Chapter 59 He Insisted on Giving the Medal
Anna's POV:
Amid the bustling crowd, I could barely hear what was being said when I picked up the call.
"Hello?" I said into the phone.
"Anna, I won." Nick's voice, smooth and captivating, came through like a whisper.
Although there was no trace of ostentation in his voice, it naturally exuded a sense of spirited confidence.
Hearing that, my heart skipped a beat, and I suddenly didn't know how to respond. After a moment of hesitation, I said, "That's awesome, congrats."
I could hear his breathing, fluctuating between steady and uneven. The slight panting from his recent exertion seemed to make the phone feel heated in my hand, and I felt my face growing hot.
There was a long silence on both ends, with only Nick's breath, which somewhat sounded incredibly sexy when he was tired.
Not knowing how to continue the talk, I hesitated about whether to hang up.
"How about we meet up later?" I asked softly, standing amidst the crowd.
"Okay, but don't hang up." Nick's voice, with its teasing lilt, was maddeningly sexy, a perfect blend of clarity and seduction. "Because I haven't seen you yet."
His words made my heart pound even faster. The previous worry for him mingled with my current feelings, leaving my mind blank.
Suddenly, Nick's image appeared on the giant electronic screen and the podium.
As he held the trophy, the screen zoomed in on his handsome, seductive face and hand, capturing his nonchalant expression like a movie close-up.
Few had seen his face clearly before, but now it was fully displayed on the screen, causing more people to scream for him.
Someone praised, "OMG, he's so hot!"
Another said, "He's so handsome. I'm only following the racing scene!"
Before long, I heard a soft "Anna" through the phone. Just as I was about to say something, the call ended.
I turned to see Nick not far away, looking at me. I was about to greet him when Ella suddenly ran up to him.
"Nick, the brand wants a photo of us together. We haven't finished yet, so don't go." She grabbed his wrist with both hands.
Nick, however, beckoned me over and walked towards me. Under the lights, his blue eyes were even more captivating.
Nick stood in front of me, his gaze on me, and gave a slight smile.
His smile had a hint of mischief, giving him a classic bad boy look—dangerous and sexy.
He hadn't done anything, but under his gaze, I felt an inexplicable sense of shame, as if he had stripped me naked.
Just then, Mark walked up to Nick and patted his shoulder. "Great job, man. I'll spread the word about today's race. Our fame will ride on you."
Nick casually brushed off Mark's hand. "Don't be modest, Mark. If you were racing, you wouldn't need any hype."
Mark, usually so composed, suddenly stiffened before saying, "I might consider it in the past, but now... whatever, let's leave it at that."
It wasn't until Nick left with Ella that I snapped out of it.
I lowered my gaze, feeling a bit dejected. Indeed, Nick was never short of women around him. Everything he did for me was just a passing fancy. I gave a bitter smile.
After a while, a message popped up on my phone: [Anna, come to the third basement level.]
I didn't want to go, but I sighed and still headed in that direction. 'Why does he want to see me? He should be with Ella now, shouldn't he?' I thought.
When the elevator stopped, I glanced outside and saw Nick in his dark blue racing suit, watching me.
As I walked towards him, Nick playfully tugged at my wrist. The force wasn't enough to hurt but was strong enough to make me lose my balance.
Therefore, I ended up falling into his arms. My hands pressed against his chest, and I looked at him, a bit annoyed.
At that moment, we could both clearly hear each other's breathing, just like on the phone earlier.
I looked into his eyes, feeling like the air was frozen at that moment.
Suddenly, a soft female voice came from behind me. "Nick, there's something I need to discuss with you privately."
It was Ella, running over with her purse on her arm. She smiled warmly at me. "Sorry, Anna, could you wait a moment?"
Since meeting Ella, I'd never seen her so friendly towards me.
Nick was about to walk towards her but suddenly turned back to me, then came back.
Before I could react, he left something hard in my hand. I looked down to see it was the gold-plated medal.
I glanced at him, whispering angrily, "I don't want it. You must have given it to many girls and they all rejected it, right? If others don't want it, neither do I!"
Nick suddenly leaned down and whispered in my ear, "When have I ever given this to anyone else? Anna, I risked my life for this just because you wanted it. Otherwise, when have I ever taken a race seriously? Even if you don't want it, you have to keep it."
Truth to be told, when Nick got serious, his voice had an inexplicable authority.
I was stunned for a moment Nick had already let go of me and I could only hold onto the medal.
After they left, my phone rang. It was the housekeeper from the Allen Manor.
"What's the matter?" I asked her.
"Anna..." The elderly voice came through.
But the next second, it turned into a magnetic, gentle male voice. "Anna, it's me."
Hearing Isaac's voice, I felt my body stiffen. My eyes stung and grew red, on the verge of tears.
Last night, I had hoped countless times that Isaac would come to save me, straining to hear any footsteps outside the door, but by dawn, all hope had faded.
And now, this late call and his gentle voice made me feel like I was a joke.
