Chapter 57 The Life-Betting Car Race

Anna's POV:

The audience seats were almost full, with many people dressed in luxurious attire and numerous passionate racing fans.

As the big screen displayed the support rates and odds for each team at the moment, the crowd instantly became even more animated and excited.

Most people supported LM, who had just mocked Nick, while a smaller portion supported Mark's team, TNI. Only less than five percent supported Nick's team, EGO.

Someone nearby exclaimed, "It's rare to see such lopsided odds. If you bet on EGO and they win, you'd make a fortune!"

But his companion argued, "Don't be foolish. LM has won a lot of awards this year, and we also won Rookie of the Year. How could EGO possibly win?"

Another chimed in, "Yeah, these practice races have very loose rules on collisions. New teams usually end up with wrecked cars and drivers in the hospital. It's purely for the audience's entertainment!"

Looking at the boiling scene, I couldn't help but feel a bit worried.

I had heard that some major racing events allowed a certain degree of collision, but I didn't expect practice races to be even crazier. Moreover, Nick happened to offend LM just now...

"It's starting!" Jane excitedly looked towards the track.

Hearing that, I also looked in that direction and saw the originally pitch-black field quickly illuminated from near to far.

In the blink of an eye, the luxurious racing track was filled with a sense of technology, with every dark corner being forcefully occupied by daylight.

"Wow!" Seeing such a grand scene, I couldn't help but be amazed.

Mark then said to us, "This track is the longest F1 circuit in the city. To ensure races can be held at night, I had an expert design 1,600 lighting fixtures and 700 ambiance lights. But from a lady's perspective, are there any improvements needed in terms of aesthetics? What do you think?"

Susan replied, "The appearance is already perfect. The only downside is that it makes my wallet look very empty."

"I think so too," Jane chuckled.

I looked enviously at my friends, who, despite saying this, still wore expressions of confidence. Indeed, they were born into prestigious families and wouldn't be looked down upon for saying such things.

But I was different from them; even when I was struggling to make ends meet, I never dared to say such things in public for fear of facing blatant disdain from others.

But every time I saw them living happily, I would secretly feel a sense of happiness too.

At this moment, Mark suddenly looked at me and asked, "Anna, do you have any thoughts? I heard you just had a fierce argument with those LM guys. Given your sharp personality, I suggest you can consider becoming a racer."

He had a gentle smile on his face, seemingly without any derogatory intent.

I turned my head and carefully replied, "I think it's very spectacular. Maybe some spots could have a chasing light that follows the passing cars for a short distance. I'm not sure if it's suitable."

Mark listened and politely replied, "The visual effect is brilliant, but it might interfere with the racers' performance, so it's not really practical."

"I see." I nodded cautiously.

"However, it's an imaginative suggestion," Mark comforted me softly, looking very accommodating.

"Maybe it's because... I'm a design major," I replied nervously.

I originally thought I would be belittled, but I didn't expect to be praised for a useless suggestion, which made me a bit unaccustomed.

However, I knew Mark wasn't as gentle as he appeared. His club won Rookie of the Year, indicating it was a new club.

Despite being newly established, it already had a massive scale, and holding dangerous practice races was like making the racers gamble with their lives.

A boss who could do such things was likely a daredevil.

When I turned around, I sensed a gaze from not far away. It was Nick. He was waiting at the starting line, tall and upright. Even in a racing suit similar to others, he stood out with his extraordinary presence.

"So handsome!"

"Look at the captain of EGO!"

As they walked out of the tunnel, many girls in the audience exclaimed.

Quite a few people even crowded over to get a better view from this angle.

In the crowded throng, I almost waved to cheer him on but hesitated. In the end, I didn't have the courage to do so. After all, no matter where he went, he never lacked admirers.

But Nick kept looking this way, his gaze intense and focused.

I took a deep breath, looking at him in surprise, feeling like his gaze was really on me.

Across this distance, I locked eyes with him for a long time. At this moment, all the surrounding noise seemed to fade away.

The next second, he turned and walked towards the starting line.

All the racers' cars looked sleek and sharp, with every curve like a masterpiece of the wind.

The racers started their engines, and what I couldn't feel on TV, I now realized up close: the roar of the engines seemed to ignite the entire atmosphere of the race track.

Amidst the screams, the starting gun fired, and the three teams' cars shot out from the starting line like arrows.

"LM's drifting technique is still so stable. They've already taken the lead at the first turn!" the commentator excitedly narrated.

All the LM team members followed the lead car, taking the lead and starting to change formation.

Susan looked at us in surprise. "Amazing! Isn't it a foregone conclusion?"

Frank thought for a moment and then analyzed, "There are many unpredictable factors in car races, but LM's level is indeed overwhelming."

"TNI's number five racer is attempting to overtake... failed! With tight coordination, LM has formed a relatively solid barrier!" the commentator shouted, and the whole crowd's hearts were driven by the race.

I hesitantly took out my phone and opened Isaac's chat box. Since he left me to find Tina last night, he hadn't contacted me at all.

They might have been together all this time, while I went through that ordeal and was threatened with my family.

After hesitating a few times, I sent the message: [Isaac, I need to talk to you.]

[He's not here right now, Anna. How was your night?] The words on the screen popped up, making me feel a chill all over.

I replied: [What do you mean?]

After two minutes, the reply came: [Nothing, just asking.]

I bit my lip and asked: [Are you Tina?]

[Seems you're not too dumb. Don't do anything stupid in the future.] The other side, though behind a screen, clearly conveyed a sense of smugness.

At this moment, I felt like I had fallen into an ice cave. So it was Tina who had someone rape me last night.

No wonder that man entered and exited the VIP ward without obstruction.

Nick always maintained a gentle restraint when he slept with me, and Isaac, though possessive, would also hold back when being forceful.

But last night, that man seemed like he wanted to fuck me to death on the bed, with a passion that forced my body to burn along with it.

No matter how hard I tried to restrain myself, that man would still thrust to the deepest part, like a madman.
