You wicked witch
You wicked witch
"Why are you still up?" Shane walked in, "Did I wake you?"
Callie replied, "No, I've been waiting for you."
As she spoke, she got out of bed and walked over to hug him, pressing her face against his chest.
Her action surprised Shane, and he stiffened for a moment before smiling and asking, "What's up with you?"
Callie said it was nothing, "I just wanted to hug you."
Shane looked down at her, "Let go for a bit. I'll take a shower and then you can hug me. I'm dirty right now."
Callie refused, hugging him even tighter.
Their bodies were pressed closely together.
Shane asked softly, "What's wrong?"
Why did it feel like something was off with her?
Callie rubbed her face against his chest, "From now on, wherever I am, that's home. I'll love you with all my heart."
Shane lowered his eyes. Even in the dim light, the sparkle in his eyes and the slight tremble of his body were visible.
His deep voice carried a hint of hoarseness, "Callie, what's going on with you today?"
"Nothing, I just missed you and wanted to hug you." Callie lifted her head and stood on tiptoe to gently kiss his lips.
Shane paused for a moment, then responded firmly but without further entanglement, "I need to take a shower."
Callie found his behavior odd. Normally, he would have hugged her by now.
Has he lost interest in me so quickly?
The thought startled Callie herself. "Shane, have you already stopped liking me?"
"Don't talk nonsense," he replied, his hands never touching her. "I saw a dead body today. It's bad luck, and I don't want to bring it to you."
Callie wasn't particularly surprised. As a doctor, she had seen plenty of dead bodies.
In a hospital, When doesn't anyone die?
She wasn't scared.
Just curious.
"Who did you see at night?"
Shane was silent for a few seconds before answering, "Gianna."
His words hung in the air, and Callie didn't respond for a long time.
She felt like she must have misheard. "Who?"
"Gianna. I received a message with her address. When I got there with my team, she was already dead. The reason I came back so late was that I was investigating who sent me the message. I finished my work and was about to come back when I received the message around 10:30. We got there around 11:00. The rest of the time, I was trying to track down who sent the message, but I found nothing."
"Myron drugged Leif, and someone sent him a message, but we can't trace the address," Callie sensed something was off.
Shane noticed it too. "What's the purpose of luring me there? It can't be just to show me Gianna's body, right?"
Callie agreed. "It can't be that simple."
"What could their real motive be?" Callie frowned. "Didn't Henry find any clues?"
"Not yet. The Robinson Family has been very quiet," Shane replied.
In reality, it wasn't that the Robinson Family was quiet; they had made a move. However, Shane had discovered it first and dealt with it. He was handling Robinson Family matters, but he didn't mention it to Callie to keep her from worrying.
"This isn't like them. They seem quiet on the surface, but are they plotting something behind the scenes?" Callie speculated.
Shane pondered. Could it be that what he discovered was just a distraction? Was the real plan to use Gianna somehow?
But he wasn't close to Gianna, so what could he and Gianna possibly have to do with this?
Callie was equally puzzled.
"Gianna is dead. Myron must be heartbroken. Should I go see him?"
"He might not even know yet. It's late; let's go tomorrow," Callie said, glancing at the clock, which read 2 am. "I'll go to the hospital early in the morning."
Shane nodded. "You go to bed. I'll take a shower."
"Okay."
Instead of going straight to bed, Callie went to check on Leif. Mrs. Ford was with him, but she still wanted to see her child.
Leif was sound asleep, so she tiptoed out of the room.
Back in the bedroom, she sat on the edge of the bed, but sleep eluded her.
She propped her head up, thinking and thinking. Besides Moira and the Robinson Family, she couldn't think of anyone else.
Shane came out of the shower and saw Callie sitting on the bed. He walked over, wrapped his arms around her, and pulled her down onto the bed. He rolled over, pinning her beneath him.
His kisses were warm and wet.
Just as the mood was right, Leif's cries pierced the air.
