Chapter 56: Noisy guests

Chapter 56: Noisy guests
We walked back home, hand in hand, goofy smiles on our faces as the thoughts of our steamy escapades just moments earlier, lingered in our minds.

“This might be the best date in history, if I do say so myself,” Nicholas said, smiling to himself.

I chuckled and shook my head, “So are all of our future dates going to end in sex?”

He feigned deep contemplation for a moment, before nodding enthusiastically. “Of course. And it’s all also for academic purposes so it’s a requirement!”

“Academic purposes?”

“Yes! A writer writes best when they’ve experience something… and I intend to fill your days with all sorts of experiences,” he said, leaning in and kissing my lips tenderly. It felt so normal. In this moment we weren’t a Lycan King and his human mate. We were just two people enjoying an afternoon stroll.

By the time we’d reached Theo’s humble abode, we noticed a rather luxurious car parked right behind Theo’s. Immediately, Nicholas’ mood soured, and he let out a soft growl. I squeezed his hand a little tighter and smiled up at him. His shoulders relaxed slightly, and he smiled back.

“Let’s get this over with,” he said. I shared the exact sentiment, nowhere near fond of Aura.

The moment we entered the house, we noticed how deathly quiet it was. Nicholas and I both shared suspicious looks but continued further into the house until we heard it. The sound of moaning.

“Is that…?”

“But who?” I asked.

It was then that Theo graced us with his presence and the moment I saw the irritated look on his face I knew exactly who it was.

“Are they rabbits or something? The two have been at it since the moment they came here!”

“Who?” Nicholas asked, genuinely still clueless.

“Aura and Parker,” I said, a smirk on my face.

Nicholas scrunched up his nose in disgust and shook his head, “You’ve got to be kidding me… there’s no way…”

Theo shook his head vigorously and said, “I wish I had no ears!”

“So,” I began curiously, “where is everyone else then?”

Theo then led us both into the backyard to where Melissa, Ophelia and Kiyan sat, each busying themselves with some lemonade and soaking in the sun.

“So I take it you haven’t been able to stop them?” Kiyan asked.

Theo sighed deeply and shook his head, “At this point I think the situation calls for some lightning. Kicking me out of my own home is just too far!”

Nicholas gazed around before pointing towards himself. Everyone else nodded in agreement. He shrugged and then lifted his hands towards the window.

“Try not to damage my house!” Theo said.

While Nicholas got ready to release his bolt of lightning, Ophelia pulled me aside and grabbed me in a tight embrace.

“I’m so sorry!” She whispered, softly stroking my hair. I immediately wrapped my arms around her too, melting into the comfort of her embrace. “You’ve been through so much in such a small amount of time and I regret that I couldn’t be there for you the way I should have been.”

I could see Kiyan staring at us curiously, his gaze slightly soft and regretful. He’d changed, and so had I.

I pulled away from Ophelia and smiled, tears pooling at the lower lids of my eyes, “At some point I was going to have to learn to live without you. You’ve always protected me wherever you could. And even now, when you realised I was in trouble, you dropped everything and came right here to make sure I was okay.”

Ophelia had tears rolling down her face and was about to say something when a white flash of lightning illuminated the entire backyard and a loud rumble of thunder accompanied it. We heard screams from one of the rooms inside, and shortly after, a very dishevelled looking Aura came out of the back door, Parker right behind her. He looked so different. Immensely healthier and stronger and much happier for reasons which were very much known. Even Aura looked… happy.

“What the fuck! Can’t people enjoy some intimate time together?” she said, rather frustrated.

“Not in my house no! You guys can go be nasty someplace else! There’s a lovely hotel down the road a few blocks away and I’m sure the people there would love to hear you both banging.”

Aura’s face suddenly went red, and she looked at her feet bashfully.

“Sorry…” Parker said, genuinely looking remorseful. He was perhaps Aura’s only saving grace against her brother’s rage. Theo sighed deeply and shook his head.

“Now perhaps we can discuss what we need to. The plan forward?”

We all sat around the dining table, engaged in a heated debate about what our next plan would be. Aura rather boldly suggested that we handle the matter aggressively, though in a manner that neither Parker nor I could agree to.

“Why don’t we tighten the reigns, arrange curfews, restrict humans more and halt the process of incorporating the humans into the education system.”

Surprisingly however, Parker was faster than I was to contend with Aura.

“So what, we just push them into servitude again? By that logic, why don’t you just send me back to Stacy and let her leash me around again if it will help you.” I’d never heard him speak this way before and to witness Aura’s face fill with regret and sadness was truly a sight to see.

“I’m sorry… I wasn’t thinking clearly, and I was being inconsiderate.” She said in a soft, genuine voice. Again, I was taken aback. That look of care in her eyes was foreign and almost unsightly.

Parker’s previous anger was immediately replaced by something softer and gentler, and he walked up to her and pulled her closer to him.

“It’s alright, but maybe next time let’s try to think of a more progressive way to tackle the problem. Aggression always breeds more aggression,” he whispered against the top of her head. He was so soft and gentle with her, and it allowed me to see a side of her I’d never seen before. A side where she didn’t have to attack first or hide herself behind a wall of intimidation. It was an almost vulnerable side. And then when I looked at Parker, he seemed so much more confident and certain of himself. I couldn’t help but think about how much they seemed to bring out the best in each other. Slowly my eyes landed on Nicholas’, only to find that he’d been looking at me the entire time, eyes fixed, entranced almost. I smiled and he smiled back, finally ready to divulge what I’d been waiting to this entire time.

“I have a better idea. If Dante is going to resort to such dramatic measures, I think we should do the same. Let’s completely abolish the servitude rule for every single human. And…” I looked towards Nicholas before nodding to my self and continuing, “Nicholas and I should get married.”
