Chapter 19 ~Truth or Dare?~

Chapter 19 ~Truth or Dare?~
Fiona's POV

It was Yara's first day coming to Northvale, but for some reason, I was more nervous about it than her.

Xander was driving us in his Ford Mustang, ‘All Night Long’ by Beyoncé was playing in the car stereo.

“Like I said, it might be difficult fitting in, but with time, I'm sure you'll be good.” I turned to the back seat where she was sitting.

“Luna, I'm good. I got it.” She smiled with arched eyebrows.

Maybe I was overthinking it all, because I was a school wallpaper… well, before Xander. But that didn't mean she'd be too. “And hey, call me Fiona at school, not Luna.”

“You can call me Alpha, though.” Xander added sarcastically.

I playfully nudged him, and we all laughed.

The school's parking lot was almost full, but Xander managed to find a space.

“Yup, gotta go to my AP government class.” Xander said as soon as we got out.

“Okay, see you at lunch break.” I grinned at him.

“Nah, I got some weird counseling bullshit the principal put me through, so I'm afraid, milady, but I'll be unavailable during lunch.”

I scrunched my nose in disappointment. “Seriously… no!”

Xander smirked. “Come on now, you've got Yara.”

I turned to Yara, who was already looking mock-offended, with her arms folded.

“Yeah, of course I got Yara. I love Yara.” hehe.

“Yeah, so you guys have fun. But not too much fun.”

“Sure.” I snickered.

As I walked with Yara through the hallways to get to the class, I instantly noticed the curious glances thrown in our direction.

This was weird.

Then I noticed what was happening when some boy whistled. “Damn!”

They were looking at Yara, they found her beautiful.

“Who's the new chick?” Someone called out, winking.

“Your mama,” Yara responded without looking back.

The hallway erupted into laughter, even I snorted a laugh.

Well, there we have it. I don't think I had anything to worry about her wellbeing.

As we got to the class, I looked round for a chair for Yara.

Before I returned, my nerdy seat mate, Lan, had already given up his chair for her.

I stood dumbfounded as I wondered what sorcery Yara was using.

I mindlinked her. Yara, what the hell is happening?

I don't care. She responded with a smirk across her face.

I turned to Lan, who had now found a chair behind. “Thanks, Lan.”

“Sure thing,” He responded, smiling with teeth full of braces. “Is that your friend?”

He whispered to me, discreetly. I nodded.

“I really like her. Can you link us together?” He asked, pushing up his glasses with a finger.

Link? “Um… I'll- I'll ask her, okay?” I stuttered, wondering how best to politely tell him Calvin would ruin whatever was left of his sight.

During lunch, I sat with Yara and we discussed a creative writing assignment we were given.

“Lowkey Imma just write ‘the first day I shifted’ for the assignment.” Yara said, yawning.

I glanced at her, stupefied.

“What? It was a pivotal moment in my life, wasn't it?” She asked.

“You could write about the first time you fell in love. That's a moment that changed your life.” I opted.

“Yeah… I don't think Mrs. Potter wants to hear a high schooler's love story.”

As we were talking, Brianna, Jasmin and Frances walked in on us.

Remember the three plastics from the other day? Yeah… they were here, seated on the table across from ours, their jewellery blinding our eyes.

What could they possibly want now?

“Hey babes.” They spoke simultaneously.

Yara mindlinked me, her face scrunched up in apprehension. And these are?

Yara, just play along. I sighed, tiredly.

“Hey babes!” Yara and I responded in sync.

“So, we saw you earlier in the hallway,” Brianna said, referring to Yara. “And I was like, you have such good form, why not join the school cheerleading team?”

Urgh! Not this again. I facepalmed, not caring if they saw.

“Yeah, sure.” Yara shrugged.

What! ‘Yeah, sure’? I turned to glare at Yara. She looked back at me like ‘what?’