Both of them froze for a moment. Callie was the first to react and gave him a gentle push. "Leif might be hungry."
"Mrs. Ford will feed him."
"But—"
Before she could finish her sentence, her mouth was sealed with a kiss.
Her words were completely blocked!
Everything was drowned out!
The night was long, yet filled with passion and tenderness!
...
The Robinson Family's old mansion was brightly lit.
The recent attempt to frame Shane Robinson had failed, leaving Old Master Robinson and Eric with dark, grim expressions.
"Nothing is going smoothly," Eric grumbled. Damian was tightly held by Shane, making it impossible to rescue him, and it looked like he would be sentenced. Shane's position in the company was also unshakable. Everything was going wrong.
Old Master Robinson's face was also heavy with concern.
Shane's current power was indeed formidable.
"Dad, what should we do now?" Eric asked anxiously, a large sore appearing at the corner of his mouth from the stress.
"I heard that Damian's girlfriend came up with a plan to embarrass Callie. How did that go?" Old Master Robinson inquired.
It's better not to mention it, but once brought up, it becomes another source of frustration.
Moira had volunteered to clean the venue, but she was caught and forced to clean the entire day under someone's watchful eyes.
She might have to continue tomorrow.
The venue was so large that it would take at least two days to clean it completely.
Not only did she fail to accomplish her task, but she also ended up getting herself into trouble.
Moira alone couldn't complete the plan; even with Dina's help, it still ended in failure.
They thought the ones keeping Moira occupied were some enthusiastic parents, but in reality, they were people arranged by Shane.
"Didn't succeed?" Old Master Robinson could tell everything just by looking at Eric's expression, which was as if he had swallowed a fly.
"Shane is so difficult to deal with because you, gave him too much power. Now his wings are so strong that he doesn't even listen to you," Dina complained.
Dina was Eric's wife and Damian's mother.
"Shut up!" Eric glanced at his wife and scolded in a low voice. Having Old Master Robinson on their side was already the best outcome.
Dina closed her mouth, not out of fear, but because she knew that saying anything now was pointless.
It was too late.
At this point, the only thing they could do was figure out how to deal with Shane.
Only by taking him down could they save Damian.
Old Master Robinson no longer had the energy to care about such matters; his spirit wasn't what it used to be.
"Master, I have an idea. I'm not sure if it will work," Butler Imani said.
Before the Old Master could respond, Eric couldn't hold back his impatience. "Go ahead, tell us."
There was a sense of desperation in the air, like grasping at straws.
Butler Imani glanced at the Old Master, waiting for his permission to speak.
He raised his hand slightly and said, "Go on."
"Here's the plan..."
Butler Imani organized his thoughts and said, "Young Master Shane is currently without any worries, which allows him to confront us with full focus. But if we can create chaos in his personal life, he'll be distracted, giving us an opportunity."
"Exactly, Butler Imani is right," Dina agreed wholeheartedly, nudging her husband with her elbow. "Say something, Eric."
Eric responded, "It's a good idea, but... how do we create chaos in his personal life? That's the key issue, isn't it?"
Old Master Robinson remained silent, sharing the same concern.
Currently, Shane and Callie seemed to have a strong relationship, especially with the addition of their child, which had only solidified their bond.
"Isn't it simple? Just sow discord between them," Dina suggested. Despite being middle-aged, she still retained her charm and looked much younger due to good maintenance.
She rolled her dark eyes thoughtfully. "The biggest taboo in a relationship is a third party. If a third party comes between them, can their relationship remain strong?"
"Shane is so shrewd. Can a third party really get in?" Eric still found it challenging.
Dina glanced at her husband, feeling disappointed in his lack of ambition. If he had any real ability, the entire Robinson Family business wouldn't have fallen into Shane's hands.
Though she thought this way, Dina knew better than to show it on her face. After all, men have their pride.
A man's pride must be maintained, and now was not the time for internal family conflicts. They needed to present a united front.
