Fifty Four
The moment Ethan stepped towards Eva with the syringe with the milky substance in it, Eva let out a warning growl, her eyes flashing a predatory yellow as Kalla pushed to try and take over. Eva knew Kalla was the stronger form but the wolfsbane still hadn’t cleared her system fully and there was no chance she'd be able to take on three full-strength males in either form. That didn’t stop Eva from kicking out when Ethan got close, the heel of her boot slamming into his knee with a sickening snap.
Ethan howled in pain, his leg bent at an angle as he staggered back from the force, his eyes flashing at the female in rage, baring his teeth as he seemed to struggle to keep control of his wolf. Breathing in deeply, Ethan stilled, his eyes closing as he calmed himself down as if flipping a switch inside of him. After a moment, he pushed his leg back into place with another sickening crack before it healed at the wrong angle. The sound was enough to make Eva's stomach turn and she even felt bile rise in her throat. She forced it down, glaring at the maniac before her.
“Come near me again and next time it’ll be more than just a busted knee.” Eva snarled, challenging Ethan to try anything.
“Any here was me thinking you’d be a good girl and accept defeat.” Ethan tsked, his eyes flicking away from Eva to the two rogues standing by. “Tie her legs down. We’ve wasted enough time.”
Eva attempted to struggle as the two massive males stalked towards her, leering like two hungry dogs over a piece of meat. What strength Eva had left was wasted easily as the stronger males pinned her legs down, using more zip ties to make sure her ankles were bound to the chair legs.
“Much better.” Ethan sneared, his eyes cruel and dark despite their warm chocolate brown colour. “Now this won’t hurt one bit, unfortunately.”
Ethan’s free hand grabbed Eva’s by the hair, yanking her head back painfully and making Eva wince as her scalp felt like it was on fire. Before she could react, the syringe was pushed into her neck and the milky substance plunged into her system.
“See? You made a fuss over nothing.” Ethan cooed mockingly. “Now for Daniel’s dose.”
The Alpha was still out cold and Eva was starting to worry that Ethan and his cronies had given Daniel too much Wolfsbane. While Alpha's were far more resilient than those of lower ranking, it didn't mean they were invincible. He didn't so much as flinch when Ethan injected him with the poison, Eva's heart racing as she watched on helplessly. Unlike with Eva, Daniel simply had his hands tied behind his back, probably from when they initially took him down but made no move to restrain him further.
"Unfortunately it's going to take at least an hour for your drug to kick in." Ethan finally announced. "But not to worry, we will give you a little alone time since it's the last you'll be getting together."
Eva just glared at Ethan whilst he and his followers left. The first thing Eva was doing when she got her hands on Ethan was punching that smug smile off his face. The rage in her roiled in her depths, her eyes leaving the door the males had left through to look at Daniel who still hadn't made a sound. If it weren't for the fact she could hear the Alpha's heartbeat and see his chest rising and falling, she would have thought he was dead. The thought alone made her shudder. If Ethan was successful with his plan then Daniel was a dead man and Eva doubted her fate was any different.
"Get your strength back." She muttered to herself, realising she had stupidly wasted her energy on trying to escape Ethan's clutches only to fail.
She had less than an hour before whatever Ethan had given her kicked in but she wasn't sure how long it would be before Daniel came too and when he did, if he'd be under the influence of the strange purple liquid Ethan had given him.
There was no way to guess what the time was or how much longer Eva had left. She just prayed that she could get her strength back up in time. Her wrists had thankfully pretty much healed and all that remained were faint marks that would be gone eventually. It was what was in her system that worried her. She didn't know how much Wolfsbane Ethan had given her and she didn't want to risk testing her strength until she absolutely needed to.
It occured to Eva that if Daniel did succumb to the drug Ethan had given him then Eva would be in big trouble. She wouldn't be able to overpower Daniel. Instead she needed to get out and either take down Ethan or find a way of getting help. The latter would be better but Eva was acutely aware that she had no idea where she was or how she would raise the alarm given that they weren't on pack land and she didn't have a phone on her.
Killing Ethan meant he wouldn't be able to harm anymore people. Eva knew it was a suicide mission given her slightly weakened state and Ethan proving to be cunning and stronger but it was starting to feel like her only option.
"Okay Kalla," Eva sighed. "We need to get out of this chair before Daniel wakes up."
She felt Kalla agreeing with her, the she-wolf unhappy with being drugged. Eva closed her eyes, focusing on clearing her mind and trying to connect with Kalla through the fog created by the Wolfsbane. The darkness that stretched between Eva and her wolf counterpart seemed thick and sticky like molasses, pressing down from all corners. Eva had never experienced Wolfsbane before so this was a new experience and one Eva never wanted to experience again. It felt like it was suffocating her and yet she could only imagine what it felt like for Daniel who had been given a hell of a lot more.
Just as it felt like she was getting somewhere, Eva froze when she felt the first licks of flames ignite deep within her. The heat seemed to start like an old furnace, the heat carried by the blood in her veins just like a radiator system. She didn't have to guess what was happening as she was familiar with the first signs of her heat, her body shuddering as her clothes suddenly felt too tight and her skin reacted to every little thing.
"No, no, no, no…." Eva panted as her eyes flew open and she twisted against the restraints, whimpering as a flash of cool air scuttled across her bare arms, sending delicious chills everywhere. "It can't have been an hour!"
"I'm afraid it has." Ethan's voice echoed through the darkness. "Right on time as well. I must remember to give that witch a little something extra for her good work."
Eva bit her bottom lip trying to tame her racing heart as she felt Kalla pacing restlessly in the back of her mind like a caged animal. It occurred to her now that Kalla would succumb to her basal instincts if she let the wolf takeover but she needed her strength if she was going to get free and stop Ethan before he killed Daniel.
"I can see you're fighting it Eva," Ethan chuckled brushing his knuckles against Eva's bare arm making her shudder. "Just give in. It will be far less painless. And who knows? Maybe I'll let you fuck your boyfriend one more time before I kill you both."
Eva growled, her eyes flashing yellow as Kalla reacted to her mate being threatened. It was just the burst of incentive she needed and Eva felt her wolf's strength flood her veins, giving her the power to snap the ties around her right wrist. Without a moment's hesitation, she grabbed Ethan's hand that was touching her, twisting it quickly into an awkward angle until the bone snapped and Ethan roared in agony.
"Not if I kill you first." Eva snarled and snapped the remaining ties with ease.
Eva was on Ethan in a flash, knocking the male's feet out from under him. Ethan seemed prepared this time, rolling out of the way before lunging at Eva with a snarl. She was able to dodge but yelped when Ethan's claws still managed to catch her arm. Snarling, Eva whipped around, landing two jabs to Ethan's ribs and landing another to his throat. It was enough to disarm the male, his face going red as he stumbled back, trying to take a breath.
Eva wasn't about to let Ethan recover or get away. Growling, she stalked after Ethan as collapsed into the wet earth.
"I won't let you get away with this." She hissed, letting Kalla through just enough so her nails began to lengthen into claws.
"You don't have much of a choice!" Ethan rasped, sneering at Eva as a deafening growl erupted from behind her.
