Chapter 74 — PEARL.

Amara was shock to hear this words from Ethan’s mouth. She wasn’t expecting it at all. Her eyes went to the package, then to Ethan and she shook her head.

“I can’t take this, I really can’t. It is too expensive. What? Twenty million dollars for me, ah! No,” she panicked, but Ethan quickly held her hand and pressed his lips with hers. After a while, he let her go smiling.

“Was that too extra?” He asked.

Amara blushed and turned away, “you could have told me though, before you did this.”

“How could I have, you would have told me to give you the money instead,” Ethan said.

Amara said nothing else only staring at the packaged diamond necklace, it took a while before she spoke, but as she opened her mouth to speak, a voice called from behind them.

“I need to see just the gentleman that outbid me, argh I mean, I really wanted that necklace,” it was a female voice. The same voice who was competing with Ethan for the diamond necklace earlier.

Amara turned to see who it was, but she noticed that the lady’s eyes were fixed curiously on Ethan and not her. The lady was indeed beautiful, she had long red hair and a perfectly shaped body, one look at her could lure all the men to her bedside. Her eyes were sea green and were perfect with her hair color. She was so confident which complimented her beauty very well.

Seeing that Ethan didn’t spare her a single glance, she smiled and walked to their front and as she did, her eyes widened.

“Ethan?” she called, her voice held so much surprise and shock.

Ethan’s head immediately shut up to see who this was and his eyes to widened.

“Pearl?” he called.

Amara looked back and forth between the two, they stared at each other for quite a long time. Amara felt so uncomfortable by this that she had to break the eye contact.

“Ethan? Who is this?” She asked.

Ethan only looked down, for some reason, he looked a little bit stressed, almost like he never wanted to run in the young lady named Pearl.

Pearl looked at Amara for a brief moment, then at Ethan as if waiting to hear the answer from his mouth first. Amara noticed that Pearl looked at Ethan with respect and fear, but with also something else, like they had, had something in the past.

Seeing that he wasn’t ready to reply to Amara’s question, Pearl decided to answer it.

“Yes we do know each other. A very good childhood friend to be exact. I was not expecting to find him here though,” she said. Her voice soft and warm, it made even Amara smile.

Amara nodded, in fact she smiled and offered a handshake, in total relief that it wasn’t someone Ethan once had a relationship with, “oh that’s great, nice to meet you. I am Detective Amara Morgan, his girlfriend,” she answered. Pearl took the handshake and smiled too.

“Girlfriend han? I didn’t know that Ethan would get a girlfriend,” she said.

“Things have changed over these past years,” Ethan finally responded.

“Clearly,” Pearl laughed, “you are now breaking the rules, that’s great.”

Amara had no idea what breaking the rules meant, but she was very sure that it was something that had to do with childhood memories. It had been a hundred years since Pearl and Ethan had seen and seeing her all of a sudden was surprising to Ethan.

He was immediately put in a rough position, because he indeed knew Pearl and she was indeed his childhood friend, even worse, she was his mate, the one he had chosen to let go of.

Pearl was from the Eastside Silverwood pack. They had no name like the Zathkanan Palace, but we’re the second most powerful pack. When Ethan’s father was Zathkanan Palace’s alpha, he thought about making an ally with the Eastside Silverwood pack. However, Ethan had known Pearl since he was a child. They had played together and ran around as kids, and have been together even despite the beef between the packs. A ritual was performed to bind the two together as mates, making Pearl a Luna, but the plan went absolutely wrong as it brought the downfall of Ethan’s father and also his death. The beef was still strong then, so the Eastside seized the opportunity to kill and destroy Ethan’s family and relatives which brought an insane tragic trauma to Ethan.

Ethan and Pearl patched ways as Ethan disregarded the ritual they had already taken. Pearl felt really bad for what her pack did to Ethan, so she took it upon herself to kill the ruler of her pack and became the new ruler of the Eastside Silverwood pack. Parting ways for the next hundred years.

