Chapter 152 Epilogue
Chapter 152 Epilogue
~ Lyra's POV ~
A smile slowly touched my lips as I looked into the mirror once again, my fingers unconsciously brushing against the mark resting beautifully on the side of my neck.
Kael's mark had become one of my favorite sights, and every time I caught a glimpse of it, I found myself smiling all over again.
It had been a month since our encounter with the Void Wolf, and although the scars left behind by that terrible battle had not completely disappeared, we were slowly putting our lives back together.
Day by day, Iron Fang was beginning to heal, and little by little, hope was returning to the people who had almost lost everything.
"Baby." Kael's voice echoed clearly inside my mind. "Are you done getting ready? We are about to begin the ceremony."
The sound of his voice instantly widened my smile. Ever since he marked me, hearing him inside my mind had become the most incredible experience. No matter how many times it happened, it never stopped feeling surreal. It was unlike any spell or magical connection I had ever encountered.
"I'll be fully ready in a few minutes, my love," I replied through our bond before turning my attention toward River.
She was standing nearby with a mischievous smile dancing across her face, and I knew that expression well enough to recognize she was plotting something.
I folded my arms and narrowed my eyes at her.
"What's going on in that head of yours now?"
"Nothing," she denied almost immediately, trying to look innocent. "I'm just admiring how beautiful you look tonight."
A small laugh escaped me.
River had turned out to be one of the sweetest people I had ever known, and I truly could not have been more grateful to have her as a sister.
Seeing her and Taren together always filled me with quiet happiness. They complemented each other perfectly, and ever since the day they met, I had noticed a remarkable difference in Taren.
"As if you don't look beautiful yourself," I replied with an amused smile. "Now stop trying to distract me and tell me what is really going on inside that head of yours."
She bit her lip before finally surrendering.
"I really like your hairpin," she admitted. "I am planning to take it after the ceremony."
I couldn't help laughing. "I knew it. There was something sinister hiding behind that smile." I shook my head at her dramatically. "And no, you are not getting this one. You have already taken almost every hairpin I own."
"But..."
"My ladies, it is time." Taren's voice interrupted River's protest before she could continue. "We need to go now," he called from outside the door.
River immediately let out a disappointed sigh while I laughed once more. Together, we finished the last of our preparations before making our way out of the room.
The moment we stepped into the banquet hall, a wave of loud cheers rose from every direction. The sound was so overwhelming that it briefly caught me by surprise.
"And a round of applause as we welcome the one and only Luna of Iron Fang, Luna Lyra Thorne," the coordinator announced proudly.
The applause only grew louder.
Smiling warmly, I lifted my hand and waved at everyone as I made my way toward the front of the hall where Kael was already waiting for me. My seat had been reserved right beside his, and the moment I reached him, our eyes met for a brief second before I finally settled into my chair.
As I looked around the hall, my gaze swept across the countless faces smiling back at me.
For a brief moment, memories from the past forced their way into my mind.
I remembered this very pack calling for my execution the day I was captured and brought before them. I remembered the hatred in their eyes, the accusations, and the certainty that I did not deserve to live.
The memories lingered only for a moment before I gently pushed them aside. I refused to let them steal the joy of this day.
That chapter of our lives had already come to an end. Those actions had been born from ignorance, manipulation, and fear, and now I was fortunate enough to witness those same chains of ignorance breaking apart.
"Today, we celebrate our victory, the rebuilding of Astra Ellis for all hybrids and witches, and last but not the least, our alliance with the new shadow pack, under the leadership of Alpha Vale. May this occasion mark the beginning of many monumental things to come..." The coordinator spoke and the ceremony moved gradually until we arrived at one of the most important parts.
Kael rose gracefully to his feet, and almost immediately the lively murmurs filling the banquet hall faded into complete silence.
"After Dagan's betrayal, Iron Fang has been without a beta," Kael began, his calm voice carrying effortlessly across the hall. "That vacancy has remained because I refused to entrust such an important responsibility to the wrong person again. But today, that comes to an end."