"I remember Dad had someone in mind, didn't he?" Dina said with a smile.
"Lydia?" Old Master Robinson shook his head. "She won't do."
"Why not?" Dina asked, puzzled.
"Even though I had her pretend to be Shane's savior, Shane has no interest in her at all. I arranged for her to work at the company, but Shane sent her off to some remote corner. It's hard for her to even see him, let alone become a third party."
Dina's eyes lit up. "That's easy to fix. Since she has the favor of saving Shane, if I make a move against her, won't Shane have to intervene?"
After all, it was Dina who had pushed Shane into the water that time.
Unfortunately, Shane was saved.
Now, Lydia was Shane's savior. Dina resented Lydia for saving Shane, so it was only natural for her to take action against her!
Old Master Robinson watched them with a sense of order and said, "You handle it yourselves. I'm tired."
"Father, please rest well," Dina said, rushing up to show her concern. She was about to help the old man up when he said, "Butler Imani will take care of me. You all go do what you need to do."
Dina didn't mind and instructed Butler Imani, "Take good care of the Old Master."
Butler Imani replied, "Yes, ma'am."
After the Old Master left, Eric approached his wife and asked, "Is your plan really going to work?"
"Why wouldn't it?" Dina replied confidently. "Shane isn't heartless. She might not like Lydia, but she won't stand by and let me bully her benefactor without doing something about it."
"But how does this relate to driving a wedge between him and Callie?" Eric asked.
Dina's eye twitched. She wanted to say, "Are you really that dense?"
Patiently, she explained to her husband, "Women are all a bit possessive, especially when it comes to their partners. They absolutely won't tolerate any magnetic attraction around them!"
Eric finally understood. He smiled and pulled his wife into a hug. "You clever little fox."
Dina was indeed beautiful and smart. Otherwise, after all these years of marriage, Eric wouldn't still be treating her so well, and there wouldn't be any other women around him.
...
Morning.
Callie woke up early. She first fed her son formula milk and put him back to sleep before she left.
"I'll drive you," Shane offered as he was also heading out.
Callie replied, "I can go by myself."
After all, it was Shane who had beaten up Myron. Seeing him might agitate Myron, especially since she was going to tell Myron about Gianna.
"Then let the driver take you," Shane insisted.
Callie nodded softly.
She took the car to the hospital. As she walked into the room, she saw police officers there, informing Myron about Gianna and taking his statement.
After they left, Callie walked in.
She had planned to break the news to him gently, but the police had already come.
She hesitated, unsure of how to start. "Um, Myron..."
Myron looked up and asked, "Did you come early because you already knew?"
Callie couldn't hide the truth. "Yes."
Myron stared blankly into the distance, his eyes unfocused. "The police came to ask me about her, whether I had seen her."
Callie listened quietly.
In truth, he knew that Gianna had been taken away by someone; she couldn't have escaped on her own.
"Take care of yourself," Callie said, unsure of how to comfort him.
Myron tilted his head back. "My mom died last night. How did you find out so quickly?"
"I..." She thought of Shane and quickly changed her story. "I just overheard the police talking about it."
"Oh." Myron clearly knew she was lying.
Was she hiding something?
Why would she hide it?
Did she know that Shane was the one who killed his mother?
So, she wouldn't say anything?
Was she deliberately keeping it from him?
His hand, hidden under the blanket, clenched into a fist, and a cold feeling spread through his heart.
"My condolences," Callie said softly.
Myron curled his lips into a bitter smile. "I know the dead can't come back to life."
"Last night, before midnight, Shane wasn't with you, was he?" he asked.
Callie nodded. "He had a lot of work at the office."
"Sis, I'm tired," he said, closing his eyes.
Callie Norris tucked him in. "Rest well. I'll stay here with you."
Myron didn't respond, keeping his eyes shut.
Around eight o'clock, Caitlin came by with breakfast.