But now she stood directly in front of Ethan, her old feelings immediately came back. Back then, she had an unhealthy obsession with Ethan. She knew Ethan to be a man with little or no emotions, so she became surprised when Amara introduced herself as his girlfriend. She also didn’t want to address Ethan normally because of Amara’s presence. She only smiled, but deep down she felt jealous.

Ethan was looking more handsome than he was hundred years ago. His grey eyes had more sparkle and his hair was a little longer. His presence brought her back to old memories, once that made her smile. She had heard so much about Ethan though, the most feared person in the whole of Silverwood. She had heard of his greatness and his achievement. She marveled at them wishing she could meet him one day. Better still, they were mates, so it was definitely destiny that brought them together.

Ethan however wasn’t expecting such an encounter too. His biggest fear was to see her now that he was paired with Amara. He didn’t know how he was going to explain it to Amara, so he decided to keep quiet about it.

“I know there is a lot and I mean a lot for us to catch up on, but tell me, how have you been?” Pearl asked.

“I have been alright, I see it is same for you too,” Ethan replied.

“Ah, but why do you need the diamond necklace though?” Pearl asked.

“Why do you need it?” Ethan asked back.

Pearl laughed, took a seat and sat in front of Ethan. Her sea green eyes fixed on his. Amara thought nothing of this, took the package and chuckled.

“You guys do need some serious catching up to do. So I’ll go wait in the car,” Amara said and stood up to leave.

“Amara Morgan,” Pearl called, “nice to meet you.”

Amara nodded before taking her leave.

When she was gone, Pearl’s smile dropped, “what do you think you are doing? Tell me you are using this to manipulate her?”

Ethan shook his head, took a deep sigh and folded his arms, “surprise, I am in love with a mortal.”

Pearl pouted her lips, unable to accept such a joke from Ethan’s mouth.

“Tell me you are joking, and tell me what this is really all about. We have quite a lot to talk about,” Pearl said and Ethan nodded.

“You should know by now what has been happening in Silverwood,” he asked.

“Sure, something about the gem of Destruction,” Pearl answered.

“So you do know?”

“Yeah,”

“What else do you know?” Ethan asked again.

“Well, I know that you killed almost a bunch of Immortals asking them to provide the information of the terrorist, then I heard a lot about the two tragedies of Silverwood, and of course a lot about that Amara Morgan,”

As Pearl said the last sentence, Ethan looked up in alarm, “what did you hear about her?”

He feared that the rogue immortal had gone broadcasting about Amara’s reincarnation as Arcata.

“I mean she is a popular detective is she not?” Pearl asked and this calmed Ethan down.

“I don’t seem to get why you are suddenly a huge softy and even have a relationship with a mortal. Last I heard, you take a woman every day, what’s so different?” she asked again.

Ethan sighed. He had never had anything against Pearl even after what her people did to his family. He still saw her as a friend, and he had also heard that she killed the alpha of her pack for him and took revenge on all those who were involved just for him. They just agreed to path ways forever, but it seemed destiny had other plans.

“It is a long story,” Ethan said.

“I can listen, that mortal can wait.”

So he decided to tell her everything that had been going on, from the Lady Jane and her disciples incident to him meeting Amara and the rogue immortal. He left out no detail, he even told her about Amara’s reincarnation as Arcata. When Pearl heard all these, her eyes widened. She wasn’t expecting Amara to hold such power of thousands of years old. Even still that Ethan was weak because he tried to save Amara. But she saw it as Ethan just trying to save a thousand years of power and knowledge not any silly love thing.

“I am assuming you’ve told no one else this? About this mortal?” Pearl asked and Ethan nodded. “So you still trust me that much han? So much that you tell me about your weakness,” she asked again.

Ethan gave a dry smile, “if I am to face a terrible fate because of this bond from the gem of Fate and Destiny, I will need more hands and you Pearl, are the strongest she-wolf I know.”
