Chapter 305 The Watched Facebook Post
Chapter 305 The Watched Facebook Post
Alexander noticed that Liam had not only learned to speak clearly with crisp pronunciation, but was now even using sophisticated expressions.
Alexander asked, "Why am I a separate matter entirely?"
Liam huffed, "Whatever! I'm done with this argument!"
He had received Mommy's little bicycle and was too happy to bother arguing with him anymore.
Time to cut the cake!
Liam made the first cut, then Grace distributed slices to everyone.
Suddenly, Liam's eyes fixated on the little fondant figures decorating the cake. He pointed at them. "Can I eat these little people?"
Max replied, "Of course you can eat them. They're all made of fondant - sugar paste inside, sugar glaze on the outside. Each little figure has different flavored filling."
Liam's eyes lit up with excitement. "I want to eat one!"
Max handed him Alexander's sugar figurine. "Here, you can eat Daddy!"
Liam looked distastefully at the sugar figure Max gave him, especially that crooked mouth, feeling rather aggrieved. But suddenly curious about what flavor Daddy's figure was, he took a big bite!
That single bite completely severed the little sugar person's head.
Alexander watched in dismay as Liam held what remained of his sugar likeness - just half a torso, looking rather macabre.
Max covered his mouth. "Maybe don't eat the rest of the figures - that looks kind of scary now."
Liam chewed thoughtfully. This was his first time trying fondant, and the texture felt strange.
While he had an insatiable sweet tooth, even he found this fondant overwhelmingly sweet. Despite being his favorite chocolate flavor, he still preferred the actual cake.
So he placed the half-eaten sugar figure on Alexander's plate. "Daddy can have it!"
Alexander frowned slightly. "I don't want it."
One slice of cake wasn't enough for Liam, so he had another piece, then another, until he'd eaten himself into a food coma. He sat slumped in his chair, holding his round, bulging stomach and groaning softly, clearly having eaten far too much.
"I'm eight years old now!"
He announced proudly that he'd grown another year older!
...
The next morning.
Grace hadn't arrived at the office yet when Lillian reached her desk and overheard employees gossiping: "Did you guys see Grace's Facebook post? She threw a birthday party for her son yesterday!"
"She posted photos on her timeline. Besides three kids, there was a man too! But except for her, everyone else's faces were covered with those cartoon sticker filters."
"Could it be her ex-husband?"
"No way! She's about to get married - why would she celebrate her son's birthday with her ex?"
Grace's social media profile was public, but only showed posts from the last six months.
Due to work connections, she'd joined numerous groups.
Some colleagues paid unusual attention to her, occasionally checking her timeline for updates.
Unfortunately, her activity over the past six months was virtually nonexistent. Yesterday, one colleague happened to check and discovered she'd posted something new - two photos with the caption: [Happy 8th Birthday to my dear Liam!]
But in the photos, everyone except Grace had their faces covered with cartoon stickers from photo editing apps.
Lillian pulled out her phone and opened Grace's post to see for herself.
She frowned slightly. Even though the man's face was obscured, his presence, physique, and even the outline of his features were intriguing.
He had his arm around Grace, bending slightly down to her level, but still towered over her by quite a bit. She estimated he was at least 6'2" tall, minimum.
Who was this man?
Her ex-husband?
Current boyfriend?
Wait...
The little boy in the photo looked like he might be one of twins.
She had twins?!
While Lillian was lost in wild speculation, Grace arrived punctually, clocked in, and sat at her desk.
Alexander had asked her to come to his office for lunch, and apparently the lawyers had already drawn up the agreements - several contracts that required her signature.
The asset division process was extremely complex and couldn't be completed in a day or two.
Since some agreements involved debt provisions, they needed to be signed before marriage.
This way, half of all his net assets would be transferred to her, while she'd sign liability waivers for any debts, which he would bear alone.
There were also several post-marriage agreements.
With so many contracts to sign and notarize, she'd definitely be late returning from lunch again today.
But since she'd already lost her perfect attendance bonus, Grace couldn't care less.
Seeing Grace made Lillian's mood sour.
Especially after yesterday's lengthy complaint session with Stanley yielded no disciplinary action against Grace, Lillian felt both humiliated and stripped of credibility.
Stanley was notoriously strict, typically showing iron-fisted impartiality with subordinates. Why was Grace the exception to his rules?
Could it be...
Did she really have some powerful backing?
The next second, she laughed at her own ridiculous speculation.
How was that possible?
Throughout all of Crest Corporation, project work wasn't exactly a prestigious assignment.
If Grace had serious connections, she wouldn't have been placed in the project division.
"Grace!"
A colleague suddenly broke the silence. "I saw your post this morning - did you throw a birthday party for your son yesterday?"
Grace replied, "That's right."
The colleague asked, "You have twins?"
Grace hummed in acknowledgment, then asked, "But we're not friends on social media - how did you see my post?"
The colleague fell silent.
Grace smiled knowingly. "I had no idea you paid such close attention to me - checking my profile even though we're not connected as friends."
She'd anticipated that colleagues in the work groups would click through to look at her posts, which is why she'd had the foresight to use filters, preventing any complications from photos being shared around.
The colleague responded somewhat sheepishly, "I wanted to add you as a friend, but you never accepted my request."
Grace said, "Since we're colleagues, if there's work-related business, it's easier to just tag people in the group chats."
The implication was clear: colleagues were colleagues, friends were friends.
She wasn't interested in cultivating meaningless social connections.
Anna asked curiously, "I just found out you have twin sons! Didn't you say before that you only had one son?"
Lillian interjected, "Anna, why all these questions? Two sons, divorced parents each take one - Grace, that man celebrating your son's birthday yesterday was your ex-husband, right?"
Grace thought for a moment. "You could say that."
He was both her ex-husband and her fiancé, but she couldn't be bothered explaining the details to Lillian.
Hearing this ambiguous response, Lillian sneered, "Either he is or he isn't - what's with all the evasiveness? Do even you think divorce is something shameful?"
Grace shot back bluntly, "None of your damn business."
Lillian's face turned green with rage, struck speechless by the retort.
Grace continued, "As team leader, have you forgotten the project division's workplace guidelines? No discussing personal matters during work hours."
Lillian sputtered, "You..."
She nearly lost control and started cursing.
