Five Years Later It's been five years since I moved away from Los Angeles. A month and a half after I moved to Miami I found out I was pregnant with Hayden's child. I was in the waiting room at the Doctors when I picked up a magazine and saw a picture of Hayden with his arms wrapped around two woman. He had a smile on his face and a pair of designer sunglasses on. He still looks the same as he did that night in Los Angeles. The doctor walked out of his office. "Juliet Christian." He called. I rose and followed him to his office. I sit across from him. He looked at me. "What can I do for you this morning?" "I think I'm pregnant," I tell him when I had my last period. He said. "I have to send you to the nurse's station and they will take a blood test. You will have to come back in a couple of days for the results." He wrote something on a piece of paper and he gave it to me. I walked out of the office and went to the nurse's station. I gave them a piece of paper. The nurse said. "Get on the bed. I will take your blood now." I climbed onto the bed a nurse got the needle ready with a vile. She put the needle into my arm and she withdrew my blood. She wrote my name on the vile. I checked the details before she put it with other tests. "The results will be in, in a few days." "Thanks," I climbed off the bed and I walked to the door. "Mom," Keira my four year old called. "Can we go to the beach?" I climb out of bed. "Okay, get your stuff ready and meet in the kitchen. We're going to have breakfast out." "Yay!" She yells. "Mom, I can't find my flip flops." I walk into her room and I find them under her bed. I pull them out for her. "Here they are. Do you need anything else? I need to get ready." She holds up her bathing suit. "Can you put this on me?" I place the bathing suit on the bed and I change her. I put the suit on her. I pick up the dress she had on her bed and put that on her as well. "Thanks, Mommy." She walks to her draw and puts a pair of underwear in the bag. I taught her well. I kiss her cheek. "Give me fifteen minutes and then we go." I walk back to my room and I put a bathing suit into a bag. I change into a dress and put flip flops on. In the kitchen, I put things in a backpack that is going to need for Keira. I pull out two bottles of water from the fridge and put in the bag with some fruit. Keira walks into the kitchen with a doll in her hand. "Can we go now?" I lock the Windows before we leave. I pick up my keys from the hook behind the door. I take Keira's hand. "I'm ready." "Finally," she mutters. I laugh. Keira's face turns red. "Sorry, Mom." I kneel at her height. "That's alright, sweetheart. What do you want to do at the beach?" "I want to go swimming, make a sandcastle and get some ice cream." I lock the front door. Keira holds onto the railing as we walk down three flights of stairs. She stops in front of the white minivan that I own. I unlock the door and she climbs into the back. I buckle her in and close the door. I climb into the front seat. I put the child lock on the door. I start the car and pull out of the parking lot of the apartment building. At the beach I unbuckle Keira. She picks up her bucket, spade and fork. "Can we make a castle now?" I shake my head. "I need to get changed first. Do you need to go to the restroom?" "I don't need to go, Mommy." She takes my hand and we walk to the restroom. I open a door and step inside the stall. "Try to go to the toilet, princes." Keira sits on the toilet and she swings her legs. I quickly change into my bathing suit. Keira starts to sing and she uses the toilet. When she's done she flushes the toilet. "Can we make a sandcastle now?" "Wash your hands first and then we can make the sandcastle." I turn the tap on for her and she washes her hands. Before we leave the restroom I put sunscreen on Keira and I. I wash my hands. Keira pulls me out the door and we make our way down the sand. She stops close to the water and sits in the sand. She fills up the bucket. I put out stuff on the ground close to us. I start digging the sand and make a small hole." Keira looks at what I'm doing. "What are you doing, Mom?" "I'm making a hole around the castle, so we can have water around it." She smiles. "Good," Keira tips the bucket upside down and makes the castle. The sand begins to fall making the castle break. She picks up wet sand and throws it at it. "Stupid castle." "Language, Keira Maybella Christiansen." "Can we go swimming?" A group of guys in suits make their way to the water. They have earpieces in their ears. They begin to separate and Hayden steps through them. Damn, I forgot he was in town for a conference. I hope he doesn't see us. My heart begins to race as he runs into the water. He dives under a wave. He rises and shakes his head and waterfalls around him. I lift Kiera up and I take her away from where Hayden is swimming. I don't want him to see us. Kiera and I walk into the water. She begins to scream. "It's cold, Mom." I lift her up and put her on my hip. I walk further into the water. A wave crashes onto me, wetting Kiera and I. She laughs. "More," I walk further in. The water stops at my hips and another wave breaks close to us. I look at Kiera. "On the count of three, I want you to hold your breath. We're going under the water." "Okay," "One, two, three." I duck underneath the water and I rise with Kiera on my hips. She wipes her eyes. "Again." I hear some girls scream and they swim over to Hayden. Hayden holds onto a girl and he whispers something to her and her face lights up. She's an idiot. I wonder how many girls he's gotten pregnant. Or am I the only one that he managed to knock up. I shake my head. Why do I care so much about this? I look at my beautiful four-year-old and she smiles. "Can we get some ice cream? It's too noisy now." I laugh. "I agree. What kind of ice cream do you want?" "Chocolate," I carry her out of the water. I pick up our towels and wrap it around us. I take one last look at Hayden before we walk away.
