Chapter Twenty: Threads of Fate
Seraphina POV
The events of the previous day still lingered in my mind. The episode in the academy ball, down to being dragged to the palace and the meeting with the king.
It had all been quite overwhelming; thankfully, the king had kept to his words, and he had placed Ronan, me, and Lena in the safety of his palace.
I was now getting ready to meet Annika, the king-trusted witch,
After getting ready, we got to the king's private hall,
The king had said I would be the only one allowed to see Annika.
He refused to permit Ronan, even to see me; he said he didn’t trust Ronan.
And why I appreciated his care because I was still pinned on Ronan. He had been the one to help me during the whole academy hall episode.
Now seated in the private hall, I waited for Annika and the king to show up,
“Nervous?” Lena's voice had brought me from my myriad thoughts.
“A bit.”
“It’s okay, Annika is good, I know she can help.”
“Do you trust him?” I asked the question that had been plaguing my mind.
“The king?”
“Yes,”
“why do you ask?”
“I’m not used to people being nice, so I can’t help but feel there’s an hidden agenda.”
“It’s okay to have doubts, it shows that you are indeed Queen Raine granddaughter, I personally don’t trust anyone, but I trust the love the king has for his mother, which in a way is extended to you.”
“Even if we are strangers?”
“Even at that.”
The door opened, and A woman with platinum blond hair came in; she had green eyes like the forest.
I assumed she was Annika.
We greeted her, and shortly after, the king came in.
When we were all seated, Annika started the meeting.
“Thank you for this privilege your majesty.” She turned to me. “Can you narrate the things you told the king?”
And I did just that,
I told her about my encounter from the academy till now.
“And Are the dreams frequent?”
“At first it wasn’t, but yes it has become frequent.”
“So do you know what the issue is?” The king asked.
“Well to put this simply, she is linked to kyros,”
“How?”
“Well they are both mutants, and so their lives are linked together, that is if she dies, then kyros dies, if she lives then he lives, the reason we couldn’t permanently kill him was cause she existed, and so therefore he’d been trying to use her to come back into existence.”
“So kyros wasn’t killed in the past?”
“No. The gods locked him up in his custom made hell, that can only be opened by the removal of Ronan’s curse, he knows he can’t get out, and so he is trying to use you to get out of there.”
“Oh dear.”
“We would have to stop him.”
“How? Do you have to kill her?” Lena asked, referring to me.
“That would have been the right thing, but I know she’s special to the king, so we would have to find another way, and fast too.”
“Can you break the link, between me and him?”
“No. It was placed by the heavens their selves. But I can stop him from communicating to you in the meantime, that would put a halt to his plan, however it shall only be temporary.”
“Why not permanent?” I asked.
“The bonds you two share is quite strong, so my magic may not be able to cut it off.”
After hearing Annika, I felt more like my life was pretty shitty,
I was tied to a monster, and there may be no way out.
“I will prepare a protection bangles so you can stay out of kyros reach till i can find a way to make him get out of your life.”
And with that, the meeting ended.
The king tried assuring me that all would be well before he also left,
Then Lena followed, I went back to the room I was assigned to stay in,
I was shocked to see Ronan sitting on the bed when I got in.
How the hell had he bypassed the guards.
I rushed to him, and a mixture of emotions filled me all at once.
Excitement, relief, fear and sadness.
“What are you doing here? What if you are caught in here?”
“Well damn all of them, I have been worried about you, and I couldn’t wait any longer, I had to see you.”
My cheeks heated,
He came and embraced me in a warm and soothing hug.
“How have you been?”
“I missed you.” I confessed in a whisper,
“I missed you to flower, it killed me ti not have you by my side.”
A chuckle escaped my lips. “I’m sure you have tried mutilating the guards if they stopped you.”
A warm smile filled his eyes, “of course, no one can stop me from being with you.”
Then we went to the bed and cuddled against each other.
“How did you get in?”
“I know a secret passage.”
“Oh.”
He kissed my forehead, my toes curled from the affection.
“How did the meeting with the king go?”
And I told him everything.
“Why didn’t you tell me about the fact that your curse is tied to kyros.”
His eyes got grim, and his shoulders tense.
“I didn’t want you to hate me.”
“I would have loved it if you confided in me, I would have been there for you.”
“I didn’t know that would be your reaction, I just couldn’t handle you hating me like everyone does.”
“Oh ronan, of course I would never hate you.”
“You said you did.”
“That’s cause you were being a brute, but I happy to like that about you also, it’s cute in a way kinda.”
His eyes softened as he placed a chaste kiss on my lips.
“Thanks for coming into my life.”
“I did nothing good, I mean I brought kyros, I’m the reason he attacked those students, he was either trying to get my attention to him, to the fact that we are tied, that’s why I always found my self in the woods.”
“I wouldn’t let kyros hurt you, and I promise we would find a way out of this.”
“That’s what Annika says, though I wonder if we would be here till she finds the answer.”
“Absolutely not, I appreciate the king’s help, but I don’t trust him.”
“You don’t?”
“I just don’t think anyone is that nice, especially him, I mean people are terrified of him for a reason.”
“Maybe it’s just the image he portrays to the people.”
We stayed like that for a while, catching up and occasionally making out. However, we didn’t do anything extra to avoid getting caught.
After some time had passed, Ronan said he had to leave.
My heart broke at being separated from him, and I was almost begging him to stay in,
“Will you come back?”
“Tomorrow morning flower, I would think of how we can get out of here also, away from dangers.”
And then he left through the huge glass window in the room.
Immediately after he was gone, I heard a soft knock on the door, and the person knocking was Annika, the witch,
I let her in,
“I needed a private audience with you.”
“What for?“
“To warn you, your powers are growing, and they are endangering the life of everyone, if you can’t control it, then everyone would suffer for it, including your loved ones.”
I swallowed hard.
“But the events that happened are not my fault, but kyros, right?”
“Kyros is locked in a hell, and he was locked without any powers; he is harming people with your own powers; it wouldn’t have been possible if you could have been able to master your powers.”
Wow. So that means I’m the curse of the deaths.
A wave of guilt hit me deeply.
“Why? Why didn’t you tell me in the presence of the king?”
“Cause you could have gotten killed for it, I sympathize with you, so be careful, you have a whole responsibility in your hands.”
“Responsibility?”
“To kill, to save.”
“What?”
“You’ll have to figure it out on your own.”
And with that, she was left.
The next day, I was roaming about the palace, trying to find my way to where Ronan's room was; the guards didn’t seem to pay much attention to me,
On my way, I noticed a room was opened ajar, and I decided to check if it was Ronan’s room.
I knocked but got no response, so I entered.
It turns out it wasn’t an r; it was more like a storage of antics.
There were even books and grimoires, all looking ancient and dusty.
I was about to go outside when my eyes caught on a book titled Lobizona.
I wondered why there was such a book here.
And so, out of curiosity, I picked it up, trying to decipher what could be written in it.
And if whatever was written could be used to help me harness my powers.
However, when I opened it, I saw a picture of a baby; more accurately, I saw a picture of myself as a child.
And the more I looked at it, the more I saw pictures of me growing up with grandma,
There was also writing in a strange language that I couldn’t understand.
There was even a picture of the house I stayed in,
As though we had been watched all our lives.
The door creaked open, bringing my attention to it.
“What are you doing here?”