A pin drop silence settled over the hall.
"I once trusted that position to someone who did not deserve it, someone whose hunger for power outweighed his loyalty to the people he claimed to serve. That mistake cost this pack dearly, and I have carried that lesson with me every single day since then. This time, I am placing that responsibility in the hands of someone who has proven over and over again that Iron Fang means more to him than his own life. Someone who stood firm when others fell. Someone who willingly placed himself in danger time after time without asking for recognition, simply because protecting this pack was the right thing to do."
Kael slowly turned away from the audience and looked toward the section where Taren was seated.
"Taren Wallace, come forward."
The hall erupted into another wave of applause, loud cheers, whistles, and excited voices. Several warriors pounded their fists against the tables while others rose to their feet in celebration. Smiles spread across familiar faces as Taren slowly made his way toward the front, clearly overwhelmed by the reception he was receiving.
When he reached Kael, he immediately lowered himself onto one knee and bowed his head respectfully.
"You have served this pack faithfully through its brightest moments and its darkest days," Kael continued, looking down at him with unmistakable pride. "You have risked your life more times than I can count. You have remained loyal even when betrayal surrounded you, and you never abandoned your people, even when doing so would have been easier. It is time for Iron Fang to honor that loyalty."
Kael rested a hand firmly on Taren's shoulder.
"On this day, I, Alpha Kael Thorne of Iron Fang, bestow upon you the honor, authority, and responsibility of becoming the Beta of Iron Fang. From this day onward, you shall be known as Beta Taren Wallace."
Another deafening round of cheers echoed throughout the banquet hall, even louder than before. The excitement spread from one end of the room to the other, and I found myself smiling just as proudly as everyone else. There was no one more deserving of that position than Taren. After everything he had sacrificed for this pack, seeing him finally receive the recognition he deserved filled me with genuine happiness.
"This is a great honor, Alpha," Taren replied, lifting his head while remaining on one knee. His voice carried both gratitude and determination. "I promise to carry out my duties faithfully and to serve Iron Fang with everything I have. I will never betray the trust you have placed in me, and I will never let our people or this pack down."
Contentment settled warmly inside my heart as I watched the ceremony continue. One after another, the cabinet members, elders, visiting Alphas, and dignitaries stepped forward to congratulate Taren on his promotion.
When it was my father's turn, he exchanged a firm handshake with both Kael and Taren before allowing his gaze to move thoughtfully between them.
"Being an Alpha and a Beta is one thing," he said with a faint smile. "Being someone's mate is something entirely different. I believe both of you are more than capable of fulfilling your duties. However, I am speaking now as a father whose two greatest treasures have both found their homes within Iron Fang. That naturally leaves me wanting a little more reassurance."
Kael smiled without hesitation.
"You have absolutely nothing to worry about, Alpha Vale. They are family to us, and they always will be. As long as I draw breath, they will be protected."
"They are in safe hands," Taren added confidently. "You have my word that I will look after River just as faithfully as I look after this pack."
"Don't worry, Dad," River joined in with an amused smile. "I've got Lyra here with me, and we're both going to make sure neither of us gets into too much trouble. Besides, we are going to visit often, so you won't get rid of us that easily."
"You had better," Dad replied, trying to sound stern, but the warmth in his eyes betrayed him completely.
His response drew another round of laughter from everyone around us, myself included. The sound echoed throughout the hall, replacing painful memories with something far more precious.
As I looked around the hall at the smiling faces of our family, our friends, our allies, and the people who had survived everything alongside us, I realized how much we had gained despite everything we had lost.
I didn't know exactly what the future had in store for us, but I knew without the slightest doubt that whatever awaited us, we would face it together. We were no longer standing as scattered individuals trying to survive on our own. We were standing together as one family, one united pack, and one unbreakable team.
The End.
