Chapter 58 The Peerless Gambler
Anna's POV:
I stared blankly at the screen for a while, hesitated for a moment, and then clicked the block button in the upper right corner.
I used to check Isaac's updates here, but now I felt it was better to stay away completely.
Anyway, no matter what Tina did to me, Isaac would forgive her.
"TNI is now catching up with LM's speed. Their racers are coordinating perfectly, constantly blocking and colliding to interfere with LM's racers," the commentator was explaining the live situation on the field seriously.
TNI's cars were colliding with LM's cars, tearing down a piece of their defense.
"Great! Currently, TNI has three cars that have overtaken!"
Many spectators in the audience cheered. As the home ground for Mark's team, it seemed they had quite a few fans.
"TNI is still so aggressive!"
"Go TNI!"
Jane analyzed, "It looks like it's really hard to say whether TNI or LM will win."
Susan nodded. "Yeah, this is really reckless!"
At this moment, Mark suddenly glanced at me. "Who did you bet on to win?"
I didn't expect to be called out suddenly, especially with this question.
"I bet on EGO," I answered awkwardly under their gaze, "Anyway, the stakes aren't high. I bet on the side with the lowest odds, just in case they turn the tables and I can earn several times back."
I didn't want to be associated with Nick in my best friends' eyes. Everyone knew Nick was a playboy, never short of beautiful women around him, and never let a girl stay overnight in his place.
Even though some people would take pride in having slept with Nick, I was just a stand-in for his sweetheart and couldn't feel the same sense of satisfaction from conquering a handsome guy as they did.
Mark stared at me for a few seconds, his eyes slightly probing, almost as if he wanted to see through me entirely. But the smile on his face remained gentle. "Interesting."
I avoided his gaze and looked towards the field. At this moment, Nick's team was lagging significantly.
"But it seems very difficult for EGO to turn the tables in this situation. It's hard to win back the stakes," Frank said as he walked over to Mark.
Meanwhile, TNI and LM were vying for advantageous positions, not taking Nick's team seriously.
But suddenly, Nick's car overtook from the outer lane and moved to the front.
His movements were quick, and the situation around was chaotic. It happened so fast that I didn't even see how he suddenly overtook.
"EGO's racers must have deliberately shaken their car bodies just now, feigning an accident to create an opportunity for Nick to take a risky overtake from the outside. Brilliant tactics!" the commentator shouted excitedly, instantly causing an uproar in the audience.
"It seems EGO is pretty impressive. This batch of newcomers isn't too bad," the spectators around were discussing.
Frank was analyzing the data transmitted from the scene on his laptop. "Nick's driving skills are good, but his teammates' skills are not up to par. Only he managed to get to the front. Moreover, their car speed isn't top-notch, so it will still be difficult for him later."
Jane adjusted her frameless glasses and said thoughtfully, "And he's in a very dangerous position now. Without his teammates' protection, any car around him could hit him."
Hearing that, I couldn't help but feel nervous. Indeed, at this moment, Nick's teammates were trying to catch up with him but were blocked by other teams' cars and quickly left behind.
"Go, Nick! Go!" Many girls cheered for Nick, and some boys joined in, driven by their enthusiasm.
The atmosphere in the entire venue became lively. This kind of competition was a game for the brave, and people would cheer for gamblers who left no way out.
At this moment, the competition on the field became even more brutal.
LM launched a pincer attack on TNI and Nick, using car body collisions to affect their acceleration and forced them to maneuver within the narrow track range.
Thus, the speed of TNI's three cars gradually decreased, while Nick suddenly stepped on the gas pedal and charged in one direction!
I closed my eyes tightly in fear, but the next second, I heard the explosive cheers from the audience.
"Nick has broken through the defensive gap! He floored the gas pedal the moment he found an opening, and no one dared to block him!" The commentator's voice was fast and excited, as if afraid of missing this thrilling moment.
I took a deep breath. In that moment, I really thought Nick would crash into LM's car.
"EGO! EGO!" Many people were shouting for Nick's team, their voices almost covering the entire venue.
While others were excited, Susan suddenly exclaimed, "Look, LM's route has completely changed!"
Following Susan's voice, I looked in that direction and could see from the live screen that LM's cars were not only forming obstacles in front but also gradually closing in on Nick's car from behind and the sides.
These seven cars completely controlled Nick, making it difficult for him to escape from any angle, only to be outpaced by the cars in front.
"LM is using a wolf pack tactic. I didn't expect to see such a tactic surrounding its prey in this race!" the commentator explained passionately.
"Surrounded by the wolf pack tactic, he's out of luck. There's almost no chance he'll get out!" I heard someone comment.
"It looks like this race is over." another one echoed.
"Do you think EGO has a grudge against LM?" someone teased.
Most people seemed to think Nick had no hope.
Jane leaned back in her chair. "Is Nick going to lose? It seems hard for him to compete with an established team alone, although he is quite impressive."
Frank frowned. "This tactic is quite rare. It's unnecessary to target just one car. It seems a bit like revenge."
Watching Nick's car being forced to move back and forth in a small circle, I couldn't help but feel a bit sad.
If it weren't for Nick interrupting that guy who was hitting on me, maybe he wouldn't lose so humiliatingly.
But just as they were about to go through a series of sharp turns, Nick suddenly turned inward.
The other racers were both blocking Nick and focusing on the complex turns.
Their cars also moved closer to the inside line to prevent Nick from breaking through.
However, just as they were entering the turn, Nick suddenly braked hard and then instantly switched directions to cut into the outside line!
"Wow, no way!" Some racing fans were already standing up from their seats in excitement.
After the turn, Nick immediately drifted, and several consecutive drifts left LM's cars far behind, making it impossible for them to continue blocking him.
At the last moment of the race, under the expectant eyes of the entire audience, Nick's car crossed the finish line first on the big screen!
At this moment, many people paused, including the coaches of various teams!
Just then, my phone suddenly rang.
