Chapter 36 Blood and Fang

Chapter 36 Blood and Fang
The docks had become a slaughterhouse under the blood-red full moon.
Flames roared from burning cargo containers, casting flickering orange light that danced across the black water like liquid fire. Thick black smoke curled into the sky, carrying the acrid stench of burning fuel, melting plastic, charred wood, and the unmistakable coppery reek of fresh blood. Gunfire cracked through the night like thunderclaps, each shot echoing off metal containers. Howls of rage and pain tore through the air, mixing with the wet, sickening sounds of claws ripping through flesh and the metallic clang of bullets striking steel.
The air tasted like copper and ash. Blood sprayed in hot, arterial arcs across cracked concrete. The river lapped hungrily at the docks, as if eager to swallow the dead.
Selene fought in the heart of the carnage, claws fully extended. A Silverfang warrior lunged at her from the shadows, his hot breath reeking of rage and wolfsbane. She sidestepped at the last second, feeling the rush of air as his jaws snapped shut inches from her face. She drove her claws upward into his throat, tearing through muscle and artery. Hot blood gushed over her hand and forearm in thick, pulsing streams, warm and sticky, soaking her sleeve instantly. The wolf collapsed with a gurgling choke, his body twitching violently as life left him in wet, bubbling spurts.
Another attacker came from the side, claws raking across her ribs. Pain exploded like liquid fire as four deep gashes opened, exposing raw red muscle and white bone beneath. Blood poured down her side in heavy sheets, soaking her clothes and making every movement slick and agonizing. She spun low, tasting blood in her mouth from biting her own tongue, and slashed upward into his gut. Intestines spilled out in a wet, steaming heap, the foul odor of exposed organs mixing with the coppery blood smell.
Enzo was a storm of violence beside her. His gun barked twice in rapid succession, the sharp cracks cutting through the night. Two wolves dropped mid-leap, their bodies hitting the ground with heavy thuds, blood pooling beneath them. A third got too close. Enzo drove his knife up under its ribs with a wet crunch, twisting savagely. Hot blood poured down his arm in thick rivulets as the wolf howled in agony, its intestines bulging from the wound.
Kael fought on her other side like a silver tempest. His claws flashed in the firelight, ripping through his own former pack members with brutal efficiency. One wolf's face was torn open, exposing bone and teeth. Another had his throat ripped out, blood spraying in rhythmic jets with every heartbeat until he collapsed.
The three of them moved like they had been born for this moment. The bond between Blood, Fang, and the Moon's Daughter pulsed with every strike, feeding strength, awareness, and savage coordination to one another.
But the enemy kept coming in waves.
A coordinated assault crashed into their position. Enzo took a silver bullet to the shoulder. The impact made a sickening wet sound as it tore through muscle and bone, exiting in a spray of blood and shredded tissue. He roared in pain, the sound raw and guttural. Selene felt the agony through the bond like her own flesh being ripped open, burning, searing, nauseating.
She screamed and launched herself at the shooter, claws ripping through his chest with a wet tear. Ribs cracked under her fingers. Blood sprayed across her face, warm and metallic on her tongue.
Kael appeared at her side instantly, protecting her flank. "Stay together!" he bellowed over the chaos, his voice hoarse from shouting and roaring. "They're trying to separate us!"
Damien moved like death itself through the shadows, tearing out throats with elegant brutality, the wet gurgling sounds of draining blood accompanying his movements. Rafe was a storm of chaos nearby, laughing maniacally as his shadows whipped out to slice limbs and crush bones with sickening crunches.
The four crowns fought as one.
But the Silverfangs had brought overwhelming numbers.
A massive warrior slammed into Enzo, pinning him against a rusted container. Claws raked across his chest, tearing deep gouges that exposed muscle and rib bone. Blood poured from the wounds in heavy sheets, soaking his shirt instantly. Enzo roared and drove his knife upward, but the wolf kept pressing, claws digging deeper.
Selene fought desperately toward him, slashing and tearing through wolves in her path. The ground was slippery with blood and oil, making every step treacherous. Her lungs burned from smoke. Her muscles screamed from exertion. A shallow cut on her forehead dripped blood into her eyes, blurring her vision.
Kael reached Enzo first. He grabbed the attacker by the throat and hurled him into the river with a roar. The splash was barely audible over the chaos.
Enzo staggered to his feet, bleeding heavily from multiple wounds, but his eyes met Selene's with fierce determination.
"We hold the line!" Enzo shouted, voice raw. "For her!"
The words ignited something primal in all of them.
Selene fought with renewed fury. She leaped onto a wolf's back, claws sinking deep into its shoulders, feeling the hot blood pulse under her fingers. She rode it down as she tore into its neck, the copper taste flooding her mouth again.
Kael fought like a demon beside her, protecting her with his body and his rage. Enzo covered them with precise gunfire, the sharp cracks of his weapon dropping enemies before they could get close.
The battle reached its peak when Selene's father — the Alpha — appeared at the head of a fresh wave of warriors.
He shifted mid-stride into a massive silver-streaked wolf and charged straight for her, eyes glowing with betrayal and fury.
"Traitor daughter!" his voice roared through the pack bond. "You have disgraced us all!"
Selene met him head-on.
They collided in a blur of claws and fangs. The Alpha was stronger, older, and more experienced. His jaws snapped inches from her throat, hot breath reeking of rage. Selene rolled away, slashing his side, feeling her claws tear through thick fur and muscle. Hot blood sprayed across her face.
Enzo and Kael tried to reach her, but waves of wolves blocked their path.
For a terrifying moment, Selene fought her father alone.
Claws raked her side. Pain exploded through her body like liquid fire as four deep gashes opened, exposing raw red muscle and white bone beneath. Blood poured down her side in heavy sheets. She screamed and drove her fist into his muzzle, stunning him long enough to slash his shoulder. Blood poured from the wound.
Enzo finally broke through, tackling the Alpha off her. Kael joined him, the two alphas, Blood and Fang, fighting side by side against the Silverfang leader.
The sight was surreal.
Father versus sons-in-bond.
The Alpha roared in fury as Enzo and Kael overwhelmed him with coordinated attacks. Selene staggered to her feet, blood pouring from her wounds, and joined them.
Together, the three of them drove the Alpha back.
With a final, desperate howl, the Silverfang leader retreated into the shadows with his surviving warriors.
The docks fell into an uneasy silence, broken only by the crackling of fires, the distant wail of sirens, and the labored breathing of the survivors.
Selene collapsed to her knees, breathing hard, covered in blood. Enzo dropped beside her, pulling her into his arms. Kael knelt on her other side, hand gentle on her shoulder despite the blood on his claws.
"We held," Enzo whispered, voice raw. "Together."
Kael nodded, silver eyes meeting Enzo's for the first time without pure hatred. "Together."
The bond between them, Blood and Fang, had never been stronger.
But as they caught their breath among the bodies and burning wreckage, they all knew the truth.
This was only the beginning.
The real war was still coming.
