Chapter 50 - The Finale

We ate the chocolate cake that Kaede's mother had prepared for us. It was delicious, but my mother's cakes were still the best for me. After that, I went home. I did not find Zen in her house, but I still chose to clean every dirt that I saw inside her house. After all it was really my job to clean. I was not the type of maid who stopped doing the job when the boss was not around. Even I really despised her, I was still doing my job with professionalism.

The night came but no Zen came home. I was confident that she slept in Lura or Maybelle's house. It was her nature to sleep in others' house and I got used to it.

Our graduation day came, and everyone was so excited to touch and be proud of their diplomas. I saw Kaede with her mom and of course, with the Draco guy. At the back of my head, I was saying that Kaede was too choosy because she seemed to not like him. The guy was so perfect for her. To be honest, he deserved better. There were girls prettier and sexier than Kaede. But yeah, we could not teach the heart.

During our graduation, I was astonished when the Draco guy went to the stage as he claimed his medals. Dude, he was a cum laude! See, Kaede was very lucky, but she could not realize that. But more than that, I started wondering when we were in the middle of the graduation ceremony as I could not find the CINCO. They were not able to march and step on the stage. Dego was not able to receive his medals. Yes, he was a cum laude too. It was a very important day for all of us, but they were not there to celebrate their success as college students. All of us in our class passed the semesters and no one was left behind. I did not know why I suddenly felt that something happened to them at the mountain. Time waits for no one. I did not waste any time and decided to tell Kaede that CINCO was not around. Fortunately, it was a good thing that our adviser let us leave the ceremony. I really had a big respect to Professor Chao for hearing our plea.

The graduation ceremony was about to end when we left. We decided to tell the police that we climbed Mt. Head and that we saw a man-made hole there. The rescue operation started right away, but the police told us that we could not come with them because it could be too dangerous. It was very hard for us to just sit and wait. But we did not have any choice. Plus, it was getting darker. Kaede stayed with me, and we waited inside Zen's house.

"I really have a bad feeling about that mountain," I said annoyingly. I could not stop from walking to and fro in the balcony while Kaede and Draco were just watching me. Draco was with us the moment we left the campus and he never left us.

"Me too," Kaede uttered while Draco was just quiet.

"I don't believe that demons went to live there, but it seems that I want to believe now. Come to think of it, Mt. Head could be Mt. Death! Head. Death!"

"Shhh. Let's hope that they're safe." It was a good thing that Kaede was still optimistic. Her attitude towards the situation helped me to calm down even I was really overthinking negatively.

I chose to end the conversation there and I did not say anything again. We waited until nine in the evening, but we did not get any news about them. I told Kaede and Draco to sleep in my room, but they refused. We slept in the balcony, and I was lucky that they did not leave me alone in the house. I knew that they knew that I was really worried about Zen. I cared for Zen despite of the sharp words and painful things that she said to me. I still owed her a lot.

The night passed and a new morning came. A knock woke us up. When I opened the door, I saw her.

"What happened to you?!" I asked angrily. She made me worry and I really hated that feeling.

"T-there w-was a hole there," she answered before her tears started falling on her pale cheeks. It was the first time I saw her crying because of fear. It felt like my heart melt that moment. I immediately hugged her, and I never expected that I would cry too.

"You're safe now," I assured her. I never thought that I would see a bully crying because karma seemed to slap her. I already understood what happened to her the moment she said that there was a hole there. What she did came back to her. Karma is indeed a real b*tch.

"T-thank you, Miyara. Thank you for saving Kaede. I already regretted what I did to her. We planned to mislead her, but it got postponed when I saw a hole on the ground in Mt. Head. I grabbed the chance to push her there. But believe me, I don't have something to do with that hole! I don't know why it was there! The mountain is supposed to be a restricted area." Finally, she admitted her mistake. I thought it was Lura who pushed Kaede, but I was wrong. "Sorry for my rudeness, Miyara and Kaede."

I freed her from my hug and said, "Don't worry because I know how to forgive. Just give me some time. But for now, compose yourself and get up. That's not the Zen I know. C'mon, smile."

She wiped her tears and exclaimed, "Prepare my food, my maid!" My blood seemed to boil because of what she said. Plus, the moment she raised her right eyebrow was horrible. I almost pushed her when she smirked at me.

"Wait, ma'am."

"Just kidding HAHA! I will treat you fairly from now on," she said and smiled. I felt her sincerity.

I smiled at her. "Thanks, Zen."

"You don't need to thank me, but let's end the drama here. Kaede, I hope we'll be okay too."

"We will be." Kaede hugged her and that was the start of something new for us.

Because of what happened in Mt. Head, Zen changed. I did not know why it was that fast. Maybe realization hit her big time while she was inside the hole. Zen was actually lucky because Kaede did not get any head injury when she pushed her inside the hole on the ground. She told us how they accidentally fell in a different hole, the hole that was covered by green which was very unnoticeable. Ten people would fit inside it and it was much deeper. The police had rescued them but decided to spend the night at the mountain because it was better to leave the place during daytime.

But not all were like Zen because Marc and Lura stayed the way they were. In fact, Marc broke up with Zen after he had found out that she reconciled with Kaede and I. After Zen stopped doing vices and lowered her pride, Marc looked for another girl who was alcoholic, as well as a partygoer. Even Lura stayed the same; Dego never left her. But there was still a good thing about her even if she did not ask for forgiveness to Kaede. Lura stopped bullying Kaede.

Maybelle proved that she was a real friend to Kaede. They were actually friends for life. But who would have thought that Zen and I could be best friends? Well, we really became best friends. Nothing is impossible. People change. Zen definitely changed for the better. Her stepfather went to jail after she sued him in court. Most importantly, she forgave her mother and they got reunited.

About the two birds...Draco never left Kaede.

After a year of no news about my boyfriend, I had received a letter from him. We did not talk after the breakup. I did not see him again after the graduation. My boyfriend was a scholar in Corto University. He told me through the letter that it was true that he did not love me, and he admitted that he did it to them. He paid some people to dig nine holes with same depth that were scattered in different areas that were good for ten people. And there was one hole that was good for two people. The reason why he did it? He wanted to revenge for me. To make it clearer, he knew my sufferings and how I hated Zen. He fought my battle. Yes, he did not love me, so he broke up with me. We ended up as strangers, but I would not forget him.

John Paul, the basketball player, was my ex-boyfriend...And the reason why misleading Kaede went wrong.
