Chapter Fifty-Four: Bound in Heat

Chapter Fifty-Four: Bound in Heat
Faith had barely turned from him when David’s hand shot out, seizing her wrist. The heat in his grip was different now  not just the warmth of healed flesh, but something deeper, coiled tight and ready to strike.

“Not done,” he growled, voice low enough to vibrate in her bones.

Before she could answer, he pulled her back into him, his body already rising with the strength the ritual had returned to him. She caught herself against his chest, and his scent flooded her senses cedar, rain, and the faint tang of blood. Her wolf howled in response.

“This bond,” he murmured, eyes locked on hers, “you think it can end halfway?”

Her heart slammed against her ribs, but not from fear. The bond between them raw from the ritual  pulsed with a heat that no healer’s magic could disguise. It was alive, alive in a way that demanded more.

He pulled her into his lap, their bodies aligning with the ease of long practice, but there was nothing languid about it now. The mate bond didn’t hum gently it roared, thick with the primal need to finishwhat the ritual had begun.

Faith felt it the moment their wolves touched not in the soft way they sometimes brushed against each other in dreams, but in a full, crashing merge. Her wolf bared her teeth in delight, pressing into his, recognizing him not only as mate but as something unshakable and unmovable.

The power from the healing still swirled between them, turning into a molten heat that licked at every nerve. Her hands braced on his shoulders, nails digging in, grounding herself as his palms traced slow, claiming lines down her back.

“This is… different,” she managed, her voice breaking on a gasp as the bond flared again.

“It’s ours,” David said, before claiming her mouth.

The kiss wasn’t tender it was fierce and consuming. She could feel the echo of the ritual’s magic sparking through it, every touch amplifying the connection until it was almost unbearable. His tongue tangled with hers, their breathing ragged, the air between them charged like a storm breaking.

Faith broke from his lips only long enough to whisper, “David…”

“Don’t stop,” he said, and there was no command in it this time just raw need and raw hunger.

Their wolves moved as one, urging their bodies into a rhythm older than language. The mate bond responded instantly, a spiral of heat and energy tightening with each movement, binding them in ways even Elder Nareen’s warnings hadn’t prepared her for.

Her fingers tangled in his hair, pulling him closer, their foreheads pressing together between kisses. Every shift of his hips sent another surge of power rolling through her, mixing pleasure with the lingering ache of the ritual until she couldn’t separate the two.

She felt him everywhere in her skin, her bones, the steady thrum of his heartbeat echoing inside her chest as if they shared it.

“Look at me,” he rasped.

She did, and the world narrowed to gold-flecked irises and the heat that lived there. He was beautiful in his fury, in his strength, in the way he held her like he would burn the whole world before letting her go.

Their bond flared white-hot. Faith cried out as the magic in it cracked open wider, flooding her senses with him every thought, every emotion. His need wasn’t just desire; it was protection, possession, love tangled with fear.

The rush of it tipped her over the edge. She clung to him as the bond tightened one final time, sealing itself with the force of both their wolves howling in unison.

David held her through it, his own release following hers, his arms locking around her like chains of flesh and bone. For long moments, neither of them moved. The world outside the war, the threats, Divine’s shadow was gone. There was only the heat, the bond, and the certainty.

When she finally caught her breath, her voice was hoarse. “That… wasn’t in Nareen’s instructions.”

His mouth curved against her temple. “Good. Means no one else gets it.”

Her wolf purred at that, satisfied. Somewhere in the deep, the magic they’d awakened still pulsed, slow and steady, like a heartbeat under their own. It wasn’t just healing anymore. It was a tether neither of them could sever.

And neither of them would ever want to.
