Chapter 274 Chapter 274
Jojo
The rest of the week went by without any problems, we haven’t heard anything from Olivia, so Coop thinks she got the message, I was constantly on social media checking for stories and googling my name but nothing so far. It was Friday morning when I finally got the strength to speak to Christopher, Coop and Martin wasn’t really happy with me, but they let me go alone. Going alone to Christopher’s office was also a huge debate but here I am outside his office deciding if I really want to stoop to his level and go in but unfortunately for me he came walking out of his office and straight into me. “Joelle what are you doing here?” “I think we need to talk.” “I’m busy.” “I don’t really care.” I pushed past him and walked into his office. I heard him give a heavy sigh before he walked back into his office. “What can I help you with?” He asked clearly irritated. “Well, we need to speak about you calling my mom before even speaking to me.” He looked confused. “Why would I speak to you before I spoke to your mom?” “Because you knew I ran from them, you knew I was hiding from them.” “And how should I have known that?” He asked like I had a sign on my forehead that said stupid. “Christopher I’m not fucking dumb so please tell me why?” He looked up at the ceiling at then at the ground before he looked back at me. “I saw an opportunity.” “What kind of opportunity?” “Well to get your father and mother on my side and maybe get them a new firm.” “How did you know they needed one?” “My mother.” “What exactly did your mother tell you?” “I’m sure you don’t want to know.” “I do, please tell me.” “Well, she did tell my mom you ran away from home because you are pregnant.” “Okay.” Off course my mom will lead with that and not the real story. Like the fact that I wasn’t welcome at my own home anymore or the fact that my father assaulted me.
“Then she told my mom that Benjamin that was supposed to marry you was mingling in their business, she said it’s because you embarrassed him and disgraced his name that is why he is taking it out on them.” “So basically, everything is my fault and you thought bringing my father here to confront me will win you a client?” Again, he looked at everything except me. “Well yes if I told them where you are they might be so happy to find you that they will give me a chance.” “You are a junior associate my father would have never worked with you Christopher and you were getting him by giving him a secret. In my father’s eyes you are a coward.” That shocked Christopher he couldn’t believe I said something like that to him. He didn’t say anything but the look on his face said a lot. “Then why come here?” “Because he wanted to blame me that is why, he didn’t come here to give you the time of day because for one thing you showed him you can’t be trusted.” Christopher looked at me confused. “Don’t you get it?” “No, I really don’t. I was doing him a favor. How can he think I can’t be trusted.” “Okay and if you get another client and he will give you more money by telling him one thing about my father’s business, what guarantee does my father have that you won’t go blabbering his secrets to that client?” “You think that is why we didn’t get his business? You think he thought I would do something like that” “Fuck how did you became a lawyer? You didn’t get it because the Coopers won’t do business with my father, they told you this Howard told you this. But even if all of them said yes, my father would never have chosen you to work on his business never. So next time before you tell someone someone else’s secrets think about the consequences and not just for that person but for you and what it says about you.” “And what does it say about me?” “Really you still not getting it? I should really talk to the Coopers about your IQ.” “No need to be rude.” “I’m not rude. What it says about you is that you are not trustworthy full stop, that is what it says about you.” I turned around and walked out the door. He wasn’t worth more of my time. He tried to use my secret to get ahead in life, but it did the opposite.
As I open the door, I saw Martin standing a few feet away from the door. “What are you doing here?” “I…. I….. was on my way to the photocopier.” “Oh okay.” I smiled because I couldn’t be mad at him since I told him my story, he was extra nice to me and was keeping all drama away from me. “Well, are you done?” I asked him. “Are you?” “Yes, Martin I am.” “Well then I am.” We walked back to our office as we walked in Coop was sitting on my desk. “Can I help you Mr. Cooper?” I asked him with a smile on my face. “I take it it went, okay?” “Yes, I said what was needed to be said but I do have a question.” “For me?” “Yes, for whoever appointed him.” “Okay shoot.” “What is his IQ and why did you appoint him his very slow.” That made Coop and Martin laugh. Coop pulled me towards him and hugged me. “I will investigate who appointed him angel.” “You ready to go home?” “I am.” “Martin you can leave as well and then we will be late on Monday morning they are starting on the new office in our apartment.” I almost fell backwards when he said our apartment. “No problem.” Martin said smiling also catching on to ‘the our apartment’ phrase.
