say the least.
I couldn't help but laugh, though my heart ached with longing for another child. "Sweetie," I said gently, "we can't make a little brother for you right now. It's not that simple."
Elara's face fell, and I could see the disappointment in her eyes. Lucas, always one to bring light to any situation, patted her head affectionately. "How about this?" he suggested. "When we come back, we'll talk about it with Mommy, okay?"
Elara's eyes brightened, and she nodded enthusiastically. "Okay, Daddy!"
With that, we said our goodbyes, and Elara reluctantly stayed with my parents. It was a heart-wrenching separation, but we promised to return soon and fulfill her requests.
As Lucas and I set off for the Black Moon Clan, the weight of our mission hung heavy in the air. Time was of the essence, and we had to find the antidote for the wolf's poison within a week. The journey was fraught with danger, but we were determined to save my sister and reunite our family.
Along the way, we stopped at a small hotel, our last bit of comfort before entering the treacherous territory of the Black Moon Clan. We chose a room on one of the higher floors, hoping for a better view and a sense of security. As we opened the balcony window, a gentle breeze swept in, ruffling the curtains and causing the dimly lit room to come alive with movement.
I stepped out onto the balcony, the cool air brushing against my skin. The night sky stretched out before me, a canvas of stars that seemed to hold the secrets of the universe. I couldn't help but fall into contemplation, my thoughts filled with the upcoming struggle.
Lucas joined me on the balcony, his presence a comforting anchor in the midst of uncertainty. He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close. "We'll find the antidote," he whispered, his breath warm against my ear. "And we'll bring your sister back."
I leaned into his embrace, finding solace in his words. "I know we will," I replied, my voice filled with determination. "We won't give up until we do."
As we stood there, gazing at the night sky, I couldn't help but feel a sense of hope. The journey ahead would be perilous, but we were not alone.
But there's still something that worries me a lot, and that's my wolf. It seems to have encountered some issues.
Lucas
I noticed the change in Ariana's mood as we stood beside the windowsill of our hotel room. The gentle breeze ruffled her hair, and her eyes seemed distant, lost in thought. Something was bothering her, and I couldn't stand to see her like this. I approached her, gently placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey," I said softly, "what's on your mind?"
She turned to look at me, her expression a mix of worry and frustration. "It's the wolf," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "It's not fully awakening, and I'm afraid it's because of me."
I frowned, concerned about her distress. Over the past few days, she had made numerous attempts to call upon the wolf within her, but it had remained dormant. It was a stark contrast to the first time it had awakened, filled with joy and a strong desire for freedom, as if it had been sealed away for a long time. Now, it seemed to be slumbering again, and she couldn't help but blame herself for her ineffectiveness.
I reached out and gently cupped her cheek, my thumb brushing away a stray tear. "Hey," I reassured her, "it's not your fault. The wolf is a part of you, and it's not something you can control all the time."
She sighed, her shoulders sagging with the weight of her worry. "I just don't want it to resent me," she admitted, her voice filled with vulnerability. "It's a living being with its own desires and emotions."
I nodded, understanding her concern. The bond between Ariana and her wolf was unique and complex, and it was only natural for her to worry about its well-being. "We'll figure it out together," I promised. "You're not alone in this, and I'll be here to support you every step of the way."
