Chapter 45 BFF
SIANNA'S POV
"Hailey, what's wrong?" Every cell in my body alerted me at the sight of her sobbing, and I became protective because I wanted to know who had meddled with her.
She flew herself at me, throwing her arms around me so that I staggered backward slightly to catch her. Her swift movement had alarmed Vance, but he retreated from tossing her from me when I stopped him with my palm.
Hailey continued to sob and I held her there for a minute. Vance took out the house keys and turned the lock, opening the door to call us in.
We walked slowly up four steps to the porch, through the foyer, and sat on the couch. Then he picked up her bag from the porch and came in behind us.
"Honey, what's wrong?" I repeated.
Vance went to the guestroom and came back with a box of tissues, handing it to me to dry her tears. She took it and wiped her face through hitched sobs.
Her eyes found mine. I looked at Vance for him to leave us to ourselves and he exited the room, going to his study, giving us the deserved girl time. Hailey swallowed and cleared her throat so that her voice was unrestrained.
"Raj and I fought this morning." She inhaled deeply and then exhaled. "He said he had to work late, so I went to bed without him. What woke me up from my sleep was a sharp pain in my abdomen and across my chest."
I held her hands as she continued "It felt like I was having a stroke, so I tried calling him on the mind-link and even on the phone. He didn't answer me, so I went downstairs to the study where he said he'd be with the Alpha. But...." Her lips quivered as the rain of tears started again.
"When I got to the office and knocked, no one answered, so I opened the door. That's when I heard the moans and saw Adhira riding him on the desk." The wailing sounds of her cries etched my ears. I would definitely kick his ass if he was in this pack. She leaned her head on my shoulder.
"I stood in the doorway, shocked out of my shoes. I was in pain and he didn't care. They kept fucking as if I wasn't even there. So I went upstairs and grabbed a few things and came here." Half of what she said was mumbled but I deciphered what I could. "I'm so sorry," I rubbed her back, trying to comfort her. "We will get through it. We'll talk to Raj and find out what happened." "What do you mean about talking to Raj about what happened," She pulled several tissues from the box and crumbled them in her hands, "He was fucking his ex. He had feelings for her all this time and he has been lying to me."
She dried her tears again. "Everyday his mother found some way to rub Adhira in my face. They are always together and she throws her at Raj."
"Who is she, Hailey?"
"Adhira? An Indian she-wolf and they were engaged. They even set a wedding day, but Raj said he preferred to meet his mate, so that's why he went to all the mating ceremonies except last year." She blew her nose. "She's the cream of the crop, the queen on his mother's pedestal."
"Did you talk to Raj about the situation?" I wondered if they spoke in the few hours that she left their territory.
"He broke up with her after we mated and he marked me. She refuses to walk away and his mother says Indians should be with their kind." She paused as if lost in thoughts. "Raj said that his mother would accept me in time. But he's the one who hurt me." Hailey shook her head, "I can't talk to him."
"I'm sorry, honey," I was on the verge of being mad with Raj because I hated that he made Hailey cry.
"Sianna, he broke my heart." She uttered, "I am going to reject him and end things. It's over."
My heart ached for her. How could that asshole do this to my girl? I was angry now. No one was allowed to hurt my bestie. I wanted to give him a piece of my mind. And I will because I am going to call him.
Vance peeked out his head from his study and I turned to give him a fake smile. He was feeling my emotions through the mate bond, so I knew that he was worried. "We're good."
Not convinced, but he knew that Hailey and I had to be alone. He sighed and went back to his study.
I listened to her as she gave me the full details of how his mother complained about everything she did.
She even told the Luna Gena and Alpha Juan of her shortcomings. "Every single day I bust myself to try harder, but Adhira and the Luna are best friends."
"What if I went there with you and stayed for a few days," I suggested. A rolling growl of objection came from the study, Hailey and I ignored it.
"No, because I can't win. I don't like stress. It's frustrating and all he says is.....it'll be fine, just give it time." She laid down clutching a cushion to her tummy, with her knees bent. "He finally had sex with her. He probably wanted to keep us both."
"I will talk to Raj and find out why he cheated." The Raj that I met over the phone adored Hailey, so what game was he playing?" Let me take you upstairs." Slowly she got up and trudged up the stairs with me as we made it to one of the guest bedrooms on the left, "I'll heat some food for you so go and grab a shower."
I went to the master bedroom and took out one of my nightgowns, threw it over my shoulders, then strolled down to the kitchen. Some pasta and boiled potatoes with baked chicken were there from yesterday, so I heated it and poured the juice into a glass and placed it on the tray.
Perhaps in this state of mind, she'll pick at her food due to a lack of appetite arising from the abominable events in her life. Vance met me on my way out and took the tray from me as we went back upstairs.
He gave me a concerned look. I knew that he overheard most of it, and he was also fuming internally because she was his Beta's sister who Raj toyed with. I can imagine an enraged Duke when this comes to his knowledge.
"Do you want me to send for Raj so that Duke can fuck him up?" He was trying to give Hailey reparation.
"Hailey should be the one to make that decision, although I know that once Duke learns of this, there would be no holding him back from giving a smack down to Raj." I countered.
I paused at the guest room door, gave it a knock, and took the tray from Vance. "I'll be there shortly," I told him. He nodded and walked into our master bedroom.
Entering the room, I proceeded to give Hailey the meal. She was lying on the bed and wrapped in a towel, sulking.
"Please eat. You need your strength and get some rest. Don't think about him tonight, okay?" I settled the tray on the small table in one corner of the room. She got up and sat around it, flipping over the potatoes but not putting any of them in her mouth.
"Hailey, come one. Please eat," I begged. She nodded and the first bite went in as she munched slowly. "He isn't worth the way that you are being hard on yourself. You are a great woman and it is his loss."
She nodded, silently.
"I have to go to bed with Vance, but if you need me, I'm down the hall." She nodded again, unable to speak anything else.
As I turned the doorknob to leave her, she quickly said, "I blocked him so he might call the pack's phone."
"Okay. I know that you aren't going to talk to him right now, but we'll get to the bottom of it. I love you." Spending the night with her would provide solace, but Vance would be grumpy if he had to sleep without me. With that in mind, I went straight to my proprietorial mate.
I entered our room and began undressing. I headed to the bathroom and he followed suit. I explained parts of the conversation that missed him while he eavesdropped from the study.
He punched a hole in the wall, very well wishing that it was Raj's face. Vance had to go to a council meeting tomorrow so he would not be in the pack. But one thing was for sure, hell was about to break loose on the White Clovers Pack if Raj couldn't validly explain his infidelity.
