Chapter 306 Having a Husband to Back You Up is Different

Grace lowered her head and pulled out her phone, sending Lillian a friend request through the work messaging app.

Lillian heard the notification ping. Seeing that Grace had actually initiated adding her as a friend, she felt somewhat surprised but accepted anyway.

Grace sent a message: [Lillian, you know what? I actually really like you.]

Lillian read it with a suspicious frown, her face contorting.

She glanced across the office skeptically. Grace was still staring at her phone, then sent over a cheeky emoji.

The emoji was a panda head, pants half-down, mooning her with a smug expression.

Grace immediately followed up with: [I especially love—watching you hate my guts but being completely powerless to do anything about it!]

Lillian was practically fuming with rage!

That bitch actually had the audacity to provoke her?

Grace watched as Lillian's face alternated between flushed red and stormy pale, barely suppressing her laughter.

She knew Lillian couldn't stand her and constantly looked for excuses to cause trouble.

But wasn't this kind of petty, jealous little clown practically a source of entertainment in life?

Over the years, Grace had encountered so many toxic coworkers and bosses—Lillian wasn't even close to the worst.

Fortunately, she had a capable, wealthy, gorgeous husband backing her up.

Still, even with Alexander's support, she needed to keep working hard!

Next week, she'd officially complete her probation period.

---

At noon.

Grace used her elevator access card to reach the floor where Alexander's office was located. Just as she arrived at the CEO's office entrance, Jeremy stood waiting at the door. "Ms. Foster!"

Grace nodded. "Have you eaten yet?"

Jeremy replied, "Not yet—I'll eat after you and Mr. Hayes are finished."

He pushed open the door, and Grace walked in confidently.

Alexander sat at his desk, which had been cleared completely clean. Two lunch boxes sat on the surface, emanating a delicious aroma.

Alexander was a neat freak who didn't like eating in his office, but compared to his obsession with cleanliness, he preferred having meals with her even more.

Loving someone meant eating together—three meals a day was the simplest yet most ordinary form of happiness!

Grace sat down beside him. She was already ravenously hungry.

Alexander opened her lunch box for her. Three proteins, three vegetables, perfectly balanced—grilled beef strips, baked salmon, turkey breast, alongside vegetable salad, roasted asparagus, and avocado, served with garlic bread. It looked absolutely appetizing.

"Honey!"

Seeing him put her in such a good mood, Grace threw herself at him, cupping his handsome face and planting a kiss on him. She smiled sweetly. "Honey, you look so handsome today!"

Alexander raised an eyebrow in mild surprise. His large hand pinched her cheek, kissing her soft pink lips, though inwardly he felt somewhat puzzled.

Why was her mouth suddenly as sweet as honey today?

Jeremy had just walked in when he saw Grace hanging off Alexander like an oversized accessory. He immediately covered his face and backed out.

Alexander patted her bottom lightly. "Alright, let's eat."

Grace cooed, "You're the best husband."

She used to be terrified of marriage.

If only she'd known Alexander was such a wonderful person—she would have clung to him desperately and never divorced him in the first place. With him around, no one dared bully her.

Alexander's face remained composed, but his ears had turned slightly red.

Grace noticed and couldn't help thinking: Is he... actually embarrassed?

She'd only called him "Honey" a few times and his ears were already flushing.

Alexander noticed her staring intently at him and cleared his throat somewhat awkwardly. "What?"

Grace muttered, "Can't I look at you?"

Alexander pressed his thin lips together.

Though unaccustomed to it, he actually quite enjoyed when she called him Honey.

Alexander's mood hadn't been great earlier—this morning he'd argued with several old shareholders at the board meeting, and his face had been tense right up until she arrived. But one "Honey" from her and all his frustration evaporated!

The corners of his mouth lifted uncontrollably. "Why is your mouth so sweet today?"

Grace replied, "Because..."

She leaned in closer, studying his striking features—those parallel, sword-like brows, deep dark eyes, prominent nose, sharply defined lips and jawline. She praised sincerely, "Because you're especially handsome today!"

Alexander handed her the washed utensils. "Eat while it's hot."

"Mm."

Grace glanced at the broccoli, then wrinkled her nose in distaste and transferred it to his container. "I don't like broccoli."

She pushed all the food she disliked onto him.

Alexander asked, "You're picky?"

Grace countered, "I'm sick of it."

Back when she and Max had depended on each other, Max had handled grocery shopping and cooking. They ate whatever was cheapest. At the time, broccoli had been off-season and dirt cheap, so she'd eaten broccoli every single day. Now she couldn't stand the sight of it.

Alexander coaxed gently, "Just eat one piece, okay?"

She was carrying their baby—nutritional balance during pregnancy was crucial. So he coaxed her.

Grace conceded, "Just one!"

She reluctantly transferred one tiny broccoli floret back to her own container, though not before sneaking a piece of steak from his bowl. She began chewing slowly and contentedly.

For a moment, the office fell quiet.

They both ate in silence, barely speaking.

Alexander had been raised with strict manners, so he rarely talked while eating.

Grace also focused on her meal.

Since becoming pregnant, her appetite had increased considerably. She ate far more than before. Before she knew it, the entire container was empty.

Alexander asked, "Want more?"

Grace replied, "Half a portion more."

Alexander had specifically instructed Jeremy to prepare extra food.

Soon, Grace was full.

She set down her utensils and leaned back in her chair, cradling her bulging stomach in a food coma.

Alexander picked up a wet wipe and elegantly dabbed at the corners of his mouth. Noticing her lips still glistening with grease, he pulled out another wipe and gently cleaned her face.

"Next Tuesday, we'll go register our marriage."

Grace asked, "What's the date next Tuesday?"

Alexander answered, "August twenty-fifth."

Grace agreed readily, "Sounds perfect."

Alexander's thin lips pressed together gently as he kissed her lightly. "Let's get married and never divorce again, okay?"

She feared divorce—but so did he.

He also yearned for a stable, lasting relationship.

He believed she was a choice he would never regret.

Grace met his gaze. "Are you afraid I'll run away?"

Alexander countered, "What husband isn't afraid his wife will leave?"

Grace replied, "Alright then, you have to be really, really good to me, and then I won't divorce you."

Alexander chuckled. "You're my wife—why wouldn't I be good to you?"

Grace added, "And you're not allowed to bully me either!"

Alexander nodded patiently. "Mm, I won't bully you."
