Chapter 29: "A Desperate Bid for Survival"
Chapter 29: "A Desperate Bid for Survival"
Chapter twenty-nine
Seraphina POV
Time was a fickle concept.
Especially when all you can feel is the gnashing taste of an empty stomach and dry throat.
My legs were bound to collapse soon, and yet somehow they didn’t. Each time I could feel myself falling to the floor.
My mind filled with him. And like that, the strength was picked up.
Kyros had been luring us into an unknown destination. At first I thought out stop was the academy, but we didn’t even stay there for more than a day.
According to Kyros, he didn’t enjoy the smell of rotten flesh. Like he wasn’t the one to have caused it.
I have gotten tired of trying to ask him where we’re going. He just seems like he was circling me around.
Each time we got to a spot. He would make me cut my palms. Then hold my hands and release chants.
I wondered how a wolf became a witch, chanting and shits.
We have arrived at what seems to be the fourth spot.
He pushed me to the bare floor, my back grinding the floor hard. Causing a pain wave over my body.
“Aren’t you supposed to be half wolf and half vampire? All you’ve been doing is chanting, did you add witchery to your news specimen?”
He scoffed. His smile was far from sweet.
“It’s all you sweet. I just use the power that you can’t, let’s just say you’re like my energy booster.”
I glared at him even more. Wishing to hell I had been able to complete my training with Annika.
I felt used. Helpless and hopeless.
The sound of a twig breaking captured both my attention and Kyros's.
It came from the edge of the woods.
“Stay.” Kyros seethed at me. As he walked towards the noise to have it checked out.
It wasn’t like I could even run away. I was tied down. And I had barely been fed.
Kyros was gone for more than five minutes now, and there was this eerie silence.
Did the universe finally answer my prayers and have him killed perhaps?
Before I could even celebrate my imagination, two footsteps approached me.
And as they got closer. I was able to make out Kyros form. Only that this time he was pushing a very agitated Ronan towards me.
My heart caught right in my throat. When he saw me. His face contorted into a mixture of relief and dread.
Kyros pushed him to the floor, tying his hands and legs with a rope.
“Well isn’t this unique. Your precious boyfriend decided to play the hero card. It’s such a pity that I’ll have so much fun tearing him inside out.”
My insides coiled.
He was bluffing. Right?
I held back the tears in my eyes. If he hurt him. I don’t think I could handle it.
“Now were where are we? Haa yes. The spells.”
He held my hands, but instead of cutting them slightly to release blood like he usually did, he went to my throat instead.
“No!” Ronan's scream was the last thing I heard before I felt the knife slice through my neck.
The darkness took over.
The next thing I saw after the darkness was an open field of turquoise roses. Its lengths spread wide and fast.
It was simply breathtaking. But it didn’t stand out to me, the last memory on my mind was the feel of Kyros blade.
If I were seeing this, does it mean I was in paradise? Dead?
No. I couldn’t die. Ronan needs me.
Was my destiny so fickle that my ending was to die like this?
While my head circled with thoughts, my heart raced.
I saw it. Out of the corner of my eyes, White fur.
It prodded towards me. At a menacing pace. And the closer it got, the more beautiful it became.
A white wolf.
It’s eyes was so expressive. Almost like an harmless predator. It maintained its soft eyes on me.
I have never felt so drawn to something the way I felt drawn to it. It was like o had to touch it.
Like nothing would ever make sense if I didn’t touch it.
And just when I was reaching it.
A loud booming voice screamed my name.
“Seraphina!”
Grandmother.
I could always recognize the soft tremors of her voice. Even in my sleep.
“Grandmother?” I called back.
“You have to return!”
And before I could ask what she meant. The beautiful field got engulfed in a sea of darkness.
And like a labyrinth. I was taken back to the woods.
Only that this time when I opened my eyes. Kyros' body was lifeless.
And so was Ronan.
I rushed to him, ignoring how weak my knees felt.
I felt for his pulse. It was weak.
“Feed him your blood.” A soft voice spoke in my head.
It was my voice, but somewhat different,
I looked around to see who it was, but there was no one.
“He’s half vampire and you have lobizona blood.”
I felt confused and terrified.
“Trust me.” And just like that the image of the white wolf flashed in my vision.
Was she?
I didn’t have time to dwell. Ronan's pulse was getting slower by the seconds.
I opened up my hands with my teeth, puncturing tiny flesh to let blood out.
And I placed it on his lips.
No movement. Just static.
“It’s not working.”
I was almost mentally cussing myself for believing the weird voice in my head when I felt him stir.
His pulse was rising again.
“Ronan.” Once he saw me. His eyes widened. As though he couldn’t believe his eyes.
“Sera? How?”
“I don’t know. One moment I’m here. And the next I’m not here.”
“When he sliced your throat. Your hair turned crimson white. And you struck at him hard. And then. You came at me.”
I swallowed hard.
Not wanting to believe there was truth to his words.
“If that’s the case then I shouldn’t be touching you, aren’t you afraid?”
“I am. But I’m more relieved to know you’re alive.”
“Your hair isn’t white again.” He noted.
I couldn’t help the tears that fell my face. I reached out and hugged him tightly.
Never wishing to let go
