Chapter 56

Chapter 56
The evening air was warm, scented with the faint aroma of pine and the distant hum of the town below. Rowan had suggested a date—a rare, deliberate escape from the forest and pack tensions—and Clara felt a thrill of excitement mixed with nerves.

“You look amazing,” Rowan murmured as she stepped onto the small patio outside the local café he’d reserved for them. His hazel eyes lingered on her, full of desire and admiration.

Clara smiled, fingers brushing against his as they walked to their table. “You clean up pretty well yourself,” she teased, noting the tailored shirt and relaxed confidence he carried effortlessly.

The table was simple, adorned with a single candle that flickered softly in the evening breeze. For a moment, the world outside—the pack, the rogues, the danger—disappeared. It was just them, a rare bubble of intimacy.

Rowan reached across the table, brushing a loose strand of hair from her face. “I’ve been wanting this,” he admitted, voice low and rough. “Time with you… just us.”

Clara’s heart fluttered, warmth spreading through her chest. “Me too,” she whispered. “It feels… nice to have a moment that’s only ours.”

They ate slowly, savoring the food but more so savoring the company. Conversation flowed easily, laughter breaking through the tension that had built between them over weeks of training and battles. Rowan shared stories of pack life, anecdotes of his sister’s antics, while Clara talked about her shop, the small victories, and challenges she faced in town.

After dessert, Rowan stood, holding out his hand. “Dance with me?” he asked, a playful yet possessive gleam in his eyes.

Clara laughed softly but took his hand, letting him lead her to a quiet corner where the candlelight pooled. His arms wrapped around her, strong and protective, as they swayed gently to the faint music drifting from the café.

“You feel… perfect here,” Rowan murmured, forehead resting against hers. “Like you belong… like this is where you should be.”

Clara’s pulse raced, heat pooling. “I belong with you,” she whispered, letting herself sink into the warmth of his embrace.

Their lips met in a slow, deliberate kiss, tasting, savoring, exploring. It was softer than the kisses born of urgency or danger, yet no less intense—filled with love, trust, and desire. Rowan’s hands lingered at her waist, drawing her closer, while Clara pressed into him, feeling the steady, protective strength radiating from him.

They stayed there, wrapped in each other, the night around them alive with possibility and quiet magic. For once, danger seemed distant, replaced by connection, passion, and the promise of shared moments.

Rowan pulled back slightly, his lips brushing hers one last time. “We’ll face the world together, Clara,” he whispered, eyes dark and intense. “But tonight… tonight, it’s just us.”

Clara smiled, chest warm, heart full. “Just us,” she echoed, savoring the rare, perfect night in his arms.