Callie asked her to put the food down and didn't wake Myron. Instead, she pulled Caitlin outside to talk.
"Gianna is dead."
"What?" Caitlin was shocked.
"Mom, keep your voice down. Don't wake Myron. He's already feeling terrible."
"Wasn't she in prison? How did this happen?" Caitlin was confused.
The situation was still unclear, so Callie didn't speculate. "I don't know. We'll have to wait for the investigation results."
Caitlin nodded.
"Take care of Myron for the next few days. Pay attention to his mood," Callie instructed.
"Of course, I know that. I'll take good care of him," Caitlin assured her.
Inside the hospital room.
Myron had never fallen asleep. He kept his eyes closed, pretending to sleep, just to avoid talking to or seeing Callie.
Last night, he had sneaked out, hoping to see Gianna, but what he found was a cold, lifeless body.
He pulled out his phone and repeatedly watched the video.
It showed the scene of Gianna's death.
Just moments ago, he had asked Callie if Shane had been with her last night. Her answer was that Shane was busy with work.
However, there he was, at the scene of Gianna's death.
Click—
The door swung open!
Upon hearing the noise, Myron quickly hid his phone under the blanket.
His swift action went unnoticed by both Callie and Caitlin.
Caitlin placed the food on the bedside table. "You must be hungry. Come on, have some breakfast."
With that, Caitlin began to lay out the carefully prepared meal.
"I don't want to eat. I just want to be alone," Myron replied, his tone and expression cold.
He didn't show much sadness.
Caitlin wanted to persuade him, but Callie interrupted her in time. "Mom, let him be for now."
Swallowing her words, Caitlin said, "Alright, I'll leave the food here. Eat it when you feel hungry."
Myron remained silent, prompting Caitlin to sigh. "Sigh."
"Okay," Callie said, pulling Caitlin away. "Myron, get some rest."
After closing the hospital room door, Callie turned to Caitlin. "Myron needs time to process everything. He can't eat right now, and you shouldn't push him. Gianna was his mother. It's natural for him to take some time to accept it."
Caitlin knew well. "I know you're worried about his health. He's still injured, and being too upset isn't good for him."
Callie gave Caitlin a deep look. Caitlin was too compassionate. After all, Myron was Gianna's son. It was surprising that Caitlin could put aside past grievances and wholeheartedly care for him.
For some reason, Callie felt that Myron seemed different today.
She couldn't pinpoint exactly what was different, but something just felt off!
She feared that Caitlin, in her wholehearted devotion to Myron, might end up getting hurt.
"Mom, just be careful."
Caitlin looked at her daughter, seemingly understanding what she was hinting at, but didn't take it to heart. She believed Myron was different from Gianna.
Callie didn't say much more. She had other matters to attend to, so she left.
After leaving the hospital, she went to meet Principal Lopez. Last time, Principal Lopez had helped her out, so Callie invited her for breakfast.
They met at a cozy restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere.
...
Skyreach Corporation.
Shane arrived at the company, where Henry was already waiting for him.
The source of the message sent to Shane has been traced. "The exact location ID is at sea. I took some men to investigate. It was Damian's ship, which had been seized but was somehow taken out to sea again. I found a computer on board, along with the website that sent you the message. All clues point directly to the Robinson Family. In my opinion, they are likely behind this incident. Moreover, the current evidence also implicates them."
Shane sat behind his desk, leaning back slightly.
He heard every word Henry said but remained silent.
He was deep in thought.
Even if it was the Robinson Family who did this, what was their purpose?
What could they gain from Gianna's death?
Suddenly, Shane's eyes narrowed. Gianna was dead, but she had a son.
In an instant, he understood.
The other side lured him to the scene of Gianna's death to make Gianna's son, Myron, believe that Shane had killed her. Then they could use Myron against him.
By now, Myron must have already received evidence that Shane killed Gianna.
With today's advanced technology, the most direct and undeniable evidence comes from videos.
