Chapter 33 Untitled Chapter
Chapter 33 Untitled Chapter
Sergio
Reality caught up with me faster than I thought it would. I wasn't ready for it, and I'm still not. This is the first time I left the house in the morning going into work and not being able to return. I didn't even stay long enough for the first meeting at the office before I was needed at the warehouse for an emergency meeting.
There had been an attack at our port just before a shipment has to arrive. How the police knew to get there before my guys could even retaliate is something we've all been seeking to know. Then I received a phone call from the Bordello cartel telling me that they also had an attack just after our shipment was sent.
I don't believe in coincidences. I don't know who is trying to steal from me and why they're trying so hard. Drugs and guns are easy to find if you know where to look. And this wasn't even my biggest shipment. And although Garcia said he wasn't transporting my shipment only, I know this was for me.
We're going on close to thirty-six hours without sleep. We've all gone longer than this, but this is my first time asking myself when I'm leaving to go back home to my wife and kid. I haven't even spoken to Angela since morning, which is not normal for me. But I'm thankful that everything is slowing down and soon I will be with them.
I've lost three soldiers, which may not seem like a lot but when you lose the people who you treated like family it is a lot. Luc, Harvey and Norman were three people who I knew personally and liked a lot. I had to anyway, seeing as I put them in charge of the most important part of my business, and we also ranked together way back when.
I don't know how I'm going to break it down to their families, which is something I must do before I head back home to my wife. It's one of the things I hate in my line of work, having to go to families to report a man down on duty. It's worse when those men were like brothers to you. I know the feeling of receiving news of grievance of a loved one when you least expect it.
Taking a shower in my office bathroom at the warehouse takes longer than necessary. After a short prayer for our fallen ones and our vows of protection, Holt joins me in the car as we go visit the first family to break down the news to them.
"Have you heard anything from Garcia so far?" He asks as soon as the car moves.
"Said he'd give me an update after twenty-four hours, they're cutting all communications with anyone from outside."
"Strange." He says the word in wonder.
I've also thought it strange, but I figure it's none of my business how they do their business just like how I do mine is none of theirs. But if I'm being honest, I've never heard of anyone cutting off people while trying to find solutions.
"Bruce find anything on the shooter?"
"Oh yeah, apparently he had a head-on collision with a truck. He's still trying to find out who he is though." He answers me.
"Dead?"
"On spot. He was also riding a bike."
I don't know if my day could get any worse than that because I wish I met the fucker before he died so that I be the one to send him to his death. I also want answers about who sent him to do a shoot out in my turf.
This whole thing is saying a lot about me right now though, it's saying that I'm losing my focus. Which is why I'm thinking of leaving the business world. It's taking up much of my attention. I will try to find someone else to take over from me together with all my other business ventures so I'm left with my illegitimate businesses only. This way also makes me have more time with my family.
"It makes things harder for us that way. It also pushes me more into going back to my past more than I'd like."
"Yeah, I was also thinking that." He answers just as we pull into Norman's driveway.
I mentally prepare myself as we walk towards the door and knock. I was not made to deal with emotions, especially crying women's emotions. I'm still learning to deal with Angela's.
When Juliana opens the door and sees us, she backs up back into the house shaking her head no as tears start to fall from her eyes. I can understand, it's not everyday that the Don comes to your house.
We follow her into the house, after she's settled her emotions we give her the news. Juliana is a strong woman, what she says to me when we leave doesn't surprise me at all.
"Find the man who killed my husband and bring me his head." Words of a woman who truly loved her husband.
The next two visits are more emotional and take longer than the first. When we get back to the warehouse for the final meeting of the day, I tell them to go on without me then go on back home. I am tired and I miss my wife. I'm probably going to find her asleep, seeing as it's almost nine.
When I walk into our bedroom, she jumps into my arms and holds me tight. "I've been so worried. Are you ok?"
I hold her tight and lift her and start walking towards the bed. "I am now." I tell her as I lay us on the bed.
The feeling of home, that's what I feel in her arms. A feeling I don't want to ever forget.

The following morning after our morning shower, she tells me about what has been going on. Giving me an update on the matter of our newfound daughters new name.
"She's taking it better than I thought she would, especially for her age." She tells me.
"I will also talk to her, maybe see if there are any lingering feelings she's not talking about." I tell her because I also want to know how she really feels. It also sounds to me that Angela thinks that maybe she's not being honest with her.
"Ok, maybe you'll be able to read her better than I have."
I don't get the opportunity to read her though, because just as we deacend the stairs for breakfast, Brian sends me an SOS saying he found something about the shooter that I need to see.
When I get to the warehouse, I'm hit with news I never thought I'd ever hear.
"Apparently the shooter was sent by the Don's son." He tells me as I sit down on my desk.
"The Don didn't have any children." I tell him.
"Well this one sent you a message saying that he wants what belongs to him. That what he did is just the beginning."
