Chapter Thirty: The prophesy Unfolds

Chapter Thirty: The prophesy Unfolds

Seraphina POV

Going back to the castle had been Ronan's idea. According to him. It was the only place we could get help and stay out of trouble.

Dread filled me just from thinking of facing the king. My supposed uncle.

The last time I discovered my pictures. I had felt immense distrust. It was why I was willing to leave.

But now I’m returning to the same place again.

If Ronan had insisted that it was safe. It meant the other places were even more dangerous.

We had boarded a ride going to the castle. A kind stranger was helpful enough to let us.

The road was bumpy, and I was cuddled next to Ronan.

He had been quiet during our ride. I wonder if he was afraid of me. He had said he wasn’t.

But there was no way I would have attacked him, and he wouldn’t have felt fear.

I swallowed. So much for reuniting with him. I hated the air between us. The thick tension.

Especially when all I wanted to do was sink into his warmth.

“We are here.” The stranger noted that once we got to the castle.

I thanked him as we made our way into the castle halls.

The guards stopped us from entering. But when they recognized Ronan, they did let us in.

We now stood by the guest living room, waiting for the king.

The same silence hovered over us, and I was growing immensely sick of it.

“Are you angry with me?” I voiced out before I could stop myself.

“What. No.” He seemed surprised that I would even ask.

“Then why are you so quiet?”

“I’m just struggling to process that Kyros is dead. Feels like there’s more to it.”

“You saw his lifeless form. What more proof do you need?”

“I don’t know. I just can’t shake the fact that something is about to happen.”

At the last sentence, his eyes stayed too long on mine. Causing chills to crawl up my arms.

I swallowed.

What had he seen? What had I done? Was that causing him to act this way?

Did he hate me now? Does he see me as a monster?

My heart tugged painfully.

“Seraphina.” The king's voice brought me out of my painful thoughts.

I stood up immediately and bowed, his hands came on me. As he inspected me closely.

“You’re alive.” His eyes softened.

“The guards said everyone in the academy was killed. I thought you had gone too.”

He was being extra nice. Should I give in to it or be wary of it?

“It’s pretty difficult to kill me.”

I joked and his eyes softened even more.

His gaze came on Ronan finally acknowledging his presence.

“Thank you for bringing her back safely.”

“It was all her.”

“Well you two need to rest. You must have had quite the journey. After which we’ll meet to talk.”

I nodded, as he ordered some guards to escort us.

When we got to the east wing and west wing, we had to go separate ways. As it was separate rooms.

Our conversation still lingered at the back of my mind,

What could be going on?

After I had my bathe, changed into new wear and even ate. I was allowed to have few hours of rest before a guard came knocking and demanding my presence by the palace garden.

When I got to the palace garden. Ronan was already there with the king, and they seemed to be lost in their conversations, smiling and stuff,

I made my presence known with a cough.

“You look better,” the king noted. I gave a small smile, and Ronan avoided my gaze still.
It hurt.

Really.

“So Ronan here tells me that you killed Kyros?”

I froze up. He revealed that to the king? Why?

He knew I didn’t trust the king. And yet he did that.

“No Sire. I don’t even know how it happens. One moment I’m on the brink of death, and the next I’m on a field with a white wolf? And the next. Kyros is on the floor. Dead.”

The king froze up, as though he had seen a ghost.

Did I perhaps say something wrong? Something stupid?

“Did you say white wolf?”

I nodded my head. “Is something wrong?”

The king looked between me and Ronan. As though contemplating heavily.

“Come with me. I have to show you something.”

I swallowed. Dread ran through my veins.

I followed him still, we went into an ancient looking room when the light came on. I discovered that it was a library.

A small library, with a study table, someone had been frequenting here. Dare I say I think it’s the king.

He took a book from one of the shelves.
And set it in front of me and Ronan.

The book was read.

THE LEGEND OF THE WHITE WOLF.

A shudder went through me.

I looked downwards to read more.

“The white wolf is a god of life and death. Once upon a time, this goddess fell in love with a human, and they had a son. A lobizona was born. Just like me.”

I read further.

“The son grew and so did his powers. But instead of being a god of life and death, he was the god of death and destruction. With just one touch he could cause people to fall dead. His mother wished to keep him alive. And also wishing to end the killing went to a witch, who proposed a spell to have him locked up for eternity. He’s been locked under a crypt for a thousand years and still counting.”

Unless…

No. It can’t be. Seeing it shouldn’t mean anything. Right.

I read further still. Even as my hands tremble.

“Centuries ago. A prophecy was made. The rebirth of the white wolf. A mark of the end of the world as it is known. Death would reign. Blood will spill. It was marked as the revenge on life itself.”

I swallowed hard. Struggling to find my breath.

“Just cause I saw it. It doesn’t mean anything right?”

The king didn’t look too convinced. Instead, he was giving me that wary look.

“Probably. It could just be a warning.”

He didn’t seem to be convinced.

Ronan who stood beside me. Had been utterly quiet.

“When Kyros had you, where did he take you?”

“I don’t know.”

“Think harder.”

I inhaled sharply. Trying to remember.

“The first place was the academy, the next was a waterfall and river, and the next was by the moonlight inside a weird cave,  and the last place, was where you found me.”

“The Witchers coven.” Ronan completed as his eyes widened.

He turned to the book, swiping through the pages, then he stopped when he saw something.

I looked at what he was pointing at.

It was the prophecy again. Many witches gave different account of prophecy, all summarizing the same point. But this one was way too distinct.

And not just that it was eighteen years ago, right about the exact time I was born.

“Blood. Magic. Water. Earth. These signs shall merge on the day he returns.”

“There’s only one cave under the moonlight. It’s the place where the first vampires were created that represents blood. The witchers' coven is a vital magic source. Represents magic. The river represents water. And the academy is Earth. He was speeding up the prophecy, giving a rebirth for the white wolf.”

My entire body paled. Kyros had…. Each time he cut my blood upon those points.

He was awakening an evil. And not just that. He was awakening the evil in me.

“It doesn’t make any sense. Why would Kyros do this? What was he after?”

“I don’t know. But one thing is for sure. If you saw the white wolf. It meant it worked. His spirit has reincarnated inside you.” The king confirmed.

The look he gave me did little to ease my nerve. It felt all too much, just moments ago I was thinking of why Ronan didn’t like me.

And now I’m back to being the greatest evil that was going to wreak havoc on the world.

“What… what is going to happen to me?”

I could barely recognize my voice.

“We would have to put an end to it before it’s too late.”

I didn’t like the direction it was going.

“How?”

“You’ll have to die.”

My throat dried even more.

“She can’t die. I’m sure we’ll find another solution.” Ronan countered. Staring the king head-on.

Who looked like he was about to have his guard cut my neck.

How did he go from the doting uncle to detesting me?

“Guards.”

An army of male troops is on call.

“Take her. I’m sorry Sera. I have to protect my own too.”

The guards came at me, but Ronan was quicker, he pushed one of them off me, another pushed a spear at him.

They wanted to hurt him. They wanted to hurt us.

I could feel something in me building. And before I could get a hold of it.

I screamed and a whirlwind had all of the guards falling to the floor.

All excluding Ronan.

He looked in amazement at what I had just caused. But he didn’t stare for long. He took my hands.

“Looks like this place isn’t safe either. Let’s go.”

I nodded, following him right behind,