The incident at the scene had already been recorded and surely sent to Myron, along with the message that he was the one who committed the murder.
"We need to go to the hospital," Shane suddenly stood up.
"Why the hospital?" Henry was caught off guard.
Shane didn't have time to explain, "Just move."
"Alright," Henry followed.
They took the elevator downstairs, and as they walked out, Shane's phone rang. He answered it while walking, and Dina's voice came through, "Shane, it's me. Your aunt..."
Before she could finish, Shane hung up abruptly.
Less than a minute later, Henry's phone rang. It was Dina again, "Tell Shane that I have Lydia. If he doesn't pick up the phone, I'll destroy her right now."
Henry had no choice but to relay the message to Shane.
Shane halted, turning to look at Henry, "What did you say?"
Henry repeated the message, adding, "How did she come up with the idea to grab Lydia?"
Shane extended his hand. "Give me the phone."
He answered, his voice icy. "What do you want?"
Dina got straight to the point. "I heard that when you fell into the water, it was Lydia who saved you. If you had drowned that time, everything you have now would belong to my son. She ruined my plans. Do you think I would let her go?"
"State your demands," Shane said bluntly.
"Alright, since you're so straightforward, I won't beat around the bush. Lydia is your lifesaver, isn't she? How about I trade her for my son?" Dina proposed.
After finding Lydia, Dina learned that Lydia had feelings for Shane, so they had reached a cooperation agreement.
While executing this plan, Dina realized she could use this situation to negotiate with Shane to rescue her son.
"Your son isn't with me," Shane said, giving Henry a meaningful look. Henry immediately understood and quietly left to find someone to trace Dina's current location.
"Shane, you're a smart man, but I'm not stupid either. Even if you don't get involved, I can still rescue my son," Dina retorted.
Shane said, "And what if I refuse?"
"Then I'll find someone to ruin Lydia. Can you really bear to see her being trampled on? She's your savior, after all. Can you really stand by and do nothing?"
She made sure to emphasize the words "your savior."
For years, she had denied pushing Shane into the water, as there was no evidence. Now, she was indirectly admitting that she had done it.
But even if she hadn't said it, Shane had already known for a long time.
The reason things had remained peaceful for so many years was because Old Master Robinson was still around.
Now that the truth was out in the open, there was no point in hiding anymore.
Shane let out a cold laugh. "I think you dialed the wrong number. You should be calling the police."
With that, he hung up the phone.
Meanwhile, Henry had used the call to trace Dina's location.
"Take a team and go," Shane ordered.
Henry immediately set off.
They arrived half an hour later!
It was as if Dina had known they would find her. She didn't seem surprised to see them.
She smiled and said, "You got here quickly, faster than I expected. I thought it would take you at least an hour to find this place."
Shane didn't waste any words with her. Instead, he said directly, "It's true she saved my life, but if she dies today, I'll make sure she gets a nice grave."
With that, he turned to leave.
Dina's face hardened. "You really are heartless. You won't even save your own savior. Since you're so ruthless, I won't hold back either."
She clapped her hands, and the curtain behind her was pulled open, revealing a glass wall. Dina had gone to great lengths to find this place.
Behind the glass wall was Lydia, tied to a table with her arms and legs spread out in a large X shape. Six or seven burly men stood nearby.
"If you walk out that door, Lydia will be taken by these men, one by one," Dina said, tilting her head up.
Henry glanced at the scene, his eyelids drooping. He thought to himself, Dina, that wicked witch, so cruel and ruthless. She's a woman herself, yet she treats another girl like this. Does she even count as a human being? Isn't she afraid of karma?
Shane cast a glance at the scene, his expression remaining unchanged. "Do as you please," he said.
"Henry, let's go."
He started to walk away.
Dina immediately ordered her men to take action.
Lydia knew about the plan and had agreed to it with Dina. However, the men who approached her didn't seem to be acting. They tore at her clothes for real, and she screamed in terror!
"Ah—!"
