Chapter 42 New woman who?
Lara
The sun was already high up and I decided to check up on Ron again. He had been sleeping since the previous day. I just hoped the antidote worked. I got closer to the couch and on cue, Ron finally stirred before cracking his eyes open. He looked at me in confusion before looking around.
“How long have I been out?” He groaned sitting up.
“Almost a whole day,” I replied, pouring him a glass of water. His eyes widened in surprise. He took the glass from me and emptied it in seconds. He poured himself another full glass and finished it.
“Where’s everyone?” He asked.
“Patching things.” I went on to explain the vision and Elijah’s sudden plan of ambushing the Black Stone pack. Even though it didn’t make sense at first, after he executed it perfectly, I began to see that it was the best plan.
“The one time I’m knocked out cold, everything happens,” Ron said with a frown on his face.
“Elijah and Axel are at the shelter by the borders though. They are back now in case you want to..”
I didn’t even get to complete the sentence before he flew up from the couch. He stumbled a bit and I reached out to him.
“Take it easy,” I warned and he nodded.
“I’m fine, I’m fine. A bit dizzy but I can walk it off.” He assures me before heading out the door that I can say another word.
I carried out the glass and jug of water and dropped them in the kitchen. My mind drifted back to the news Elijah gave me about the Silver Heart Pack. He and I haven’t really seen each other since I told him about the vision and now that the Black Stone threat is over, I wondered if he was still going to go there.
Papa should have also informed me if it was now safe to return to the pack. I should contact him to ask. He would have been the first to inform me about the whole homecoming if it was safe to return. I headed back to my room and easily cast the spell. It was no longer difficult for me plus I didn’t have any doubt in me unlike the initial days when I was unsure. I waited for a while till I realized it was way past the time it took for Papa to answer. I cast the spell again and it didn’t work.
Was I doing something wrong?
I decided to contact Ma Prudy instead to know if something was wrong with the spell. She answered in seconds. The spell wasn’t wrong.
“Lara dear?” Ma Prudy called in shock. She squinted her eyes just to be sure I was the one she was looking at.
“Hey, Ma Prudy.” I greeted.
“How did you learn to do this?” She asked in surprise.
“Papa taught me so I could communicate with him,” I said and she nodded but she was still in disbelief. She didn’t know I had enough powers to cast a full spell so I couldn’t blame her for being so shocked.
“And it worked…” she mumbled.
“Ma Prudy, when was the last time you spoke with Papa or saw him?” I asked.
“Your father?” She furrowed her brows in thought before shaking her head. “I haven’t seen him and last I heard, he left the village for something important with that old priest. I did not get the full information.” She said.
Papa and the priest being out together only meant one thing. They were trying to break the bond between Elijah and me. A little relief washed over me. My life was finally going to return to normal.
“Okay, thanks,” I said ready to end the spell but she stopped me.
“How’s the boy?”
She asked and I grinned. “Oh, I healed him. Thank the moon goddess.” Her initial surprise was nothing compared to what she was feeling now. Her jaw was literally hanging open. I couldn’t wait to tell her all about it.
“How did you do it?” She asked. I was about to give her a rundown of the antidote-making process before I heard the front door open. Was it Elijah? I was ready to apologize for the harsh words I used earlier.
“Lara?” I heard Ma Prudy call but my mind was filled with jumbled apologies. I also deserved an apology even though what he said was also not nice, his were true and mine were based on what I heard when I was little. I heard footsteps approach the door and I sighed. I’ll just let my heart do the talking.
“I’ll talk to you later.” I ended the spell and walked towards my room door. Maybe if we were on good terms, I could go back to my life without any guilt. My hand was on the doorknob but before I could open it, it swung open. Staring back at me in surprise then annoyance was a drop-dead gorgeous woman. Her hair was the lightest shade of brown and her eyes were caramel in colour. With her small face and pouty lips, all the self-esteem and ego created by everyone around me when I was growing up slowly evaporated with every passing second.
The woman walked past me, almost shoving me to the side, and entered the room. She looked around my room and rolled her eyes. I began to feel irritation bubbling in me. Whoever she was, she had no right to act that way.
“What are you doing?” I finally asked and she turned to face me. She scanned me from head to toes. I refused to feel less in front of her so I folded my arms with my chin up.
She scoffed before mirroring my stance. Unlike my average-sized boobs, hers pushed out as soon as she folded her arms making me falter even more. Who was she and why was she here?
“Looks like Elijah let another stray into the house.”
What the fuck?
I hoped I didn’t hear her right but she was loud and clear. Did she just call me a stray?