Brianna smiled. Frances turned to me. “Now it's just Fiona, come on, don't be a spoilsport.” She coerced.

“Yeah, sure.” I gave in. “Why not?”

“Yeah!” they celebrated in unison.

We're cooked.

As they stood up to leave, Jasmin said with that same plastic smile. “Okay babes, don't forget to come to the party at mine's today, 7 p.m. Don't be late.”

Their heels clicked in unison as they left.

“What the hell, they have a freaking-ass party.” I turned to Yara.

“Yeah, and we're going Lun… I mean Fiona.”

“No, we're not.”

For one, I planned to visit my stepdad and mom today after school.

“What's the worst that can happen?” Yara stressed.

Maybe she was right. The visit could wait, but…

“Good luck convincing Xander to let us go out to some night party.”

“Who says we're gonna tell him?" Yara smiled at me suggestively. “... hm?”

And here I was, in Jasmin's house for a night party in a peach slip dress.

And what a big ass house it was… I mean, Xander's is bigger, but this one was kinda more of a luxury villa and it had an infinity pool.

Someone pushed off from the starting block and landed in the swimming pool, splashing water on us.

“Come on!” Yara protested, a little jokingly.

The kids inside were doing Molly, making out and god knows what else. My head was banging with music. But I hated to admit… It was kinda fun.

Brianna walked up to us looking a little high. “Are you guys having fun?”

“Let's play truth and dare.” Someone suggested.

“Yeah, let's do that.” Brianna seconded.

I glanced at Yara. No way in hell I'm playing truth or dare with these drunk hormonal teenagers.

But then, did I have a choice?

We gathered round on the terrace, under the dim maroon lighting. By now, I'd had a few shots of tequila and was feeling slightly dizzy.

“So, who's next?” Frances yelled over the loud ‘WAP’ playing in the background. “It's Jasmin.”

Jasmin giggled. “Dare.”

“I dare you to take five things off your body.” Some guy, Josh, or was it Joe, said.

In the background, someone was throwing up violently.

“Okay, that I can do.” We watched as Jasmin took off her boots, earrings, her claw clip, contact lens and yup… her bra.

The guys hollered loudly.

“Done. Yara's next.”

“Dare.” Yara shrugged.

I dare you to make out with Leo for three minutes.

I got nervous on Yara's behalf. Leo was already advancing towards her.

She brushed him aside when he came closer. “Nah, I'll pass. Heard he has herpes.”

Everyone gasped.

“No, I don't,” Leo protested, his cheeks coloring red. “That was shingles.”

“Still. I'll pass.” Yara scrunched her face, taking a shot.

Wow! Yara, the supreme.

“Fair enough.” Brianna shrugged.

“Ohhh… it's Fiona's turn.” Jasmin cooed.

“Truth.” Yes guys, I'm a coward.

“Oh, so boring.” Someone teased me.

“No, it's not.” Frances smiled evilly. “So.. Fiona, what's Xander's size down there?”

“Oww.” They all screamed.

This is what my life had become, huh, Fiona Hepburn?

“Fiona!” someone called from inside the moment I was about to speak. “Your phone.”

I stood up instantly. I gave someone my phone to plug and watch for me. “I'm coming guys.”

They all groaned, expecting to hear the tea.

I rushed in. “What is it?”

“Your phone has been ringing. I looked everywhere for you.” The girl said.

Her heart rate increased. If it was Xander…

We hadn't told them we were coming out.

“Here.” She handed me my phone.

I looked at the caller I.D. “Dad?”

I picked the call.

“Fiona, I've been calling you. Where have you been?” He sounded alarmed. I shuffled my feet.

“I'm sorry, I just-”

“Where are you? There's loud music in the background?” He interrupted.

“I just- It's um… Why did you call? Is there any problem?” I diverted.

The beat of the music dropped and what he said next made me spin around to get my bag.

“It's your mom, she's.. I don't know. I think you should come here.”
