Ariana’s POV
The next morning, I groggily opened my eyes, the soft rays of sunlight filtering through the curtains casting a warm glow on the room. Beside me, Lucas, my beloved, stirred awake. We exchanged sleepy smiles, reveling in the intimacy of our shared morning. But that serene moment was shattered as I noticed my parents standing at the bedroom door, their expressions oddly peculiar.
My heart raced, and embarrassment washed over me like a tidal wave. I quickly pulled the sheets closer to my body, feeling my cheeks flush with heat. I exchanged a swift, alarmed glance with my partner, who, unlike me, seemed rather unfazed by the intrusion.
My father, a man of few words but a formidable presence, cleared his throat, breaking the awkward silence that hung in the room. "I see you two are finally awake," he said, his tone stern yet tinged with amusement. I wished the floor would swallow me whole.
My mother, sensing the tension, coughed lightly and gave my father an encouraging pat on the arm. She was always the more understanding one, capable of diffusing even the most uncomfortable situations. But this time, I feared her magic touch wouldn't be enough to undo the mess we found ourselves in.
Lucas, a charming and audacious character, decided to step in. He sat up in bed, his disheveled hair only adding to his devilish charm, and fixed my father with a confident gaze. "Good morning," he said, the smirk dancing at the corners of his lips making my heart skip a beat. "I hope you slept well."
I couldn't believe he was making small talk in a situation like this. I clutched the sheets tighter, mortified by the whole ordeal.
My father's gaze, however, remained unyielding. He was not one to be easily swayed by charm or wit. "It seems," he began, his voice dripping with subtle disapproval, "that someone in this room didn't get much sleep last night."
I wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear. My father's words were a not-so-subtle reminder of the indiscretions of the previous night. I knew exactly what he was referring to, and the memory of it made my cheeks burn even hotter.
Lucas, ever the master of diplomacy, cleared his throat and lowered his eyes, showing a rare sign of humility. "I apologize if our... activities... disturbed anyone," he said, his voice taking on a more sincere tone. "It won't happen again."
I couldn't believe my ears. He was apologizing, a concept that rarely seemed to exist in his vocabulary. Maybe my father's imposing presence was having an effect on him after all.
My mother, bless her heart, intervened once more, this time with a gentle smile. "Well," she began, "these things happen when young people are in love. We've all been there, haven't we?" She looked at my father, who nodded reluctantly, and then back at me with an encouraging smile.
I was grateful for my mother's attempt to ease the tension, but it did little to alleviate my embarrassment. I was well aware that my parents had a past, and I certainly didn't want to dwell on the thought of them being in situations similar to mine.
My father, however, was not one to let things slide so easily. He turned his gaze back to Lucas, his eyes narrowing in a way that sent shivers down my spine. "I hope you understand," he said, his voice carrying a warning tone, "that my daughter has recently expended a significant amount of energy. She should not be overexerting herself."
I could feel my face grow even hotter, and I wished I could disappear into thin air. My father's words were a not-so-subtle reminder of the very intimate activities Lucas and I had engaged in the previous day. The memory of it was still fresh in my mind, and I couldn't believe my parents were discussing it so openly.
Lucas, bless his audacious heart, remained unfazed by my father's warning. Instead, he turned his attention back to me, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Well," he said with a sly grin, "it seems I've been warned. I'll be sure to exercise restraint, my love."
I buried my face in my hands, mortified by his shamelessness. My parents were standing right there, and he was making light of the situation. I wanted to scold him, to tell him that this was not the time for his usual antics, but the words stuck in my throat.
My mother, seeing that the situation was spiraling into even more awkward territory, decided to step in once again. "I think we've had our morning entertainment," she said with a knowing smile. "How about we all have breakfast together?"
I nodded, grateful for any excuse to leave the room and put some distance between my parents and Lucas. I quickly got out of bed and began to search for my clothes, feeling the weight of my parents' eyes on me as I dressed.
As we made our way to the dining room, my mother chatted animatedly about mundane things, as if trying to erase the awkwardness that had settled over the morning. My father, on the other hand, remained quiet, his gaze occasionally flickering towards Lucas as if to remind him of the warning he had issued.
Throughout breakfast, I couldn't shake off the embarrassment that had settled over me like a dark cloud. I stole glances at Lucas, who seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the situation, his smile never fading. It was infuriating how he could remain so shameless in the face of my parents' disapproval.
After breakfast, my parents excused themselves, leaving Lucas and me alone in the dining room. I could feel his eyes on me, that mischievous glint never leaving his gaze. "Well," he said, leaning in closer, "that was an interesting start to the day, don't you think?"
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his audacity. "You have a knack for turning any situation into a spectacle," I replied, my tone a mix of annoyance and affection.
He chuckled, his laughter a warm melody that never failed to make my heart flutter. "Life's too short to be serious all the time," he said. "And besides, your parents seem to like me, even if your father did issue a warning."
I sighed, leaning in closer to him. "Just promise me you'll be more discreet in the future," I whispered, my lips brushing against his. "I don't think my heart can handle another morning like this."
He kissed me softly, his lips warm and reassuring. "I promise," he whispered back. "I'll be on my best behavior."
As I melted into his embrace, I couldn't help but smile. Lucas is really too bold.
