Chapter 53: scheming Cynthia
MONALISA'S POV
The next day, Cynthia showed up at the company and went straight to the secretary's office.
Jayden and Athena arrived later and Athena left for her office. Athena was shocked to see Cynthia in the office. Athena carefully closed the door and ran off to Jayden's office.
"She's here sir" Athena said while she approached Jayden.
Jayden lifted his head. "Who is here?
"The lady you fired yesterday"
"Fired? Who? Cynthia?
"Yes sir"
"Where is she?
"In my office, sir"
"Good morning sir Jayden" Cynthia walked in, placing some files on Jayden's table.
"You've got no shame, do you?
"Sir, I can't quit this job"
"Quit? I already fired you from this job. What are you doing here?
"Exactly. I can't leave this job. I don't mind sharing the job with you. I mean, if I could share you with your current wife, then I don't mind sharing this job with this ..." Cynthia flashed a disdainful look at Athena. "Bitch, I mean, lady"
"No. you are fired. Athena, get the security to throw her out"
"Why throw me out?
"You...had the nerve to send poisoned chocolate to my wife?
"Poisoned? Cynthia gasped for air.
"Oh please. Enough with the pretence"
"Let's do this. Tell her to provide the chocolate and bring it here and I will eat at least a quarter of the chocolate. You will break the parts you want me to eat and give to me and I will eat it. But I've got a condition. If I'm proven guilty, I'll obviously die from poisoning but...if it is not laced with poison, I'll have my job back. What do you think?
"I don't trust you. I'm not doing that"
"You have to trust me this time. I only sent those flowers and chocolate to apologize to her for my stupid act during your wedding and I swear I never followed you guys to Greece"
"I still do not trust you"
"You don't have to trust me to prove me wrong or right. Call her"
"Athena..."
"Yes sir"
"Call Monalisa and ask her to come here with the box of poisoned chocolate"
"Ugh! It's not poisoned" Cynthia protested.
"Yes sir" Athena immediately dialled my number.
I was in class, lecturing when my phone rang disrupting the class. I apologized and grabbed my phone.
"Athena is calling me" I mouthed. "Uh, guys, I need to take this call. Continue and I'll be back right after I take this call"
I walked out of the class and made sure I was at least a few metres away from the class full of curious and anxious teens.
"Yes Athena, what is it? I'm in class"
"Good morning ma'am"
"Skip the greeting and tell me why you called me and interrupted my class, we already saw each other this morning"
"Right. Sir Jayden asked me to call you"
"Why..is there any problem? I sounded anxious.
"I think, because, miss Cynthia is here again"
"What? again? That bitch doesn't know when to give up"
"Please come to the office with the box of chocolate allegedly laced with poison"
"Why?
"I think sir Jayden will give you a much better explanation"
"I'll be there after class"
"Right now. Actually, his chauffer must be close by"
"What? what's wrong with you guys? This isn't my school where I can take my bag and leave, unless it is a real emergency"
"Then this is one"
"Fine. I'll be there soon"
I returned back to class and place my phone on the table.
"Guys, I'm afraid I have to end this class. Something very important came up and it needs my attention. I need to go resolve it"
"What is it ma'am? Do you need our help? I can help you" Calvin offered.
"No thank you Calvin but I got this. Enjoy the rest of the day"
"Uh Miss Monalisa, are we having any online classes today? Alfred asked.
"Yes sure and we'll continue today's lecture. I should head out now"
I grabbed my tab and my phone and left the class. I went straight to my office in search of the box of chocolate which I already trashed.
The Janitor already cleared my trash can. I quickly hurried to the hallway in search of the janitor. I found him taking the trash can from the hall. I quickly called out to him and rushed over to him.
"Do you need anything miss Monalisa? The Janitor asked.
"Uh yes. You already cleared the trash can in my office right?
"Yes. Any problem?
"Uhmm...I mistakenly discarded a box of chocolate thinking it's empty. Actually, I need to take it to someone who it belongs to. Can you help me look for it?
"Sure. We can look for it. It should be in the dumpster"
"Let's go find it"
The janitor and I left for the dumpster. My gaze fell on a gift bag lying close to the dumpster. I picked it up and took out the content. My face it up with a smile.
"I found it"
The janitor turned to me. "You did?
"Yes. Thank you so much and I apologize for bugging you. I will run along now"
"Yes miss Monalisa"
I hurried back to my office and grabbed my bag. I saw Jayden's chauffeur waking down the hallway.
I walked hastened my steps to meet him. We left for the car. Minutes later, we arrived at Jayden's company. I got out of the car and hurried in.
Jayden and Athena heaved a sigh of relief the moment I walked in. I placed the gift bag on Jayden's table and fell on the seat, trying to catch my breath.
"So, what do you guys want to do with this poisoned chocolate? I inquired.
"It's not poisoned" Cynthia snapped at me.
"Don't talk to me in such tone woman" I cautioned Cynthia.
"So Jayden, what experiment are you guys going to perform on that poisoned chocolate? Hand it over to the police?
"No. Cynthia is going to eat and I will feed her and watch her die. She will finally be out of my life" Jayden grabbed the gift bag and took out the chocolate box. He took out a chocolate bar and handed it over to Cynthia.
Cynthia took the chocolate from him and ate it. She sat back and smirked while she munched the chocolate.
"Why is she smiling? I whispered to Athena.
"I don't know. maybe she is smiling her last before she dies from the poison she had prepared for you" Athena replied and giggled.
"Most definitely"
"You can give me more if you want. I can also eat them all. Also to clear your doubt, I will sit in this office and move no inch for ten minutes, to see if I will react to any so called poisoning"
"Athena, set the timer and let's watch and see"
Athena set the timer as ordered by Jayden. We all sat in silence. I kept glancing on my watch, while Jayden went through the files on the table. Athena watched Cynthia closely.
The alarm went off and Cynthia was on her feet.
"It was nice doing business with you sir Jayden. I proved myself and you have to keep to your word, right? She smirked.
Oh I hate that bitch, her smiles and everything. The fact that a lowly secretary dare cast a lustful eye on man, irritated my being.
"I'll get going then, to my office"
Athena shot a death stare at Cynthia.
"Oops...someone already wants to murder me with her eyes. Sorry sweetie, you stares got nothing on me. Fine, our office. I'm kind hearted so I don't mind sharing. Bye guys"
I clenched my palms and my cheeks turned red.
Cynthia took a few steps and let out a scream, startling everyone.
"Ouch!! My stomach hurts! She dropped her bag and grabbed her stomach. "Ouch!! That hurts so bad!!
