Chapter 80 : Life on the Line
Ikrus’ hands quivered as he paced around. He caught a glance of that twisted look on the physicians faces, passing a secret message to one another. There was no need for him to understand their secret ways of speaking to detect what they were communicating to one another.
The grip around his heart tightened.
“Speak to me,” he commanded.
They turned to him quickly. It was the head healer who began to speak, his hands stained with blood.
Aniya’s blood.
The sight of it made him sick. How could he have allowed this to happen? He should have picked another time to go and see Yika.
Cuts of the flesh, he found heal. But with the suppressant in his blood, there was nothing he could do.On top of that, Aniya’s cut was beyond the flesh. Even without the suppressants, only the physicians would be able to effectively help.
Her blood soaked dress had been meticulously cut to reveal the injured part of her body.
She was no longer bleeding though.
She had stopped bleeding for a while.
That was a good thing. It was.
But the Head Physician shook his head.
“Heal her!” His voice thundered as rage engulfed him.
Rage at himself. At everything. At Veris the most.
Then the doors behind him swung open and someone hurried into the room.
Veris.
Ikrus was quick to slam him against the wall. Pain flashed behind Veris’ eyes and Oana’s screams morphed into the background of Ikrus’s mind.
“You did this!” His hand tightened around Veris’s neck, his claws digging into his flesh. “You planned this! You wanted her dead!”
“Let him go, please!” Oana shouted as she tried to pry Ikrus’s hand away from Veris. “I brought him here to save her. He is the only one that can save her!” Her vogue shook with tears, hoarse with torn desperation.
Ikrus let Veris go immediately and his gaze turned to Oana. The rage in them made her flinch. She took two quick steps back, looking quickly away from him.
Veris turned away from them and headed to the bed, where Aniya laid upon, her eyes closed, her body strangely still. The physicians made a way for him to get to her.
“Leave us,” Veris said and the physicians left immediately.
Then he turned to Ikrus and Oana. “Leave us,” he said, more pointedly this time.
Oana hurried out of the room, but Ikrus folded his arms across his chest.
“Save her or get out.”
“Ikrus—-“
“I do not trust you. I am not leaving her with you.”
“Then you are ready to have a dead mate.”
Ikrus laughed bitterly. “If she dies, you are not leaving here alive.”
All the arguments died on Veris’s tongue. The conviction in Ikrus’s eyes was so strong, he knew at that moment, that his best friend was ready to kill him.
With a stiff back, he turned back to Aniya and began mixing his potions. Then his eyes caught somethin
g and he froze.
Well, that was going to change everything.
